An offer of rooms at the Doubletree Pittsburgh Hotel
Anthrocon needs your input!

I've gotten a very generous offer from the Doubletree in Pittsburgh, which is just as close (and in fact a few steps closer) to the Westin than the Omni: $119 for up to 4 people, $169 for a two-room suite (king or queen bed in one room, and a living room with a fold-out bed attached to it). The trick is that it would require a one-night deposit up front (non-refundable if canceled) when the reservation is made; that would be applied to your stay when you check out. We would need to guarantee them a minimum of 20 rooms, and we need to have some idea if there's enough demand. That's where you come in! If you do not yet have a room, please let us know if you would go for this deal.

The Doubletree has a 7-11 convenience store right in the lobby (and it is really open 7-11!). They have complimentary wireless in all rooms and in all public areas, an indoor pool with saunas, and -- for those who don't like to walk -- a complimentary shuttle to the convention center that will spare you the 6-8 minute walk if you are footsore at the end of the day. If you already have made a reservation at the Doubletree, a simple phone call would be all it would take to move your reservation into Anthrocon's new block and get the less expensive rate.

So now the big question:

Poll #1142771 Doubletree as our second overflow hotel
Open to: All, detailed results viewable to: All

If you do not have a room at the Westin or Omni, would you be willing to take the Doubletree up on this offer, and pay the one-night deposit (non-refundable if canceled) up front?

Yes, oh yes!

No thanks, I'll take my chances and see if something opens at the Westin or Omni

We thank you for helping us to make Anthrocon as accessible to our attendees as it is fun to attend!

Well, the poll is up for 2 hours and already we have 19 YES. Don't stop! If we need MORE than 20 rooms, I'll make sure they're blocked for us.

Would we still be ok if we waited until the new price is guaranteed and then book? That would be bad if suddenly a huge rush of people swooped in at the last second after this was confirmed and all the rooms were taken! Thanks again though for doing this for us Uncle Kage! You rock :3

Oh, definitely wait until we have the contract in place! I expect to have it ready on Monday. It will probably take a few days for them to get it into their system. Hopefully they will be able to make a web page for us to make our reservations, the way the Westin and Omni have.

Awesome! That's a relief to know. Also, will the age limit stay the same for getting the hotel there (18, as for the Westin and Omni)?

I will try to get that written into the contract as well. Should not be a challenge.

I've posted this data off to the Dorsai Irregulars Anthroncon Staff mailing list. There are usually half a dozen staffers who get their own rooms, and I know a few had not yet reserved them.

Hrrrrm....Would you be rooming with [info]strredwolf?

That would skew my results. Something I didn't take into account: Folks who respond may well be planning to share with other folks who respond. I've got 32 "yes" votes right now, but that might only represent 8 rooms.

Yes, but it'll be for a number of nights, so if you do room nights, you're probably still okay. (sorry about skewing it then)

I feel it's a good deal. Especially that they provide a free shuttle which is a nice. If I didn't book a room at the Westin before the block was sold out I'd settle for the Double Tree. The 7-ll is a good selling point.

It sounds good but I'd have to see if I can get three other people.

I think two people with fursuits will fill a room pretty well, myself.

I voted yes, I didn't realize that the hotels would fill up so fast, but it's hardly another block, and I'd be willing to pay a non-reundable deposit in advance. I have no plans to cancel.

What is the physical address of this hotel? Or just how far away is it in terms of miles?

Oh thank goodness there's still hope! I thought I was going to have to pay $200 a night for sure after the Omni booked full. How likely is it that the Doubletree will get booked full in a couple days?
