I think of this pretty much every time I draw K's collar.

Page 4 is now up. Once again, I'm sorry for the loooong wait in between pages, I know I warned that things weren't exactly going to be steady this summer, but I was hoping they'd be a little bit more consistent than this. I'm going to work at making that better.

I've been noticing the length of these, so I am putting my rambling beneath a cut. )

So that's all I have today, the page- and like I said, I'm going to try to do better, but I'm already in the midst of attempting a few things that are stretching me thin. They are not the reason this update was so late, as they've started more recently, but I'm hoping having more to do will focus me rather than put more three week gaps in between updates in the future. If that ends up happening, I'll drop something, I promise.

Enjoy the page- I'm sure it wasn't worth the wait, but thank you guys for reading and not forgetting about Antagonist with this sporadic schedule. Not that you can, what with it crowding your friends lists. ;)

Page 03 is up- a week late, I know, I've been balancing things and drawing another project and blah blah blah excuses excuses. I did happen to actually write out some stuff for the Info page, FINALLY, although I'm not sure any of it at this point is information you guys don't know or are particularly interested in finding out. But it is up there. You might notice some jazzy stuff if you have javascript enabled, I'm working on not having the sections be such an utter mess- the Info page I always imagined being in distinct sections, which is partially why it was not up until I found a good way to do that. The Extras page got Accordion treatment too, because that thing has so many sections and goes on forever. Still debating whether or not to use this script in the gallery.

That's about it, I think. Reminders, briefly, about the Memes. I seem to have deleted the Magnificent Corpse Comic from the Extras section, though I don't remember doing this on purpose in the course of my setting up the script-- maybe it's all for the better, but if anyone wants to pick it up I will more than gladly put it back up there.

Also, anyone not taken this poll yet? Once I figure out why the poll script isn't working for me, or I find a better one, there should be more questions going up.

As always, updates will attempt for Sunday, keep an eye out and have a nice week! =)

ETA: Oh. The MC Comic is on the Archive Page. And it is still there!

(Disclaimer: Gestert is not in this update.)

Oh my it's been a while, hasn't it? No, I know- believe me, I know. I did my best to make this a larger sort of update, unfortunately most of, imo, the best stuff is still half-finished on my computer, so hopefully someday you'll get to see that. There's a lot of old things up, though!

Actually, it will probably be easier if I just list off what we have:
  • Pages One and Two of Chapter 3!

  • Not one, but TWO completed memes!

  • Lots of new (old) things in the Gallery!

  • One poll having to do with selling you guys stuff. Please take it!

And now that that's out of the way, to talk about some items. First and foremost, the last on our unordered list. I don't feel comfortable asking people to buy things, much less things that I make, which is something I'm really going to have to get over at this point in my life. So, you're going to suffer through me asking you to take a few polls for a while while I try to figure out what y'all want. I'm trying to keep ads off the site- though I've been thinking if it comes to it I might add some non-invasive ones down where the mostly defunct voting buttons are on the main page. The other option, is, of course, selling things. So please go vote, and if at this point there's any sort of thing you'd like to see in a future Antagonist store, let me know. Also, this polling script is kind of crap, so if anyone knows a good free one that allows for comments, let me know that too!

Going up the list- like I said before, there's a half-finished animation from like a year ago and this picture that has poster potential that I'm working on, and then there's a lot of spoilerific stuff I don't know why I ever start on except to indulge myself. I'm glad I got to finishing the K and Hench in Highschool one, and pointing that one out I'd like to say it's probably not a good idea to think of anything in the gallery as canon.

Yay for Digi and Perrin doing the memes! Those are obviously still up for your enjoyment, do them and send them in as you please! In addition, the Magnificent Corpse Comic will remain a two-page failure up on the archive page until someone musters up the urge to continue it or until I decide to scrub the shame off my website, haha.

Not much to say about the pages, I am pretty happy with how the second one came out. I am having a lot of trouble right now dealing with Hench's "storyline" as I have set it up for this episode. I feel like it's all a little avilicious and uncomfortably shallow in a very pop-feminine way- which isn't what I want. But then sometimes I look at it and I think how interesting it is that I've tried to put her in an work outfit that would be pushing work-appropriateness and it doesn't look that bad. I'm not sure if this is because I am a prude and am afraid to go further, or if it's because we see that sort of "work appropriate" outfit in the media all the time. So maybe it's not anvilicious, hm? Also, welcome Margo! I have some fun ideas for her, it will be interesting to see whether they work into the story or whether I'll have to keep her role to a minimum in order to concentrate on our main characters and not have this comic move at a snails pace.

