 | 12:57 pm Another update less than a month after the last one? What is this madness?!
I'm doing NaNoWriMo in November, so I probably won't be updating at all next month (though I seem to remember I did last year anyway, so who knows). And I thought it wasn't fair to you guys to make you wait over a month again, so I decided to use part of my last day of freedom to make this post.
Requests
Song: Flower Psychedelic (Otani Yuri ver) Game/Anime/etc.: Alien Nine Type: 3rd OP Artist: Ibata Juri Comments: Cutesy catchy pop song. It's not particularly amazing, but it will get stuck in your head. Download!
Song: Futari Dake no Ongakukai Game/Anime/etc.: Da Capo Four Seasons Type: Spring theme Artist: Horie Yui Comments: Cute, laid-back pop song. It's not unpleasant to listen to, but not very memorable either. Download!
Song: Ganbare Game/Anime/etc.: Mugen no Ryvius Type: Artist: Seki Tomokazu Comments: I'm sort of tired and braindead and I don't know what to say about this song. It's... sort of relaxed and folky and catchy. Yes. Download!
Song: No Brand Heroes Game/Anime/etc.: Koko wa Greenwood Type: Artist: Sakamoto Chika Comments: Cheesy 90's anime pop. It's not bad, but not great. Download!
Song: Pasera Game/Anime/etc.: Nurse Witch Komugi Type: Artist: Ootani Ikue Comments: Still more cutesy pop. Download!
Song: Reverse Game/Anime/etc.: Nurse Witch Komugi Type: Kyosuke song Artist: Saiga Mitsuki Comments: Rockish with a bit of techno distortion. Saiga Mitsuki is great, as always. Download!
Song: Tsubasajin Densetsu ~Tori no Uta~ Game/Anime/etc.: AIR (the movie) Type: BGM Artist: Suo Yoshikazu Comments: I've never seen the movie version of AIR, so I've no idea when this plays. Anyway, this is an instrumental version of the game's (and anime's) opening theme, Tori no Uta. It starts out sort of... weird, for lack of a better word (what is that instrument?), but soon goes into a sweeping, rather epic-sounding rendition of the song, with violins as the main instrument. Later on, what sounds like a drum machine kicks in (which is a bit incongruous, if you ask me, but it's not too bad). Then, at around three minutes, it sounds like the song is about to end, but instead it starts up again -- slower, without the drums, and with something of a foreboding sound. Overall, while not my favorite BGM track in the history of ever, it's pretty solid. And hey, it's Tori no Uta. You can't go wrong with that. Download!
Song: Why! The Zona's Song Game/Anime/etc.: N/A Type: J-pop Artist: Morikubo Shoutarou Comments: Morikubo Shoutarou does almost as much talking as he does singing in this track. The actual song parts are rockish and sort of cheesy, and the lyrics are kind of weird -- all about the singer being "the mysterious person Zona". Download!
My Picks
Song: Kimi to Yozora to Sakamichi to Game/Anime/etc.: Myself; Yourself Type: ED Artist: Itou Kanako Comments: I had high hopes for Myself; Yourself after hearing that it was written by the scenario writer for Ever17, which is one of my favorite visual novels. However, it turned out to be a disappointingly cliché harem show -- the plot is unoriginal and the characters so cookie-cutter I couldn't make myself care about them at all. However, the time I spent watching the first four episodes wasn't a total waste, because the opening and ending themes are awesome. I particularly like this one, an upbeat pop-rock song featuring Itou Kanako's powerful vocals. Much like the show itself, it's nothing new or ground-breaking, but unlike the show, it's fun to listen to anyway. Download!
