Basil is currently decked out. He has all high resists save disenchant and shards, plenty of speed, lots of damage, decent (but not 18/200) hp, etc. A few more gear upgrades and he'll be set to take on morgoth. I need to dive and fast :)

At 2250' Basil found a greater vault. I've taken some screen dumps and posted them here. He spotted a long sword (4d5) sitting in the NE corner and made a beeline for it. Yep, my second character to find ringil! Also picked up the Golden Crown of Gondor and a couple rings of speed (+3, +6).

Two undead vaults between then and now have also coughed up a number of tasty artifacts.


The dump contains Basil's dungeon loadout. I need to get more ? *Identify* to see what the new artifacts in his home do. I'd love to max his con, or find another source of esp so I can wear the crown of gondor fulltime. Maybe esp isn't as important as I think it is? I love the situational awareness it gives :x

Well I personally love ESP, but I've never won so ... ;)

I'm currently around 2150' hoping for some resist Nether. Chaos can wait for a bit but Nether bolts are becoming a right PITA.

BTW - when do Greater Vaults tend to start showing up? I reckon one of those cleared I should get enough stuff to cover the resistance holes and dive further.

The dungeon generation code tries to generate up to 50 rooms. There's a depth (1 to 50) / 200 chance of getting an unusual room. An unusual room has a depth / 200 chance of being a "very unusual room". A very unusual room has a 10% chance to be a greater vault.

Then it tries to fit the room in; it's very likely that a greater vault will fail and be discarded if it's not one of the first few rooms to be created.

So generally, the chances of hitting a very unusual room - nest, pit, lesser vault, greater vault - increase as the square of the depth. I've hit two greater vaults with this character already (2250' and 2800') .. and perhaps a dozen greater vaults with my previous high-level characters (50 mage died at 5000', 50 priest died at ~2500').

Pits/nests and lesser vaults are much easier to fit into a level because of their smaller size. Greater vaults are rarer than the other vaults for this reason - I would say I've seen 10-20 pits/nests or lesser vaults for every greater vault.

Note that nothing precludes a greater vault from showing up at 50' if you have a particularly perverse pRNG :)

Ah - right. Makes sense. Still not found and ResNether but am tempted to head down to about 2500' (currently hovering about 2250')

Guess I'll just have to hope one of the countless pits I find actually becomes a G. Vault at some point.
