For you pet lovers... [26 Jul 2008|01:14pm]

Not my cat, but my parent's cat had to spend the last few days in hospital. She was refusing to eat and loosing weight and she had a fever. So my parent's took her to the local vet. They xrayed and did some tests and told my parents to take Squeeky to the University Vet in Providence. Turns out she had been eating the scoopable cat box filler! It got stuck in her intestines. They had to surgerically remove it but apparently she is doing much better and my dad is picking her up today.

I think my dad is seriously considering switching to Feline Pine or Yesterday News now. He didn't even realize you could buy something other than scoopable cat litter.

If you are not aware of this, you should be: They DO make cat box fillers out of products other than clay!

Scoopable cat litter is made from strip-mined clay and the dust from it can be harmful to people and pets. As my dad found out the heart-breaking and wallet-busting way, if your cat ingests the scoopable cat box filler, it can have disastorous consquences!

I personally use Feline Pine. It does work like the label says. It does a pretty good job of absorbing the smell. Just be prepared if you have more than one cat, to empty it more often than the reccommended two weeks. It is however, the same price or cheaper than the scoopable cat litter depending on where you buy it.

I have also tried Perfect Litter. This stuff is amazing and great if you have a cat that is prone to urinary issues, because it really does change colors if your cat is dehydrated or stressed giving you a heads up before it gets to the point of no return. (This happened to be what I had in the cat box when my kitty came home from spaying. The first day she was home it turned light pink. In a day or two it was back to normal color). It is however, a bit more expensive and you can only get it through the website.

I have also seen in the store, but not tried myself, Yesterday News made by Purina. It is made from recycled newspapers. It is the same or cheaper than clay-based scoopable litter as well.

I think one of the other great things about these products is they are made from renewable resources. In other words, they are more green than clay-based litter. So for the health of your pet (and the sake of your wallet), give them a shot!

A young Bengal Tiger was found tied up in a wooded area in Dallas near Interstate 35E and Overton Road. It had been shot several times in the chest and face. The animal was only a year old and declawed. Apparently it had become too much to handle. Big Cat Rescue is offering a $5000 reward for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the individuals who are responsible for killing this tiger.

Here is an idea. Companies make things that use nature photos in their marketing materials, right? Well why not have a trust that they donate to for use of that picture? The trust distributes money to the various organizations related to that photo. For the iPhone for example, the money goes to coral reef organizations.
Anyone want to start a non-profit with me to do this? I love nature photography and I think it might work well.
send me a message.

It would at least show companies that use nature to market care SOMEWHAT about the environment. I get a little ticked seeing Apple use a photo of one of the most threatened ecosystems as marketing material for a consumer product. Having them pay a small price to use this photo as a donation to our non-profit would at least show they are concerned enough to spend a few bucks.

Little, nice fluffy persian kitten can become your bestfriend.
This is Casper, he is only 7 weeks old, and he's looking for home and family. He was born without an eye, but still he is playful and tender, and very clever, as any other normal cat.

If u wanna take him leave a comment here. We will contact u!

ocean animals [12 Aug 2007|10:27pm]

Altered Oceans. A well done yet depressing look at the problems with Earths oceans. Videos and photography done by the LA times tells a sobering tale of a ocean in crisis. I knew the problem with plastics was bad back in 94, when I noticed that while crossing the pacific. On our ship moving at 18 knots towards Hawaii, I'd stare into the ocean as we moved over the Pacific blue. I can't remember exactly, but I think it was like every five minutes I'd see a plastic chunk of something floating by. If you could see plastic trash every few minutes, I knew their must be a huge amount of plastic in such a vast ocean. The problem seems to have gotten much worse today in 2007. A sad tale that makes you want to get up and do something to help:

Deer Fishing

Last Saturday morning, my buddy Bo Warren and I were trolling for stripers in the Chesapeake Bay . We were 1½ miles offshore in about 80 feet of water contemplating why the fish weren't biting. We looked back to check our gear and saw something odd in the water. Read more... )

Coydogs [16 Jun 2007|08:12am]

I'm not entirely sure if this is the 'right' place to post; please tell me if it's not. I'm looking to crosspost elsewhere, as well (for anyone who's annoyed by that).

Question: How do you identify a coydog? (coyote/dog)

The dog I particularly care to know about exhibits these traits:

1. Walks in pawprints (back paw goes where the front paw was)

2. Has longer paws, shaped differently than dogs.

3. has most basic colorizations of coyote, particularly from head down.

4. extended from that, has black spot on end of tail (also black 'blotch' that leads a trail down middle of tail)

Name a cheetah cub [26 May 2007|08:35pm]

malaikawolfcat
Wildlife Safari is naming two cheetah cubs by auction on Ebay. This is a great way to support conservation and Wildlife Safari. Wildlife Safari has produced more cheetah cubs than any other facility in the western hemisphere. Wildlife Safari is a non-profit corporation and all bids or donations are tax deductible. There are some extras too, such as getting to meet our ambassador cheetah. Please visit our ebay auction item at:

http://search.ebay.com/cheetah-cub-name_W0QQ_trksidZm37QQfromZR40

Or search for "cheetah cub name" on ebay.

To make this work we need to get the word out to as many people as possible. Please re-post this bulletin.

You can see photos of the cubs at the two links below:
