Westin rooms available!

I just got word that the Westin has worked through its waiting list, and there are TWO king-bed rooms available for Thursday through Sunday. There are also six corner suites that are only available for Friday and Saturday nights. To reserve the king rooms, you need to call Ms. Sam Waterman at (412) 560-6365. To reserve the suites, email ceo(at)anthrocon.org with WESTIN SUITE very prominent in the subject line. Don't wait - these will probably go very quickly!

(getting out of the way now to avoid the stampede)

Commissions please?

Guh.

This is not woring. I've been asking, begging, pleading... whatever you would like to call it, for commissions so I even have a CHANCE at going to Anthrocon. So yes. I've done all that I can think of except for offer a sketchbook commission where I do something much like that shadowwolf or someone would do. The only reason I haven't tried this is because I'm unsure as to if it would work or not.

PLEASE, PEOPLE. I NEED COMMISSIONS. I'm a decent artist, I can get my art out fast and I'm offering badges for 25$ usd, and icons for 10$ usd. I'm trying to get everything together and stuff, but I CAN'T do it without you. You guys make it possible for me to be able to do things like go to cons to see and meet all of you and have fun.

Heres my website again, for Art and Prices: http://www.freewebs.com/silvrwingsdragon/index.htm

Here are a few examples of my art as well if your not wanting to look at the Dragon section in my website:
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1262940/ (Nudity!)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1281340/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1281271/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1213588/
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1108195/

::Crosses her fingers.::

Anthrocon's featured performers this year

Wondering what to do in the evenings during the convention? Anthrocon's got a whole list of folks who are eager to help you pass the time. In addition to our fine and talented DJs, we are also very pleased to welcome two fine musicians: TOM SMITH and ALEXANDER ADAMS. These gentlemen will be performing on Thursday evening in the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, and if we ask them nicely, maybe they'll give us some additional concerts, too.

More information can be found at our web site.

Trains to AC

Let it be known that I'll be taking the train, the Pennsylvanian, to AC this year. I'll be leaving from Philly on Thursday and returning on Monday.
So, if you're on the train look me up. :=3

On the note on train travel, let me remind everyfur, as I ran into this with a fellow fur on the way back 2 years ago, it is mandatory that you wear footwear when passing through the train.
This is for your safety, as you can get your foot caught when passing between cars, and who knows what has been dropped, spilled, etc. on the various floors. So do not put me, or the train crew, in the position of reminding you of that policy. I may be "off duty", but I still have the responsibility to enforce the rules, or tell the conductors of any unusual occurences. This is the reason I have to have my Amtrak ID visible at all times when travelling by train. I cannot hide my ID, as Amtrak rules require me to have it visible when travelling. That is one of the restrictions imposed upon me when travelling on my pass.

Also please remember that the Conductor is the boss of the train. Arguing with him is like arguing with the captain of an airliner and both are felonies. Plus the Conductor has the option of calling the police at any time and have them meet the train at the next station, if not holding the train where it is.

So while I hope you do take the train, please read the "Rules of Conduct" that are in the public schedule and on your ticket packet. It will make your trip much more enjoyable.

Some help out please?

I know I'm taking a big leap of faith here, but last year my dunce headed butt dropped my sketchbook off with an artist to have them draw for me in the dealer's room. I've had no luck tracking the laptop down. I'm currently offering a $100.00 reward for the return of the book. I'll be at anthrocon this year and will be in the super sponsor lounge again.

The book is a large 11"x14" black sketchbook, it has sketches in it from chris goodwin, mr glenn, werepuppy, blackrabbit, bucky, krahnos and several others. The whole book revolves around my wolf character and a black horse plush, there is a list of jokes/rules written on the inside cover, but not sure if I had supplied a recent address at the time, or what email was in the book. The book means alot to me, and I'd really love to get it back.

Also, curious if anyone would be willing to give me a ride to anthrocon, if you're heading by car, i'm fairly close to the turnpike and would be willing to toss money to help out with gas and such, I'll give more info on dates when I can get a more definite answer.

