I don't have the time for this because I only have time for Team Fortress 2, but I've seen reports of many anime fans playing this game. You don't have to pay to get in but you do have to pay for upgrades and guilds.

Nadia vs. Atlantis [05 May 2008|06:03pm]

Sure we've all heard of the Lion King controversy, but what about Nadia?

...this one was much worse, IMO.

Prince of Tennis [05 May 2008|06:06pm]

Prince of Tennis Question, as I have just gotten into it. Can anyone who does screencaps or has the fansubs or R2 DVDS, take a screencap or two of Inui's eyes in the episodes where we can see them?
Am I the only one here who enjoys Sports Anime? I just recently started Prince of Tennis (and am already through all 4 boxsets (episodes 1-50) and am slightly frustrated with Viz over their evasion of announcing future releases so far. My favorite player is Kaido :D

Does anyone have any recommendations for other Sports Anime? Sadly I don't have internet capabilities for downloading anything that's not available in R1 Release. (I hope someone licenses Captain Tsubasa though, as that's one I'm really interested in seeing)
I've seen Fighting Spirit, Princess Nine, Angelic Layer (kind of sporty) Kaleido Star, Hoop Days (I wish there were more)
I'm currently watching Dan Doh! and I have Baki the Grappler & Initial D to watch after that.

My Anime List Just so if I forgot to mention one, you know what I have.

Also, is anyone else going to get Aria now that it's licensed? I'm considering getting it, as I've heard quite a few people recommend it.

Wikipedia is sloppy and sometimes it really shows [30 Apr 2008|01:04pm]

nanikore
Wikipedia entry on steampunk
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steampunk

"Steampunk is a subgenre of fantasy and speculative fiction which came into prominence in the 1980s and early 1990s. The term denotes works set in an era or world where steam power is still widely used—usually the 19th century, and often set in Victorian era England—but with prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy, such as fictional technological inventions like those found in the works of H. G. Wells and Jules Verne, or real technological developments like the computer occurring at an earlier date."

...somewhere further down the page:

There are also numerous instances of the Steampunk subgenre in manga and anime and Japanese video games – famous examples are Fullmetal Alchemist, Last Exile and Howl's Moving Castle. 2006's Simoun, a TV series of Victorian era aesthetics, is another example. The anime and manga series, D.gray-man takes place in an alternate history where the late 1900s has advanced technology such as mechas and machinery. Its history also changes the history of both England, Japan and other nations.

I see something really glaring on the page. If a series like Simoun makes it onto the entry, then how come Escaflowne doesn't? The only "Victorian retrotech" elements shown on Simoun was the decor that came with the train and flying machines, as opposed to Escafowne which actually comes with honest-to-goodness gear work. Fullmetal Alchemist is a bit borderline since steampunk arguably has more to do with the presentation of tech (as in the pervasive use of a scientific product instead of an exclusive archane art) rather than the visual style.

Perhaps the people who have contributed to the entry simply aren't old enough fans to have seen Escaflowne. That's a distinct possibility that I highly suspect.

Flame Haze [29 Apr 2008|09:53pm]

[ mood | content ]

So I've been watching Shakugan no Shana (randomly, I used to link anime titles to AnimeNfo, now I link to Wikipedia; there's very little reason for this change beyond personal preference) again.

God, I love this show.

It's one of those great anime series that manages to appeal to both sides of my character, the uber-butch and the super-feme. Jam packed and filled almost to bursting with action and genuine character moments, cool fights and magic spells, interpersonal relationships and potential romance. What more could anyone ask?

Naturally, an onsen episode.

I watched the series voraciously when it first hit the air; I gobbled up the first season with reckless abandon when it first came out. The only other anime I can ever recall being so excited for when new episodes to hit the fansub sites was Full Moon wo Sagashite, and maybe Ouren High School Host Club. I watched the entire first season, but fell in to an anime slump shortly after and never caught the rest. It wasn't until recently, when someone pointed out my general otagnorance (otaku ignorance, in case you wondered) about the second season of Shakugan no Shana that I got up off my lazy ass and downloaded the remainder of the series. Including the movie, and all the specials. One of which, naturally, is the prerequisite anime onsen episode.

This post, admittedly, doesn't have a lot of genuine point. I'm not going to review an anime that has been out for ages. I'm not even positive I'm going to cross-post this to the [info]anime community, since I haven't posted a review over there in several months. I doubt anyone over there even remembers me. I've been in a relative dry spell since the end of Simoun and Kanon, and though Clannad should have brought me back from over the edge, I had no interest until very recently.

It took Shana to restore my anime love.

That's usually what it's like for me. It's the same with books and television too; when I go through a dry spell of fantasy novels, I pick up the Belgariad/Mallorean series by David Eddings, when I feel a bit disconnected from science-fiction, I put in some Deep Space Nine, Farscape, or Babylon 5, and when I need an anime boost, it's usually Cardcaptor Sakura that sets the world right. It's a bit like a big hug from an old friend, and sitting around for a few hours over coffee catching up. That wonderful sort of friend that no matter how great the distance that had sprung up between you, or how long it had been since you'd seen each other last, the moment you meet again, everything picks back up like no time at all had gone by.

So, that's what I've been up to recently; at the sake of my Warcraft time, I've been reconnecting with an old friend, so she can tell me a new story.

Totally worth it. At least so far. I suppose I'll be able to say for certain after the next twenty four episodes.

Maybe it will get me back in the reviewing (and posting) spirit. Who knows?

Also, I got paid today. First paycheck from the new job. And it's fat cash, baby.

To channel Borat a little, "Veeerrry niiiice..."

Did anyone say "Gundam 00 sucked"? [15 Apr 2008|02:03am]

nanikore
I tried to search for the thread here that talked about how badly Gundam 00 sucked, but failed to find one.

I guess it's just so obvious that nobody thought it's even a topic.

Well, it sucked. There. I just said it again, just in case somebody here already did.

If you want a good laugh while reading about how much it sucked you can look here at this person's blog. I think it's the funniest one I've seen yet on the subject of Gundam 00 suckage:

http://anime.miao.us/archives/2008/03/30/1363/

So why I'm going to watch the second season anyways? Beats the heck outta me.

help me find [09 Apr 2008|06:51am]

walkingreverie
I'm looking for a manga (may also be an anime) and I can't remember the name
It is about a girl and a demon whose life are bond together so if one dies the other dies. They go around killing other demons. The girl gets killed (obviously killing the demon too).
I was thinking it was 'cursed and save' but that didn't bring up any search results.
Thats all the info I got..
Thanks

AMVs and fandubs? [06 Apr 2008|04:14pm]

Hey, I'm looking for humorous AMVs that are similar to the AMV Hell series or Narutowned. Like a series of scenes from one or multiple anime set to different music. Anything well done out there?

Also, does anyone know where parody fandubs (i.e. Nescafowlne) can be found online? I wish I could remember the names of some of the ones I saw, but right now I'd just be happy seeing some.

Tetsuwan Atom.

Anyone know of a good place to download the Japanese version of Astroboy? I tried Mininova but the tracker seems to be down. Are there any other 'Torrent sites where I can download this anime subbed because I tried most of the popular ones and had no luck.
