| [JAPANESE QUESTION] |
[Jun. 28th, 2009|09:01 pm] |
So, while immersing myself in a random subbing project, I've come across something that I'm just not making sense of. Unfortunately, all I have to go on is what I hear.
It sounds like what is being said is "dobi de utte 'masu yo." He says this as he's passing out candy, so the idea of saying it's sold somewhere seems fitting; however, I cannot figure out what the "dobi" might be referring to. Thoughts?
...as long as I'm already posting, I'm going to throw a couple of other questions.
I'm a bit confused on what exactly "ittai nani iru yo" is supposed to translate to. Would it be something to the effect of "what in the world do you need?" (The character comes out on stage [in character], sees the audience, comments on how there are a lot of people...and follows up with this).
He also says something that sounds like "wansu" or "wantsu" to the audience, kind of out on its own. I'm really not sure what to do with it. XD; |

| Why does Cartoon Network hate anime [obvious troll is obvious] |
[Sep. 21st, 2008|09:34 pm] |
Cartoon Network, at Anime Weekend Atlanta, announced that it would end the Toonami block of programming on Sept. 20th. This announcement was both unexpected and, to be frank, very last minute.
So Toonami is gone, they're not running any anime on [as] during the week, and I know what their schedule SAYS is supposed to be on on Saturday night, but it's a pack of lies, lies, and damned lies. I, personally, kept trying to watch or record Death Note and Code Geas and every time I tried to get them at the scheduled time they were never on.
In a way, I'm glad I bailed out of the [as] message boards a long time ago; the polite "Please stop killing off the anime showings," posts from the action crowd have always been drowned out by the "BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW I HATE ANIME BAWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW," of Mike Lazzo and the rabid & nonsensical ranting of the OP goons. I will miss the opportunity to actually watch some shows before sinking money into buying them.
Any thoughts? |

[Aug. 8th, 2008|11:51 pm] |
i'm not sure how often people check but i got more questions regarding my move to l.a. if anyone can help (i know it's quite irrelevant to the group but this is the only online community i visit :P).
so we decided on a place in rosemead and i'm looking around for internet providers... do any of you have any recommendations since the only one i can find is at&t. we'll also be needing a land phone line... i think the provider i have now is a local one so that doesn't help much.
i'm also having my roommate ask around but we're both not tech savvy so any help would be much appreciated! |

| [LYRICS DISCUSSION] Megumi Hayashibara - Plenty of grit & Revolution |
[Jul. 22nd, 2008|04:22 pm] |
Been a long time hasn't it? Though I don't know if anyone missed me >_>;...
Anyway, looking for some help on a transliteration... actually it'll be two in the end, I just don't know whether to edit this post later and add the second one or make a new post. I'll probably just edit this one for the sake of not annoying people.
Thanks for any help!
(Er if it looks fine please let me know as well, I have this issue with not knowing if people are just not commenting or if there's just nothing wrong so people don't feel the need to comment)

This is a song from a game called すくみず~フェチ☆になるもんっ! Oddly, in the game the song is called 夏だ! 祭りだ! スク水だ! I have the gist of it, but some parts mystify me. I would appreciate any comments on any part of my translation attempt, but I have tinted what I feel are problem areas. 助けてください! |

| [not quite a Japanese question, but...] Professional translation |
[May. 25th, 2008|02:12 am] |
|
So, after several years of amateur translating (and one actual class on translation, so I can claim that it's college that led me to it), I've decided that I want to do it professionally, eventually. Problem is, I have no idea how to go about getting a job as a professional translator -- I don't even know where I should start to look for information on how to do that. I know it's a bit of a stretch, but would any of you happen to have any information/advice/whatever on that front? Or at least, know where I could go/to whom I could talk to get some? |

| Some more questions |
[Apr. 11th, 2008|06:56 pm] |
Sorry for posting so frequently. Can anyone help me with the following questions?
(Question 1 edited)
1. 試験の前だけ勉強したところで、実力はつかない。
a. Does the above line means "you can't gain any real strength if you study only before the exam"? b. Does the つかない in this sentence the same as the 付く in 身に 付く? c. Is 付かない the appropriate kanji for the verb つかない in this sentence?
2. Which is the correct choice of word to be used in the following? a. これはあの作家(らしく / らしい)作品だ。 b. 若者(らしく / らしい)もっと積極的にいろんなことをやってみなさいよ。 c. (走らなかったところで / 走らなくても)間に合います。
I suppose the answers are: a. らしい, b.らしく, c. 走らなくても. Please let me know if I am right or wrong, thanks! |
