Question. [20 Aug 2008|01:45pm]

maggiesox
What has two thumbs and spent the last hour eating pizza in a conference room and watching The Office?

It's a special, special kind of awesome sitting next to people who have never seen a single episode of the show before as they watch 'The Dundies,' 'Sexual Harrassment' and 'Office Olympics.' I was mildly concerned there was going to be some choking at some point, and I think there may be a fight for my DVDs now.

Converts. Win.

PS: Today is proof positive that Jim Halpert does, in fact, make everything better.

You guys.

I passed out about fifteen minutes after writing that entry last night. I only woke up at 6 AM because [info]wing2j roused my ass out of bed to go to work. I have no idea what happened. None.

But now I'm kind of woozy and bleary because I think I maybe slept too much.

So in the conintuing adventures of 'What Happens to maggie's Cell Phone After She Accidentally Drowns it in the Atlantic Ocean (A True Story)' my cell phone is slowly giving up the ghost. I've ordered a new one (I am the reason insurance plans on cell phones exist, people) but it's going to take 7-10 business days (!) from Friday to get here. In the interim, my phone is dying a slow and painful death.

Seriously, I think it may be time to pull the plug. )
Oh, and today, it has started sending text messages in ransom format. I would like to show you (punctuation and capitalization completed BY MY PHONE) the text message I tried to send this morning: 'You My Beat ME In. IF YOu Do I'LL Come Get YOU. (I HATe MY Hone.)' Someone's going to come arrest me for kidnapping the Lindbergh baby soon, I swear.

Don't drown your phones, kids. They don't like it.

Boston people: Would it be easier to set up one big bar meetup where we can all meet each other, or would you prefer we do one on one? We've got time to kill during the days, so I defer to your wisdom and your schedules. (And, um, can someone recommend me bars? All the bars I like are closing or are not conducive to sitting and chatting, unless by 'sitting and chatting' you mean 'singing along with the Irish band.' RIP, Littlest bar. I loved you the most.)

Since becoming a food snob, I have only ever bought fresh pasta, which is kind of *astronomically* expensive. So I am wondering, dear flist, from those of you with experience in the matter:

1) How much does a pasta press cost?

and 2) How much labour/time does it take to use?

and 3) How much effort does it take to wash?

What I am basically asking it, is it a worthwhile investment, and will I use the damn thing or will it sit in the pantry like an ugly and expensive knick-knack?

I got back from the gym, wolfed down dinner, sat down on the couch and promptly fell asleep.

I woke up, rolled over, saw that the clock read '8:06' and shot off the couch panicked because I need to be at work by 8...8 AM. I was at the stairs to go up to shower before the Olympics came on and I realized that it was only 8 PM.

I think it's safe to say that I am completely and utterly wiped out. As long as I don't get sick again, we're cool. I don't have time to get sick again. I have exactly enough time to go to work, come home, go to the gym, make dinner and fall asleep at some point. There is no extraneous time built in there for getting sick.

HOWEVER! Massachusetts people: The Great and Mighty Wing and I are headed northwards for the Tampa Bay series at the beginning of September. Who wants drinks/coffee/wandering aimlessly around the city?

Mrrf. You guys, I have been asleep for an hour and I could happily go right back to sleep. I don't know what's wrong with me.

PS: I love track and field. Good thing, too, because I don't think there's a shot in hell I'm making it through to gymnastics at 10:30 tonight, EVEN THOUGH I ALREADY KNOW WHAT HAPPENS, YOU JERKS. Ahem.

FIGHT. FIGHT. FIGHT. [19 Aug 2008|05:27pm]

maggiesox
Okay, I give.

The fact that a dude named Paddy Barnes just guaranteed Ireland's first medal of the Beijing Games by advancing to the semis in boxing causes me no small measure of glee. I suppose we should all consider ourselves lucky that alcohol consumption isn't an Olympic sport. (Although it should be, because I would win handily.)

Awww, stereotyping my heritage for the win.

And now, if you'll excuse me, today sucked and I am going to go for a nice long run before I figure out how to hurt people solely through the power of my mind. (Though if I do, one imagines I should assemble a list so as to put my newfangled superpowers to generalized use. I mean, I could get behind mercenary violence. Just think of the billboards I could put up.)

GOD DAMN YOU GMAIL, IT'S NOT EVEN NINE AM AND YOU HAVE ALREADY SPOILED ME FOR TWO FULL MEDAL RESULTS. AS SUCH, I HATE YOU.

I am having a 'people are stupid' day and I haven't even finished my tea yet. This does not bode well.

ETA: Ew. What a creepy bastard.

And now, it's time for gymnastics. I'm already spoiled (fucking gmail), but you should all fell free to come snark on the kindergarten class Chinese women's team with me. (Why yes, I AM still bitter, why do you ask?)

I am, however, just about ready to be done with gymnastics if only so that I can get Tim Daggett the fuck off my TV. Bela can stay. In fact, I want Bela in the booth doing commentary on every sport ever. I mean, can you imagine him getting all indignant about a strike zone? It would be beautiful.

Ugh. Bob Costas just asked Bela if he thought that the judges were influenced by the fact that the Olympics were taking place in China when scoring the Chinese teams. No, Bob. Not at all. I'm sure that has nothing to do with it. Idiot.

Friendslist! I am on a revising ROLL.

Okay, but, I need you!

Is it "a Euripides translation" or "an Euripides translation"?

ETA: IT WOULD HELP IF I COULD SPELL EURIPIDES

DAUGHTER OF ETA: Thank you all; fixed now!

Lest you people think I talk about nothing but the Olympics... [18 Aug 2008|08:41pm]

maggiesox
I'm totally going to talk about nothing but the Olympics and how I am about to choke Gmail like a bitch for spoiling me for THREE SOLID EVENTS tonight. Seriously, gmail, you're all about the targeted ads: how about targeting them so you don't ruin events for folks NOT IN FUCKING BEIJING, ASSWIPES?

Also, I would not like to run into any of these female shotputters in a dark alley because I am pretty sure that they could simply glare me to death, much less snap my spine like a twig.

....Oh, FUCK ME, BEACH VOLLEYBALL AGAIN? I DON'T CAAAARE, NBC.

Here. Have two things to read that amused me today:

1) A Beautiful Place To Die.

The signs are supposed to remind hikers of their vulnerability. Especially those who, emboldened by cellphones and global positioning systems, set off into the Presidential Range in New Hampshire's White Mountains carrying little else besides day packs stocked with PowerBars. The message, in black lettering on yellow, is blunt: "STOP. The area ahead has the worst weather in America. Many have died there from exposure, even in the summer. Turn back now if the weather is bad."

I sent that bad boy to [info]wing2j earlier today because we have indeed hiked in the White Mountains and did indeed damn near die on the side of Mount Lafayette. To this day, I am amazed that I got four people off the mountain in the pitch dark. Oh, and did I mention that it was practically monsooning and I had no flashlight? And that at points on the trail down Lafayette, the trail drops off to a sheer cliff face on one side? Yeah. That...was terrifying. But I did it. Because I rule, naturally.

2) Hamlet: Facebook News Feed Edition.

Ophelia joined the group Maidens Who Don't Float. Heh.

COME ON JUST GET TO THE FUCKING GYMNASTICS ALREADY.