Song: Koumaroku Game/Anime/etc.: Koumaroku Type: theme Artist: Energyfield Comments: In the spirit of the holiday, I bring you a song from an H-game about demons. Don't look at me like that, I haven't played it. I just like Energyfield's music. This song is actually quite gorgeous -- it starts off with the singer singing the chorus a cappella, slowly adding eerie, percussive music underneath her. Then there's a brief instrumental bit with piano and violin, and then the singer comes back, this time with... what I thought were echo effects until I actually listened and realized that the "echo" was singing something different from the singer. Anyway, it's quite pretty and haunting and, at only two minutes, far too short. I wonder if there's a longer version out there somewhere. Download!
As always, requests are open; my list is here. One request per customer, and please request a specific song (not "anything by ____" or "anything from ____"). Please comment with your requests on the request post and not any other. Requests posted on rotations will be ignored. Current Music: MELL - Virgin's High!

 | 09:54 pm Finally, an update! Freewebs says my bandwidth for this month is used up, but that's utter BS because I don't think I've updated this month yet. So I've uploaded the songs to Freewebs anyway, hoping it'll come to its senses soon, but... yeah, if those links don't work, that's why. Not that anyone actually uses them anyway- I should just switch completely to YSI, shouldn't I? I just hate having to reupload. And I hate downloading from Rapidshare and Megaupload and don't want to subject you to those... so where does that leave me, really?
Mini-rant over, sorry. On to the music!
Song: BREAKTHROUGH Anime: Eyeshield 21 Type: 1st OP Artist: COMING CENTURY Comments: Generic shounen anime opening song. I like it better than BE FREE and Blaze Away, but it's still... nothing special, really. I would've been able to tell it was a shounen anime opening song even if I didn't know what it was from. So... yeah, it's rockish, energetic, optimistic... kinda fun, but not really as catchy as the better songs in this "genre" are. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Daisuke to Ken no Kaimono Carol Anime: Digimon Song type: Daisuke & Ken character song/Christmas song Artist: Kikuchi Reiko & Paku Romi Comments: It's a cute song. It really is. And appropriate for the season, too. But Kikuchi Reiko sounds horrible. She doesn't so much sing as she shouts off-key. If you can get around that, it's a pretty good song. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Farewell Song Anime: AIR Song type: ED Artist: LIA Comments: This song is on the fast-ish side, especially for LIA, and I don't think her voice is as well suited to it as it is to the slower ballads that she usually does. It's still rather pretty (and probably sad, because hey, this is LIA, and 90% of her songs seem to be about fleeting summer loves or something like that), although I prefer Aozora and Natsukage. Nevertheless, it's a good song, and you should download it. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Kuno-chan ga Yatte Kuru Anime: Ranma 1/2 Type: Nabiki character song Artist: Takayama Minami Comments: I'm not sure how to describe this song, really. It's fairly short, rather catchy, and very silly. The lyrics are most of the reason for getting it- it's not amazing musically, or anything, but it's funny, in an "oh, Nabiki, the things you'll do for money" way. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Make You Free (Kimeru version) Anime: Prince of Tennis Song Type: Either this version or the other one was the 3rd OP. I haven't gotten far enough to know which. Artist: Kimeru Comments: I think this was used as an "ending song," as it were, for one or more of the musicals, as well. Which is surprising, considering that songs from the Tenimyu tend to evoke a feeling of "OH GOD MY EARS THEY BLEED," whereas this song is really very good. Anyway, I'm not really sure what to say about this song- it's one of those "generic shounen theme songs" that I mentioned in my description of BREAKTHROUGH, although it's definitely one of the better ones (as songs from PoT so frequently are). I like it. Yeah. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Sakura Anime:Prince of Tennis Song Type: 6th ED Artist: Hamaguchi Youmu Comments: This song's from Prince of Tennis, too, but it's not generic and rockish. Instead, it's ridiculously overdramatic. Well, it's not actually ridiculous in and of itself- it's just a nice, angsty emotional J-pop song with piano (well, keyboards) and violins (except not so much once the song starts) and whatnot- and then you remember it's from Prince of Tennis. The anime about middle-school boys who are obsessed with tennis and have sparkly, gravity-defying tennis powers that make them capable of breaking their opponents' arms or whatever. And you try to equate that in your head with this sad, dramatic pop ballad... and you just have to laugh. Or I do, anyway. