Anna Netrebko sings Elettra and Rolando Villazón sings the title role of Idomeneo at the Opera Bastille in Paris in January 2010. She is also scheduled at the Opera Bastille in Paris as Adina in L'Elisir d'Amore, with Rolando Villazón as Nemorino, and as Marguerite in Faust, with Roberto Alagna in the title role.

Anna Netrebko sings Desdemona at the Teatro alla Scala di Milano conducted by Daniel Barenboim in 2011. The role of Otello has not yet been assigned!

Anna Netrebko sings Tatiana of Eugene Onegin at the MET of New York in 2012.

More of Anna humming in adverts (via myspace). Looking slighty like Mortica Addams but still beautiful.

Last night of the Proms [30 Sep 2007|02:59pm]

Double post I know...

I'm suprised that nothing has been posted about Anna singing at Last Night of the Proms in the UK. She was the undisputed star of the evening. She sang a Sonnambula aria, (Ah! Non Creda Mirarti?)  Morgen with Joshua Bell and, my favourite,
Mein Lippen sie Kussen so Heiss. This is something you have to see. :)

Meet Opera's Domestos Goddess (Daily Mail 07/06/2007)

This is a very nice article on Anna.

A new CD is mentioned that I have not heard about. Anyone know anything? This is the first that I've heard of it as far as I can recall. (And Deutsche Grammophon, way to go to be creative with the CD title.)

"Opera by Anna Netrebko is released in September on Deutsche Grammophon."

I suppose that the US won't see the CD for a few months considering that Duets won't even be out until September.

Sochi, Russia [10 Jun 2007|01:05am]

rock_inthe_pond
Some Anna Netrebko newsbits:

The Russian city of Sochi, on the coast of the Black Sea and in the Caucasus mountains, will have a new music festival. The city is in Krasnodar Krai. Valery Gergiev announced that he will be a co-founder of the festival along with Anna Netrebko. They both hail from the Caucasus region.

A quote from Ian Bostridge about getting Britten to be sung by a more varied group in 'Opera' magazine (May 2007):

"I've been trying to persuade Anna Netrebko to sing The Poet's Echo, and talking to Simon Keenlyside about transposing some of the tenor cycles down. I know this is music that is hugely popular and performed everywhere, but I still feel that in terms of style and interpretation, it needs opening up a bit."

Carnegie Hall, Mariinsky and the Salzburg 'Le Nozze di Figaro' [15 May 2007|11:13pm]

rock_inthe_pond
Anna Netrebko's Carnegie Hall Concert with Dmitri Hvorostovsky will be on May 30th. Tickets are sold out (they sold out extremely quickly, Berlin/Vienna quickly). Anyway, here is a podcast with a short bit with Anna and also the Emerson String Quartet:

http://www.carnegiehall.org/article/sound_insights/Podcasts/art_intro_podcasts.html?s=smPromo3

Anna will be part of a concert at the new Mariinsky Theatre's Concert Hall as part of the White Night's Festival on May 25th. It's an all Tchaikovsky concert with Gergiev conducting.

The Salzburg Festival's 'Le Nozze di Figaro' is due out in June and here is the Deutsche Grammophon site:

I'm sure this one will be controversial. I had a chance to see it and I'm still not sure what to make of it. Sometimes I hated it, other times I loved it and sometimes I hated it and loved it at the same time. Harnoncourt's tempi, the removal of the comedy, the ambiguity all drove me nuts but most of the time I thought that the thing was just so bizarrely moving and beautiful.

An Interesting Interview [10 May 2007|11:21pm]

rock_inthe_pond
Here is an interview given to Anna and Rolando, in German and in French (same as the German interview but shortened), that had some new things in it that I hadn't heard before.

German: http://www.arte.tv/de/kunst-musik/oper/Oper-des-Monats/Nav-Opera-manon-villazon/1560950,CmC=1560952.html

French: http://www.arte.tv/fr/art-musique/1560952.html

They talk a bit about why their partnership on stage works so well. Apparently she can suffer from panic attacks (which probably explains what happened during a concert in Paris.) Some of this is funny some of it is quite touching. I'm going to have to go back and look at some of their performances again.

On another note, I noticed something odd. I think most of you are familiar with Rolando's cartoons. The one on the bottom and right hand corner is for Manon 2007.

http://www.rolandovillazon.com/eng/gallery_display.php?operaID=100

It's hilarious but it's also part of the animation you see right at the beginning of the Deutsche Grammophon site for the 'Duets' album. The cartoon has absolutely nothing to do with clapping.

Anna Netrebko named among 100 people who changed the world [03 May 2007|02:54pm]
e_clair
Anna Netrebko named by Time magazine among 100 people who "shaped our world".
She is placed as # 3 on the list among artists and entertainers.

"The People Who Shape Our World
Here's our list of the 100 men and women whose power, talent or moral example is transforming the world.

Opera, that gorgeous folly, has outlived the rarefied culture that once sustained it. It can't offer the high-voltage stars and sexy mass appeal that today's entertainment scene demands. Or so say its detractors. Then along comes Russian soprano Anna Netrebko—knockout good looks, bewitching charm and a mesmerizing hold on the media, which tirelessly chronicle her penchant for partying and haute couture.

Behind the celebrity persona, Netrebko, 35, is the real deal, nurtured at Russia's Kirov Opera and now in demand from Salzburg to Tokyo. From her delicate frame comes a voice of astonishing richness and power. She's also a riveting actress; just watch her ignite the stage as the doomed Violetta in La Traviata. Netrebko's blend of vocal splendor and dramatic intensity has evoked comparisons with Maria Callas. Flattering, Netrebko says, but she wants to get to the point where she's celebrated for being herself. She's already there."