Finally, I will try to update weekly, so keep checking your el-jays around sunday/mondayish. You would think being out of school would solve problems, but as I enter the workforce etc etc my life is in sort of a state of flux- I hope you understand. Ah, life. Anyway, it's good to be back! Enjoy the update!

09 March 2009 @ 01:39 am
So you may have noticed that the site had gone conspicuously quiet. Yeah. There haven't been any updates for like, a month, and this isn't really acceptable in any way shape or form. I missed the birthday spiel, and I can only imagine how going from two comics a week to silence was rather disappointing. I should have posted something much earlier, and I'm sorry for everyone who's come checking for updates and has been continuously let down.

Here is the basic situation: I am in my last semester at college, and have to create a 12-piece portfolio for graduation. Beyond that, I have been collaborating on a project with someone that has been slow-moving and should be getting second priority at this point. Also, I've been having pains in my wrists and I'm avoiding doing anything excessive until I know what is going on with them.

This isn't to say that I will not be producing anything Antagonist-related during this period, but I do not feel it is in my best interest to be fighting to keep up with updates right now. So Antagonist, unfortunately, will be on hiatus- probably until late April or early May.

That's a really long time to be gone, three months, and I've been weighing what I can do to not completely go off the map. I've spent weeks wracking my brain for some sort of way to keep content coming to the site during a time where I can't really commit much time to creating it. I understand that asking for you guys to step in for me uninspired to create content for each other is at the very least desperate and at most presumptuous. So I've decided to work my butt off today to meet you halfway.

I have orchestrated a few things that I hope you might enjoy participating in. The Hero's Face thing got a lot bigger response than I initially anticipated, and though I don't have high hopes for these, I thought at least I'd try.

In This corner we have two memes in the style of the memes going around on deviantart. Read that post for more information.

In This corner, we have something I'm really excited for in the sense that if it does garner interest, it would be really cool: A Magnificent Corpse Comic to Celebrate the Temporary Deadness of Antagonist. It's kind of like that game where one person says a sentence, then the next person says the next sentence, and eventually you have a very odd story. But if you want a more in-depth explanation, proceed to the livejournal post.

I hope something sparks your interest, and I hope you can forgive me for taking this time off. If I can somehow miraculously get ahead of things for once, I might even return at the end of this with some real, physical goodies. In the mean time, I hope at least some of you find some entertainment in creating and sharing these works. The site and this journal will begin again to update weekly (on Monday, for now) with any content that comes in during the week!

Since I have been unable to update and anticipate being unable to update for a couple more months, I have been wracking my brain for some sort of way to keep content coming to the site over this period of time. My situation involves be being too busy with higher priority things to create content, but asking for you guys to step in for me uninspired is at the very least desperate and at most presumptuous. So I'm trying to meet you halfway.

I have orchestrated a few things that I hope you might enjoy participating in. This is the second thing, a pair of memes being the first. This one's a little more complicated, but potentially a lot of fun. It's like one of those Magnificent Corpse drawings, or those stories where each person contributes a sequential sentence. I've posted two sloppy pages on the website, and its up to all of you to take it from there.

A DAY AT THE FVA- MAGNIFICENT CORPSE COMIC

Now that K has taken up residence at the FVA, his life is slowly falling into a more stable routine. At least, as stable as one can get in a building full of recovering criminals, mad scientists, evil masterminds, and superstrong thugs.

It is up to you to decide just how crazy or how boringly normal K's day becomes. You will have one week to contribute your portion of the story before the duty is passed on to someone else. You can draw as much as you want, multiple pages even, but don't be too ambitious! You can also contribute as little as a single panel. It is up to you.

In more official terms:

1. Make a comment in this livejournal thread declaring your intention to go next. If you don't have a livejournal account, include your name so as to identify you when it is your turn. The order of turns will go in order of comments posted.