Anthrocon needs volunteers! Specifically the Audio Video department is looking for 1 or 2 dedicated individuals who would like to lend a hand in the operation of the largest Anthropomorphics convention in the world!

The Audio and Video department spends most of its time working in the Spirit of Pittsburgh Ballroom, overseeing the events there and operating all of our lighting and sound equipment. We also handle A/V needs in panel rooms. No experience is necessary! The most important skill you can bring to this position is dedication!

If you think this sounds interesting to you, send me an email! My address is smblion at anthrocon dot org and I'm happy to answer any questions you have about this!

[Off-Topic] LJ Advisory Elections Nomination - tango

Good morning everyone! Or afternoon, whatever the case may be. Please pardon my cross-posting, but this announcement needs to be made. I'm posting here because Tango is a familiar face to many people at AC, and some may not have heard that he's in the running for this yet.

As many of you are aware, LJ is currently holding nominations to appoint a community member to their advisory board. There are a lot of users who are nominated for this, but one in particular stands out for me - tango. I've never met him outside of LJ, but he's a really great guy, with the experience necessary to be perfect for this. He's been an LJ volunteer for nearly two years, and has already made countless contributions to the LiveJournal software and community. For example, whenever I've commented on the LJ software in my journal in the past, he's always been there with a helpful solution/suggestion. He also has many years of customer/tech support experience with various agencies, giving him the skills necessary to identify and communicate the needs/desires/concerns of the community at large to LJ's management.

To show your support for Tango, all you have to do is visit this thread, and leave a comment that says "I support this nomination". Make sure your comment says that pretty much verbatim, it sounds like they're using an automated system to aggregate the votes. Only vote once in his thread.

If you have any questions for Tango, please direct them to this thread in his own LJ.

EDIT: We did it! Thanks everyone!

Read More And Vote In The Nomination Thread
Discuss in Tango's LJ

Commissions Open

Hey guys.

Lifes been good, except than I don't have any money. So, I'm going to do something about it, or try. Commissions are still open and I'm willing to draw anything that'll get me money. Heres the regular website where you can see what my prices and stuff are: http://www.freewebs.com/silvrwingsdragon/index.htm , but if your feeling lazy, just scroll down.

Alrighty, then. Here's your List. :)

*****

Well, I start off most of my prices at about $10.00 to a sketch.
A multi character sketch can go from $15.00 to $20.00, depending on the amount of detail. This means no color, no ink, and no background, unless I sketch that in for fun.

Inking, single character. Inking can be from $25.00 to $30.00. This depends on the amount of detail.
Multi character inkings are $35.00 to $40.00.

Colored character, single, (with inking) is $45.00.
Multi character color (with inking) is $50.00.

Colored character with a partial background is also $55.00 to $58.00. A 'full' background is closer to $65.00 or $70.00. This would include depth and detail for the $65.00. The 55.00 is also in depth. The $65.00 to $70.00 is the difference between seeing the leaves inked, or leaving the leaves to the imagination without inking them in with detailed inks.

Colored characters with a full or partial background. The details remain the same, except for the price. The price will vary between $75.00 to $85.00. This will depend on how many characters you want in the image, of course.

<************>
Another thing, because Anthrocon is getting so close, I'm open for Badge Commissions, and Icon Commissions. :) Badge commissions are up for grabs for $25, while Icons are 10.00$ each. :)

Please feel free to AIM me at SilvrWingsDragon. Or E-mail me at: SilvrWingsDragon@aol.com . Please put ART in the subject line, so that I know what its about. Or you can just comment here. :D

The lowest levels of the hotel, easily accessible by stair from the 3rd floor ("Zoo level"), are reserved for fursuiters, but space is limited! Order now!

Blue Furs Need Room Badly! (Insert Quarters for Additional Health)

Hey all,

So our roommate who had reserved our room at the Westin (Takala the Zeeb for those few who don't know him) had to back out of AC kinda last minute this year, leave a few of us roomless. Here's where the begging starts...