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Shourisha-tachi no Banka Anime: G Gundam Type: Domon Casshe (?) character song Artist: Seki Tomokazu Comments: Meh, I'm getting tired and running out of things to say. I'm not sure how to describe this song, either. Seki Tomokazu's voice is deeper here than it usually is... it sounds good for the most part, but he can't really seem to maintain the character voice the entire time. I really don't know what to say about the song itself, sorry. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Tokyo Anime: N/A Genre: J-folk-pop? Artist: Hirakawachi Icchome Comments: I think this is the only non-anime song this update. Anyway, this is an earlier song of theirs, I think, from before the lead singer's voice changed. It's fast-ish- for Hirakawachi Icchome, anyway- but it's still their usual brand of acoustic-guitar-heavy folk-pop. It's pretty nice, although I find that I prefer their later songs. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Requests are open- my list of mp3s is here. As always, I'll take six requests (the first six I get) before I close them. Each person may request only one song. Also, you may only request things that are on my mp3 list. Current Mood: accomplished Current Music: Matsumoto Rika- SURIRU ni Koishite

 | 07:54 pm You know, I really should stop doing updates on Wednesdays. I'm always tired and in a rush.
As you may have noticed, I've uploaded one extra this week. That's because someone commented on the rotation before last with a request while I was putting together the last rotation, and I told them it was too late for that rotation but I'd do it this time, and promptly forgot about it until the last possible minute. So here, have an extra song. Yay.
Song: Akane Iro no Sora Anime: N/A Genre: J-pop Artist: Hirakawachi Icchome Comments: Nice folky song with acoustic guitars and stuff. I think this is one of their more recent ones, judging by the fact that the lead singer's voice has actually changed. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Aozora Anime: AIR Song type: Artist: LIA Comments: Very pretty ballad; I like it more than I usually like ballads that aren't acoustic (well, or piano or orchestral or whatever- it might be more accurate just to say that I prefer real instruments). Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Canta per Me (Japanese version) Anime: Noir Song type: Insert song Artist: Kuwashima Houko (ignore the fact that the file tag says Kajiura Yuki) Comments: A very pretty, sad-sounding song; the melody is a little repetitive, but it doesn't take too much away from the song itself. The violin solos are nice. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Dress (singles version) Anime: N/A Genre: J-rock Artist: BUCK-TICK Comments: The original version of the song that is now the opening theme of Trinity Blood. I actually like this one better than the Trinity Blood version. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: KEEP GOING ON Anime: Prince of Tennis Song Type: Sanada character song Artist: Kusunoki Taiten Comments: Pretty typical Prince of Tennis song, with the whole slightly-rockish, energetic, "We can do it!" kind of feeling. I must, however, point out the similarity of the tune of the chorus to that of "Puff the Magic Dragon." No, I'm serious. I wish I were kidding. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: RIKImisugizu ni Nukisugizu Anime: N/A Genre: J-rock Artist: The INAZUMA Sentai Comments: The INAZUMA Sentai seem to be fairly obscure- I'd never heard of them until a friend of mine brought a single of theirs back from Japan. This song was on that single, which remains the only one of theirs I have. It's fairly catchy, slightly poppish rock that reminds me a bit of Charcoal Filter. Download! [YSI Mirror]
Song: Shibireru Kurai Kanjitai Anime: Angelique Song Type: Oscar & Olivie character song Artist: Horiuchi Kenyuu & Koyasu Takehito Comments: Nice rockish song. Horiuchi Kenyuu's singing is better here than it is in "Build A Fire", the only other song of his that I have. Koyasu Takehito sounds good as always... although none of Olivie's songs seem crack-ish enough to me. I mean, he is the comic relief. You'd expect him to have something funny. But that's beside the point, really. Download! [YSI Mirror]