1a. If you do not have a livejournal account and would like to receive notice of your turn, accompany your comment with an email to kristencella[AT]swimtrunkstudio.com, with Magnificent Corpse in the subject and the name that you posted on the thread in the content of the email. You may instead just put your email in your comment, if you do so desire.

2. You will have 1 (one) week from the last comic posted to submit your turn. If a week passes and you have not submitted anything, it will be the next person's turn.

2a. If you anticipate being unable to submit anything when your turn comes around, please notify me through email or by posting in the comment thread so that the next person may have their turn that week.

2b. If for some reason you have to forfeit your turn or you were unable to turn out a submission during your turn but you would still like to participate, you must comment again to be put back into rotation.

2c. If your week is up and no one else is in line after you, you may have an extra week to submit. If you are done and do not plan submitting anything more, submit what you have, and either I will jump in or the comic will be stalled until someone else declares their turn.
3. Submissions may be as short as one panel or as long as is feasible for you. Don't get too ambitious, though you can always submit what you have at the end of the week, even if it isn't as much as you had intended.

4. Submissions may be in any style you like. Though a visual element is preferred, if you wish to submit text, you may do so. Feel free to get creative!

5. Submissions are due by midnight CST (-5 GMT) on Sunday. Submissions will be put up on the site HERE on Monday.

5a. Well, you probably have a few more hours than that- I'll look for it when I get up on Monday. But the closer to then the better.

6. To send in your submission, either reply to your own comment in this livejournal thread, or send your submission with Magnificent Corpse in the subject to kristencella[AT]swimtrunkstudio.com</div>

7. At risk of sounding like my mother, make sure you put your name on it! Or some other kind of credit line or signature.

To check it out from the beginning, start here.

That's it, so if anyone feels like making a go for next Monday, comment below!

While I would much prefer you reply in pictures, if writing is your thing, go ahead and do that. If you post your finished meme here or email it to me, I'll put it up on the site in the fashion of the Hero's Face Template. Also, if you give me the okay on your OC Meme, I will try to squeeze in a background cameo when the comic starts back up!

26 January 2009 @ 05:22 pm
Page 49 and 50 are now up, and that concludes Chapter 2. Which was a really really long chapter- I don't foresee the rest of the chapters reaching that length, but you never know. I suppose it all depends on how good I get at pacing.

I got MORE hero faces, and let me tell you they do not stop entertaining. The template's still up there for anyone tempted to give it a shot, even though the canon face has become quite clear in recent pages... >_>

Also, we got two new link exchanges: Lovefeast is for mature readers only while Millennium, though being redrawn as I understand it, seems quite acceptable and enjoyable for your general audiences.

As always, I will shoot for updating again next Sunday.

18 January 2009 @ 03:28 pm
Okay, so today, I have for you Page 47 and Page 48, the latter of which marks THE ONE HUNDREDTH PAGE OF ANTAGONIST! (insert vocal imitation of a crowd here). Only took me... nearly four years? I'd take more time to reflect on it, but Antagonist is turning four- right? It's four. I keep thinking five. Why do I keep thinking five. Anyway, I am like 99.9% sure it's four, so that means it will be Antagonist's golden birthday. Will I have time to do anything celebratory by then? Well, I guess we'll see.

Also, some people were really awesome and submitted some Hero faces. Two of them were posted in the comments on the last entry (Thank you Digi!) and the FOUR that you haven't seen you can find on the Extras page! I know you guys have kind of seen his face in a page on the last update, and you're probably going to get a much closer look at it in the next update or so, but if you guys want to keep having fun with this, I am not going to stop you! I am enjoying this immensely, I hope you are too.

Also: I have begun going back and fixing up early pages for print, trying to redraw as little as possible but also getting them a little more clean and professional looking. Haha, and ohhh do I have stories for you. Or reflections. But I'm saving those, because it seems like they'd be great for a birthday post.

So, that's it for now, see you all next Sunday!

04 January 2009 @ 07:44 pm
(EDIT: Links fixed. This is the second time in a row I've misspelled the name of my own site on this journal. wtf. )

Well, seeing as I missed last week, not really, but let's pretend, okay? Page 45 and Page 46 are now up. And I am actually pretty satisfied with the art on these, which is more than I can say about the last few Hench pages. Oh well, what is a webcomic for if not inconsistency?

