A Mother's Gift

It all started out with a simple family discussion at the dinner table one lovely evening in mid-December. Leila Lambert asked her eldest son, Adam, if he had a girlfriend. He said no. She asked if he had a boyfriend. He said no. Then she asked if he wanted a boyfriend, to which Adam replied, "Yes, that would be nice."

There it was. The empty warehouse on Waterloo Lane. There was no mistake. He had been driving in circles around this building for the past ten minutes, contemplating whether or not he should enter it. Once in, there was no turning back. He stared grimly at the run-down warehouse. A few broken windows here and there. A dirty yellow light emitting from the building. He could feel Justin's heart beating within. He could hear his cries. He could sense his presence. He was inside. A single bullet shattered yet another window and JC knew he didn't have much time. JC anxiously got out of his car, almost tripping over himself, as he dashed across the street. He knocked furiously for several seconds before the double metal doors finally swung open.

I could see before me a ceiling-high slate tablet covered with prisoners' names, and a goodly number of those names were crossed out. I knew what that meant.

But when would the moment come? Never. JC sighed deeply. He didn't know when they fell apart. The love that they had was like a work of art. He used to see heaven in Justin's eyes. Now angels were falling from his sky. Since when did he stop loving Justin? Since when did Justin become second to his career, second to his music? JC Chasez always had two passions in life. One was music. The other the curly haired blond boy he had befriended seven years ago.

Summary: Sam knows there are a lot of things about his father that he will never understand, or agree with -- the first and foremost being why John Winchester is so unnerved by his son's visions. It's why Sam goes alone to Fitchburg when images of the town's 'welcome' sign flash through his head while he's driving and leave him reeling for hours after. He's only looking for a hunt, but what he finds is about to turn Sam's entire world upside-down, and threaten its very foundations.

One of the jokes of the Eternal Dungeon was that Layle Smith had designed the Seekers' hoods, and that he had done so for the sole purpose of forcing prisoners to focus their attention upon his cold eyes. It was a joke that inevitably brought nervous laughter.
