Affordable housing for upcoming school year?

I'm looking for a room that will be available for move-in around the end-ish of August. The catch? I can't pay much for rent: ~$300 or less. If anyone knows of a friend or acquaintance that needs a roommate within (bus) distance of Eastern or Washtenaw, either in Ypsi or Ann Arbor, drop a comment here or go to my personal journal. I'm a pretty easy to get along with person with no pets. I do smoke but am fully willing to smoke outside or in an alley or something along those lines; I just really need a place to stay! I don't care about male or female roommates, preferably under 25 though. I'm 18 and female.

Any help you can give would be great!

Beach Chairs

Does anyone know where I can for sure find the plastic version (without the stool) of the beach chair behind the cut? I saw a bunch at the Target on Carpenter for $17 and am kicking myself in the pants for not getting a pair then. This weekend I searched the Target on Carpenter, on Ann Arbor/Saline Rd., in Brighton, and also Meijer, Michael's, Bed Bath & Beyond, and the Sears store in Brighton.

If you see/have seen something similar around the same price, please let me know!

WANTED: The Proclaimers Tickets at the Ark

I am gutted. I fell down a flight of stairs and broke my ankle and both lower leg bones three weeks ago. I have since had a very painful surgery, a week in the hospital and a week at home now of recovery. In the process I missed my opportunity to obtain tickets to see The Proclaimers at the Ark this coming Wednesday.

Is there anyone in the area that would be willing to sell 1-2 tickets to this coming Wednesday's Proclaimers show at the Ark or know anyone that might?

I have been looking forward to this concert and to know I missed getting tickets because of an accident that is causing so much pain already is just heartbreaking.

Thanks for any help or leads guys. I really appreciate it.

Dog Parks?

I was just wondering if anyone in the community knows of any dog parks within the Ann Arbor/Ypsi area. We currently take our dog to Animal Kingdom's dog park on Ann Arbor/Saline road, but we live here in Ypsi. We would like to find something a little closer to where we live. We are on Green road in the Huron View Apartments. We are looking for something that is fenced in for now, since we just got our dog and we don't completely trust her off leash in a un-fenced area.

We just recently had her check-up at Animal Kingdom and we took her to the dog park there, and she loved it and had a blast playing with the other dogs. Is there anything else in the area, that is fenced in as far as dog parks?

Scholars Cosmetology University is a new beauty school at 4569 Washtenaw Ave. Because we are so new we don't yet have a ton of clients.

SO, next week on Tuesday and Thursday only we are offering FREE HAIRCUTS.

We start taking clients at 10:00 am, and we close at 4:00 pm.

We are also doing a prom package that includes an updo, a manicure and makeup application for only $35.You can add a facial for $10. You don't have to be going to prom to get in on the great deal!
For the prom package make sure that you call 734-971-3001 to make an appointment. Or you can comment and let me know what time/day you want to come in!
The free haircuts will be walk-in, first come first serve.

Time: I can start letting people in at about 8pm — show up before 7pm, and I'll probably be at Whole Foods of Trader Joe's; show up between 7pm and 8pm, I'd appreciate a little help tidying up or setting the snacks out.

Attire: Anything goes!

Foods? I'll have a veggie tray, crisp and salty snackery (probably Sun Chips), Pink Flamingo and Lobstra pasta salad, layered dip, and cake. Feel free to bring anything else you like. I have one confirmed guest offering to bring gelatine moulds. :-D

Boozles? I have a confirmed guest offering to bring rum, and I have frozen Piña Colada mix I shall also have root boozles, and I have a bottle of ouzo here. Other than that, it's BYOB.

If you have any film preferences, who cares? I just rented everything that I didn't already own from Liberty Street, except for the 1986 Hairspray, which was on the New Arrival rack (because I forgot to write down the requests before leaving). Other than that, if you are the person who checked "Diane Linkletter Story, Roman Candles or something earlier" on that old poll in my LJ from February, remember that checking it off implies to me that you're ready to bring it. If you do not bring, I will lord it over you every following year that I have a party.

If you're coming from out of town (and preferably, if I've at least met you once once in-person), I can have up to four people here overnight, so that you don't have to pay for a hotel — first come, first served.