Also, we have a new link exchange with Morgens. It's definitely for mature readers and has some NSFW pages, but if you are in the appropriate setting and of the appropriate age, go check it out!

And some crazy kid actually took me up on the Hero Face-Drawing! )

I lol'd. If you have your own ideas for our currently faceless hero, I guide you to this post where you can pick up a little template. You can also grab it on the Extras page at the website.

I'm going to be moving back out to school next Sunday (yikes break went by fast this year!), so don't be too surprised if the next page will be late. I would like to hit my hundredth page and probably the end of the chapter in two weeks though, so I am going to try to stay on schedule.

OH. And since we are nearing the end of the chapter, I talked about putting these three chapters in print. I have looked into this, and even Lulu is making my head spin a bit. Anyone have any advice out there?

Well, I'm feeling accomplished. Page 44 (EDIT: Link fixed. Anatagonist. haha.) is up, and K is back! I am actually pretty happy with this page, even if the smashed truck front was super tedious. The only thing I really regret is not remembering the traditional way to do TV!wordballoons, and being to lazy to go find a reference. I think just regular ones work okay though.

Also, fret not frustrated readers, you WILL see the face of the Hero before this chapter ends. That is a promise. I'm sick of holding back art because you guys can't know what he looks like yet. = / Not that it's going to be a big reveal anyway, but.

In fact, if anyone wants to amuse themselves in order to cope in the meantime... )

14 December 2008 @ 07:52 pm

We missed you. We would much rather have been feeding your appetite for metahumor and villainy than working on essays and conceptual art finals etcetera etcetera. Unfortunately, we would also like to survive our last school year.

Okay, identifying myself as a collective rather than an individual is falling apart and sounding creepier by the minute, so we'll cut to the chase.

Page 43 is FINALLY up, and it is SHINY. And yes, I think you will now be able to see that the sketch from the last post was not a bleeding head but Hench's hairline. There were a lot of things I was not happy about with this page, but I think it pulls itself off well on a whole.

ALSO. Because I am a not-updating bum, I missed the opportunity to point you to a cameo as it was happening. Alas,No Crap!, a pretty (cool) webcomic worth a look, has updated twice since then (Ack! Making me look bad), but you can catch K's cameo in the background here. Jessie is pretty awesome, and I thoroughly enjoyed this. You should go over and enjoy it too. And the rest of her webcomic whilst we are at it.

I fully anticipate that page 44 will go up on time next Sunday. I have no school for the next four weeks or so, in which time I will be working on Antagonist as well as another comic project I am currently in progress with, and apparently picking up a lot of shifts for my paying job. Might be a little hectic, but I really really really do want to get Antagonist back on track. My goal is to hit the end of chapter 2, or 100 pages- whichever comes second, by February 4th, Antagonist's birthday. GOLDEN birthday even, yikes!

See you guys next week!

16 November 2008 @ 02:32 am

What person in their RIGHT MIND leaves a file open on their computer ALL WEEK WITHOUT SAVING IT?!?!?!

The bad news: I am an idiot, and a full page of lineart, essentially, was reduced to a sketch early this evening.

The good news: Recovery seems not just quicker, but of better quality.

The bad news: I still might have to skip this week if I don't finish it quick enough. I have a lot of homework to get to. But I'll try.

On a tangent, does anyone have any music that reminds them in any way of Antagonist? Not only am I craving new music, but I severely lack mood/inspiration music for drawing the comic.

02 November 2008 @ 03:20 pm
Page 42 is up after a long wait without a ton of substance. And I'm sorry for that )X Midterm-season kind of threw me for a loop, but hopefully I'll be able to squeeze in like, three updates or so before stuff starts piling up for finals.

I just realized that half of Hench's appearances have been around or in an elevator. SYMBOLIC? probably not. I should really have figured out how to do moving elevator doors by now though. blergh.

Page 41! Sorry for the wait. I've just realized: We've been on this chapter for over a year. :| I really need to get my butt moving. Two more pages of Hench, I think, and then we're on to K's final bit. The chapter should probably end at the latest in December.

Page 40 at your service.

Bdhaidfhdizkhjdkfdsaghoicx;zjdosa. I'm really frustrated that I'm not getting these pages out faster, especially since this is supposed to be the quick easy bit between K's stuff. There's a lot of stuff I'm not happy with about this page, which is unfortunate.

