my best character yet.

Just got off a really boring level where I kept lunging at Akhorahil with my spear, ignoring his eyes that seemed to drain the life out of me, until he collapsed to the floor. Then went after Castamir and got into a pattern where I'd hit and he'd heal himself until eventually his magic failed him. Medusa was near, but I kept encountering her after someone else had beaten me up first, so I'd have to teleport. Then I took out Rogrog, shooting him with acid from far away so that he wouldn't shoot me with acid. Finally I encountered Medusa when I was healthy enough to battle her. I drilled a twisty corridor into the wall with my spells and started at her with my spear when she ventured in, and she eventually fell, too. Interesting time for a boring level. I wanted to go back and pick up whatever Akhorahil had dropped, but it got too dangerous with the hydras that outlived Medusa when they burnt my staff of teleportation and I was low on spell books.

Unlike my last character, I didn't have free action until I'd been hanging around levels 20-22 for quite a while and finally found a ring. It probably made me more prepared for stat gain. Wielding Totila would be nice for the confusion resist, but I do much more damage with Aeglos (maybe that will change when I have more DEX). I figure I won't dive much more at least until my dex is maxed (I haven't found nearly enough dexterity potions). Of course, I want hold life, too, but I haven't found anything that would give it.

3.0.5 is a little old :) Nothing wrong with that, though.

You can post your dump between <pre> </pre> tags to make it more readable.

*ID* your cloak of aman when you can, to see what high resist it gives you.

If you are crunched for home space, you can discard some of the bolt piles, the amulet of infravision and the staff of curing.

I've got a 33 mage at 1800' with the same dungeon books, looking badly for more. Your melee is very decent at least :) Aeglos does sooo much damage - and free action means your dwarven mail gives you nothing besides a small stat boost.

Confusion, blindness, sound, and chaos are the critical high resists that you need.

Thanks for the advice. I've added <pre> ... </pre> tags. I didn't realize that I got a high resist from the cloak (I just got it from one of the uniques; replaced a cloak of stealth). I'll id it when I find a scroll. I figure the bolts might be useful when I encounter Mim (not sure how to kill him; haven't ever made it that far before). I'm trying to enchant one of the piles so I can combine them. I was carrying around a +14,+20 light crossbow of power, but it got destroyed. I'm just carrying the bow around for the CON.

I can't remember where I found Mordenkainen's Escapes; it was a lucky find. Raal's Tome of Destruction isn't that hard to find apparently (I thought it used to have a depth of 5000') Probably easier after level 50, though.

I found the constant recentering in 3.0.6 to be really annoying, so I never upgraded. I wish it was an option. I haven't tried anything newer, though.

If you're talking about "Center map continuously (very slow)", it should have been an option in 3.0.6.

Amrod does more damage than the light xbow, although it's very much a moot point now :) Stacks of arrows will be handy.

(1d6 + 20 + 6) * 3 = 88 average // light xbow of power firing (+x,+6) bolts
(1d4 + 15 + 6) * 4 = 94 average // amrod firing (+x,+6) arrows

You can always teleport mim away and fight him later when you have better dungeon books, but a big stack of arrows and steely resolve in the face of equipment destruction should see you through that fight.