Other things to note: There are three cats here — if you have allergies, please consider that ahead of time. Also, one of the cats has a mild case of asthma, so there is a designated smoking area (my bedroom, and outside on the stoop to the building).

The 17th Annual Smithee Awards

Smithee Awards XVII: Almost Legal will be taking Ann Arbor by storm Saturday, April 19th at 7:00 p.m. in the Modern Languages Building Auditorium 3 (812 East Washington - note the venue change from previous years). If you are a "B" movie junkie, like sub-par cinema or just like to watch movies that will never make it to any other awards show ever, this is the event for you. Throughout the year, several dedicated "B" movie watchers have been slaving over hot DVD players and VHS players selecting the worst possible clips from a large gamut of movies. We've gathered these clips into 19 separate classic bad movie categories ranging from "Most Ludicrous Premise" to "Stupidest Looking Monster, "Worst Science" and beyond. Now we need your help to determine which of the five clips is the king or queen of bad in its category. We'll supply the Unhealthy Snacks and Drinks of Color Not Found in Nature and the movie clips, all you need to do is show up and have a good time.

Summer sublets in independent A2 co-op!

Rooms to sublet this summer in Heiwa House, a seven-person progressive independent co-op. Summer sublet dates are flexible and more than one room will be available.

Each housemate pays at total of $540 per month that covers "everything": $400 for rent, plus $40 for utilities (wireless internet, phone, free laundry, gas/electric, and water), and $100 for food (we share food bought from local community farms, the Peoples' Food Co-op, and in bulk). Our outdoor common space includes veggie gardens, a bike shed, parking, and a sauna. The co-op is located on a bus line and within easy walking or biking distance to Ann Arbor downtown, University of Michigan campus and medical center.

Heiwa was founded in 1985 by peace and justice activists. Our membership is environmentally conscious, politically active, and LGBT celebratory. We are a vegetarian, non-smoking household who enjoy sitting down to dinner together (though you do not need to be vegetarian or a non-smoker to live here). Our community includes working folks and grad students of all ages, as well as the two-child family next door and occasionally boarders.

I'm fond of planning my Hallowe'en costumes *way* ahead of time, and here's this year's idea:

Dr. Teeth & The Electric Mayhem.

I've been obsessively watching Jim Henson creations for the past couple of days, which made me think of two things:

1) Dr. Teeth has always been my favourite Muppet

2) OMG Best Hallowe'en costume idea ever!

I've already decided that I'm going as Dr. Teeth for Hallowe'en this year, but to really make it work, I'm going to need to go with a Floyd Pepper, a Zoot, a Janice, and Animal, and possibly (for 5th season Muppet Show fans, a Lips.

Unfortunately, most of my friends suck in this respect. Either they'd rather do something boring or less DIY-intensive for Hallowe'en or I can't get enough people interested to bring an idea like this together.

This is where you come in!

I'm looking for four people who are willing to do this Hallowe'en costume idea with me. We shall make our own costumes, help the rest of the group with costuming, and have it all done in time for awesome Hallowe'en parties.

If you're interested, make a claim *here* on which character you want to do and drop me a note (preferably via LJ or through my site — that way you're guaranteed that it won't get mistaken for SPAM in my groggy A.M. hours).

I am seeking serious people willing to make this commitment. If you CANNOT commit to this project, please don't claim a character just cos you think this is an awesome idea. I actually really do want to do this and am thus only looking for other people who really want to do it, too.

I'm seeking people who can dedicate approximately one to two hours a week (plus any bus/driving time) to sit around at my place like big dorks and work on this stuff with me in my living room. I say *approximately* — if it's easier on your schedule or budget, you can come over once a month, even (one of the reasons I'm starting on this in February). Léim Irish Dance this Saturday!

Léim is back in the Michigan Theater with another groundbreaking theatrical performance. The dancers will astonish you with their high-energy footwork and clean precision, illustrating stories of passion, anger, heartbreak, friendship, and true love, as they dance to everything from lively traditional Irish music to Red Hot Chili Peppers or hip-hop (and nowhere else will you find techno bagpipes!)