We're still aiming for weekly, but you guys will see when I update either way, I suppose. Have a good week, I will hopefully be showing up in your friends pages again next Sunday!

Page 38!

Hey! We're back! Yay! Did you miss us? We missed you. We really did. I'm not sure what this plural is referring to. Anyway. Sorry about dropping off the face of the earth for a month, I'm not entirely sure what happened, but I think it was in part due to transitioning back to school, and in part that I just needed to rejuvenate. I didn't want to make any promises and run the risk that I might not follow them up- so I thought I'd just stay quiet this time around. Which worked, because I thought I could finish this page for like, three weeks running now, and only THIS week have I been able to do it.

If you've looked at it already, it's doesn't look like a very difficult page. It wouldn't have been really, if this is exactly what i had planned for this page in the first place- it's not. I dropped a panel and had to play with the dialogue a lot, retool the angle of the first panel, which meant redrawing everything in it- and I'm still not happy with the page. But I think it's a lot better than it was going to be, so. Cool.

Also: I am so sick of the city backgrounds. 8D Looking forward to about 5 pages of Elevator interior!

I'm going to try and resume the Sunday schedule. We'll see how it goes. You smart kids don't have to worry about that too much though, what with the community on your flist. Good work! Cross your fingers and look for another update next Sunday!

10 August 2008 @ 05:32 pm
Page 37!

WHEW. This page took me a while, obviously. I think it was part being rusty, part having important and somewhat extensive backgrounds, and part rewriting this part of the script like FIFTEEN BAZILLION TIMES. Haha, seriously. This whole chase scene has seen writing and rewriting and rewriting. At one point there was a red string involved. At another point K ran into Hench, who was shopping. But those were both dropped somewhat quickly. The end of this scene just needed editing. Partially because of tone, though the way I ended up handling things before, and the way I ended up wanting to handle things after made it necessary to rewrite. And now it is written, and hopefully I can put writing aside until the end of this chapter. It's much nicer to just be able to do one side of the job for a while without worrying about making adjustments on the other.

ALSO: There will be an animation put up in the future if I can ever get off my butt and bring myself to finish it. @_@ Should be fun, if a little behind on the internet times.

PS! Thank you all for assuring me that we are all mature enough to deal with K mercilessly throwing a baby to its death. I know there will be some disappointment with today's page in that respect, but- well, it was only meant as a distraction. I tried to get back to most of you- if I didn't, I'm sorry. Anyway. That's actually it, so. Enjoy the page, and if all goes well (which it should) Updating sunday next week- though perhaps later sunday- should not be a problem.

Page 36 is finally here. I can't apologize enough, IMO, but I figure this kind of talk gets a little annoying after a while- so I'm just going to say Sorry it's late, and leave it at that.

This page was hard to get out for a number of reasons, and I think one of the biggest ones was my concern with how people would take this little turn of events. As my confidence varies from day to day, so changes my perception of how big of an offense people may take to this. Today, I am thinking not so much. But there were times I was genuinely worried. I think people think K is a lot better person than he actually is, and that he is much less competent than he actually is. Realizing this has also made me rethink my approach to the next two pages.

Anyway, even though I'm less concerned today, I'm still going to encourage anyone who has some misgivings about where this seems to be headed- and everyone else, really- to give me some feedback. Given that I am going out of town this week I may not get back to you right away, but I am more than happy to address concerns etc.

Oh, also. I have GOT to stop spending valuable page-drawing time drawing artwork with characters in it that haven't even been fully introduced yet. )X UHG. I hope I remember this one when I can finally put it up. It's pretty.

Sorry guys, I obviously DID jinx myself-- as you can tell, I missed Sunday's update.

Page 36 will go up next Sunday. Whilst I would love to try for a two page update, the truth is, I'm taking a trip next week and will probably need that second page to put up the week after when I return.

Again, I apologize. My updating over the past month or so has been terribly inconsistent, and you have no idea the extent to which this bothers me. I realize the one-page-a-week schedule keeps Antagonist fairly slowly paced, and missing weeks obviously only aggravates the problem. I was really hoping to be closer to the end of the chapter at this point. Hopefully, I'll be able to get back on track once I get back from my trip.
