If you don't know what Chicago Comic-Con is, it can be best described as a comic/sci-fi/gaming convention, formerly known as Wizard World. I'm not sure why the name change took place, but They also have some anime stuffs there too, and it's been growing in number in the past years, as well as the cosplayers. They may have an anime room, where they will be showing various anime throughout the convention. They had one last year, but i'm not sure that they will have one this year, seeing as Anime Insider folded.

Anime Central (ACen) is the annual convention of the Midwest Animetion Promotion Society, Chicago's largest anime, manga and Japanese popular culture convention. Chicago Comic-Con runs from August 6-9, 2009 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center. It is a national pop culture convention, connecting attendees with celebrity guests, artists, writers and other industry professionals.

It shows the freedom of speech of showing for who we are and what we love to do. It brings together people from many different areas to see their old friends and meet new ones. Even though it lacks in major factors such as a convention center, hotel, and dealers room, it can still provide the fulfillment of fun, photo opportunities, and meeting alot of people. SoyCon will hopefully someday become an official convention, but for now, it will start from the basics. Soy Sauce's vision is to create a conference that's innovative and different with also keeping the fans' interest from old to new. And what do you have to pay to experience this wonderful weekend? Member activity policy.

In light of the difficulties we've experiences with the most recent member clean up, I am instituting a new policy from this point forward. This policy is being instituted to keep the group members active, and prevent me having to do this mass cleanup twice a year.

I want every member to bookmark this topic, and subscribe to it. This way you will be informed of when it is updated, and when the cleanups will take place. I'm really sorry I have to use such an extreme measure, but this is designed to make it easier to maintain the forum(for the mods sanity), so we need to make the following changes.

Every three months(March-June-September-December or January), I will deactivate accounts for the following reasons listed below (Note: you will also be removed from the Yahoo and Google groups).

1. If your account has zero (0) posts.

2. If your account shows no activity during that three month period.

I feel that if you are a member of a group such as this, you should not only be logging into the forum regularly, but contributing to the group in some way. Please remember that the purpose of this group is to meet others and participate in conversations to share your love of anime and manga.

There has been some confusion about membership to JAPC.

If you wish to be a member of JAPC, you must follow the instructions on this page of the JAPC website:

Soon after you register for the forum, you will be receiving an email from a moderator with details and instructions for you to follow.

Once your account has been activated on our forum, you will then be added to our Yahoo and Google group.

JAPC has a web site, Yahoo/Google Group, Forum, and LiveJournal Community. You must use the same email address for memberships/subscriptions to the Yahoo Group/Google Group and Forum, and when you fill out the membership form.

All group communication is via our forums; generally, only links to the forum topics are posted to our Yahoo and Google Groups - they're really just for backup purposes in the event of forum malfunction. Thus, the forums are the most important of those three to be a part of and to pay attention to if you want to keep in touch with us and what's going on.

Camp Fandom 2.0

On March 21 and 22 at Illinois Institute of Technology, McCormick Tribune Campus Center in Chicago, we're having Camp Fandom 2.0.

Camp Fandom 2.0 is for fans, fan fiction writers, fan vidders, fan website maintainers, entertainment companies, convention dealers, convention runners, gamers, bloggers, professional authors, new media artists, fan artists, or people who have some investment in movie, television, or speculative fiction fan communities. The topics are should be geared around the web, social media, on-line activities, computers, gaming, or mobile phones as they pertain to that topic. Camp Fandom 2.0 is about the back end of fandom, the support structures that go into being a fan.

The event is a barcamp so it is free to attend. It is also a barcamp so anyone can sign up to present pretty much on whatever fandom/entertainment related issue that you want as it pertains to fandom's back end. We don't really have a budget so if you're interested in attending, we'd love for you to help promote the event. :-D

It would be really great to see the anime community there talking about issues like translations, piracy, people's responses to things like CrunchyRoll, running an anime convention, publicizing your anime club at your university, promoting your cosplaying on-line, getting a job related to anime, etc.

Why is my account deactivated?!
