So I've been watching Shakugan no Shana (randomly, I used to link anime titles to AnimeNfo, now I link to Wikipedia; there's very little reason for this change beyond personal preference) again.
God, I love this show.
It's one of those great anime series that manages to appeal to both sides of my character, the uber-butch and the super-feme. Jam packed and filled almost to bursting with action and genuine character moments, cool fights and magic spells, interpersonal relationships and potential romance. What more could anyone ask?
Naturally, an onsen episode.
I watched the series voraciously when it first hit the air; I gobbled up the first season with reckless abandon when it first came out. The only other anime I can ever recall being so excited for when new episodes to hit the fansub sites was Full Moon wo Sagashite, and maybe Ouren High School Host Club. I watched the entire first season, but fell in to an anime slump shortly after and never caught the rest. It wasn't until recently, when someone pointed out my general otagnorance (otaku ignorance, in case you wondered) about the second season of Shakugan no Shana that I got up off my lazy ass and downloaded the remainder of the series. Including the movie, and all the specials. One of which, naturally, is the prerequisite anime onsen episode.
This post, admittedly, doesn't have a lot of genuine point. I'm not going to review an anime that has been out for ages. I'm not even positive I'm going to cross-post this to the anime community, since I haven't posted a review over there in several months. I doubt anyone over there even remembers me. I've been in a relative dry spell since the end of Simoun and Kanon, and though Clannad should have brought me back from over the edge, I had no interest until very recently.
It took Shana to restore my anime love.
That's usually what it's like for me. It's the same with books and television too; when I go through a dry spell of fantasy novels, I pick up the Belgariad/Mallorean series by David Eddings, when I feel a bit disconnected from science-fiction, I put in some Deep Space Nine, Farscape, or Babylon 5, and when I need an anime boost, it's usually Cardcaptor Sakura that sets the world right. It's a bit like a big hug from an old friend, and sitting around for a few hours over coffee catching up. That wonderful sort of friend that no matter how great the distance that had sprung up between you, or how long it had been since you'd seen each other last, the moment you meet again, everything picks back up like no time at all had gone by.
So, that's what I've been up to recently; at the sake of my Warcraft time, I've been reconnecting with an old friend, so she can tell me a new story.
Totally worth it. At least so far. I suppose I'll be able to say for certain after the next twenty four episodes.
Maybe it will get me back in the reviewing (and posting) spirit. Who knows?
Also, I got paid today. First paycheck from the new job. And it's fat cash, baby.
To channel Borat a little, "Veeerrry niiiice..."
