| I'm gauging interest in a multi-fandom convention aimed at Livejournal users to be held in 2008 in the UK. It'll be a great opportunity to meet your f-list and perhaps find a few new friends to add. I've set up a poll in my journal for people to express whether or not they're interested and in what. You can fill it in here. There's also a community set-up for even more polls so that people who want to attend can give their input. You can visit it at eljayuk.
Crossposted around so apologies if you see it more than once which you're likely to if you're in more than one fandom! | comments: Leave a comment |
| Well the 5 other people who watch the RSS feed for the site will have just had their friends list spammed up with article after article, so I thought an explanation should be in order.
When we moved the location we were storing the blog data, we didn't make a new RSS feed for it. A new one has been made now, and the address for the syndicated account changed. So this sudden burst has been LJ repropogating the account from the new feed.
For those who don't have the account and want to know the rare occasions we've actually updated the front page it is animeenglandrss
And if you want to get it updated more frequently, then PM me on the forum with an article, and we will get it up there.
And for those who didn't even know we had a front page it can be found at either of these 2 addresses:

| Heyas! New person here
I'm a anime fan from 'North Wheezy' (mind my slang, and im not telling you where!) and have been since i saw Pokemon and Sailor Moon on German TV when i was nine. I was wondering if there were any Gankutsuou fans in the UK. There seems to be alot of Narutards and closet anime fans, but no Ganky fans. I seem to be like the only Gankutsuou fan in London *sob*
Can anyone tell me where you can get any copies of the Gankutsuou manga in London? (I know about Japan Centre, but they sell in Japan prices aswell.)
Thanks! and anyone going to the next London Expo? | comments: Leave a comment |

| I'm from Coventry, which is pretty much dead in the centre of England for those of you who don't know. It's right next to Birmingham. A local bookstore has very recently started holding 'manga club evenings' but they really aren't all that great, and, seeing as all my friends think that cartoons are for children, I've finally turned to LiveJournal.
I'm female and almost 17 now. I go by the name Tori and I have been reading manga and watching anime solidly for about two years now. Among my favourite series are Samurai Deeper Kyo, Peacemaker Kurogane, Ikkitousen, Shaman King and Rurouni Kenshin, though I do read and enjoy primarily-shojo manga as well, such as Yami no Matsuei. I tried ever so hard to get tickets for Anime North in Toronto this year, but I have an English Language AS right in the middle of the con, so I couldn't. Ah, maybe next year. | comments: 4 comments or Leave a comment |
| | Subject: | Doke, Doke, Dokeee~. Cromartie High on the move. | | Time: | 02:56 pm |

Cromartie High School will be released here in England, soon. I've already seen the series... also, the live action movie, but for those who haven't seen it yet and want something new, I guess that this is a significant animé release this year for the United Kingdom.
http://www.advfilms.com/titles/cromartie/
The Release Date is penned down for 17-04-2006.
For those who haven't seen it, this series is pretty much a comedy about Japanese Yankii, or Juvenile Delinquents. They basically look and act like Yakuza, but are still in school. A really awful school, with the most stupid students you could ever imagine. To be honest, there's also a student that looks like Queen's "Freddie Mercury" who is simply named... Freddie! - Also, there's a robot called Mechazawa with a really soothing voice, and a Gorilla.
I happen to think the writing is pretty good, and the comedy is top notch. The episodes come in ten minute slots, like the manga they are basically done in sketches or skits. I'd definitely recommend this series over something like "Excel Saga", which heavily relied on referencing other Japanese Animé. This show manages to be somewhat original, and that's what is so fresh about it. This isn't me writing a review, I'm simply stating my opinion after reading some rather stupid reviews of the series on some English animé fansites that shall re-name un-made.
I mean, remain un-named. Obviously~.
There's a lot of irony, Japanese wordplay jokes, and basically, bizarre comedy. Also, there's a lot of references to famous music and musicians floating around, which appears to be what the series has been pitched to the public by ADV Films as. They've totally avoided the whole issue of the Japanese Yankii, I guess. But, anyhow, since they were the original covers, I guess I can't make an issue of that.
It really is great. There's some classic scenes and really great characters. Especially Freddie, of course.
Oh, and the English version is also pretty good, I guess. But they miss a lot of the timing on the jokes now and again, I guess.
Anyone already a fan? - Hopefully, the series will see some success here in the U.K, because it definitely deserves some attention! | comments: Leave a comment |