Does anyone out there have space for three clean, considerate, drama and drug-free furs (2 Female, 1 Male)? Pretty please? We'll take whatever floor space is available and of course will be able to throw you some money on the room, as well as generally brightening up the place with our awesomeness. We'd really be loathe to have to split up into separate rooms and would prefer a spot in the Westin if at all possible, though the overflow hotels are acceptable, so long as they're not too far of a hike away.

Rack up some good karma today by helping us out!

Leave a comment with contact info here, hit me up on AIM or Yahoo @ Ramensnax or email ramensnax[AT]yahoo[DOT]com with any questions and/or details...

Question on costs

I live in Michigan (Near the detroit area) and I was wondering if you guys think it will be affordable to go (by car) to AC in 2010. Mostly I ask cause of gas prices, and I would like a general idea of what you guys think. =P

Baggage space available for roadtrip to Anthrocon (x-posted)

I leave Denver for a summerlong trip to Pittsburgh the first week of June, driving the I-80 route. I'm taking my time getting there and expect to arrive at my destination a week before Anthrocon. I am staying in the hotel for the duration of the convention.

In light of the recent rate increases from airlines in regards to baggage, I am offering to take excess baggage with me that would otherwise incur extra shipping or airline charges. This can include fursuits, art, materials, etc. I can bring it to the hotel the day you arrive.

Since I am staying in Pittsburgh after AC, the only caveat is you'll need to find a way to get it back; but at the very least it'll save you a few bucks in shipping and extra luggage charges.

Any furs along the way that expect to fly or bus it are welcome to throw their luggage into my camper. I expect to hit Chicago, Milwaukee, Ft. Wayne, Des Moines, and Omaha, not necessarily in that order.

Drop me a line at thrashbear@yahoo.com if you're interested and to make arrangements.

Thrashbear
Everyone's favorite heavy metal teddy bear

Attention furry felines

Someone suggested that I do a feline related panel at anthrocon. Would anyone be interested in helping out or helping me decide what I should do for the panel? I was thinking maybe just a meet and greet since it would be my first panel and simple enough to handle as such. I would really like to do a panel and get my feet wet. Anywho I would appreciate any input and suggestions so fire away.

-Landis

Anthrocon Programming - Quick Update

<cross posted from the Anthrocon forums>

Hi everyone!

Anthrocon programming is shaping up quite nicely this year. We have some really interesting and innovative panels being done this year. In the fandom track, we have something new: The Husky Meet and Greet. That's right, some dedicated husky fans are putting together a panel to meet, talk about, and generally celebrate huskies and husky characters. Like last year, we also have a fun "Foxes Abound" panel. Several other panels about other animal and regional species are in the works. In our Science and technology track, we now have scheduled a panel for the "RoboFurs". These are robot entusiasts who have anthropomorphic robots as toys and virtual pets. This is a first for us, and we're very happy to add this wonderful new panel to our lineup.

The question several people asked me recently was: "Why don't you have a panel about "X animals"? (where X could be mustelids, scalies, felines, hoofers, etc.) The simple answer to this question is, because nobody has yet volunteered to do one. You see, Anthrocon doesn't actually create these panels and SIGs. These are done by members of the fandom who wish to share their knowledge and enthusiasm with others.

Sooooo....do you have an interest in seeing a panel on some specific species or animal topic? If so, would you be interested in being an Anthrocon panelist? If yes, please don't hesitate to drop a message to: programming-2008@anthrocon.org to request a panel form. I'd be very happy to discuss your request and if appropraite, schedule a panel or SIG for you.

This year's Anthrocon is really growing into something special and I believe that everyone will find programming that will keep them interested and entertained throughout the weekend. If you'd like to be a part of that programming, don't be shy! Be sure to drop me a line soon...as the convention schedule is quickly being constructed and I'd like for everyone who wants to contribute to have that opportunity.

KP
Anthrocon Programming Director
