Today I sat on a bench-seat in Ossington station waiting for the train and playing FFIV on my DS. The woman next to me (white, mid 40s?) stared for a little while and then spoke up.
LADY: What is that?
MK: This? It's my DS.
LADY: What does it do? What does DS stand for?
MK: It means "Dual Screen" because it has two screens (gestures). It plays video games.
LADY: Video...games?
MK: Uh... ...>_> ... Yeah, like this one-- This one is a story game. I fight monsters and save the day.
LADY: (Still doesn't appear to understand what a "video game" is) ...Oh. Hm.
I understand not knowing what a DS is, but most people recognize a video game as a video game, right? They might not know which one it is or what type, but... Wow.
( Links )Three days of huddling in the creepy basement near spiders and unknown lifeforms, attempting to raise our router from the dead with intermittent instructions from my brother, I finally,
finally have wireless again. No more trekking to the reference library for free wi-fi! No more delays on the website work I'm doing! Oh, Wi-fi--- never leave me! I love you too much to ever be parted from you again!
Also I now regret taking that speculative fiction course in University, because whenever I'm home alone I can't be downstairs in the living room without thinking about the clown at midnight. And then I can't leave the couch in case the imaginary clown sees me. Great.
( Fic Recs: SGA )Is it weird that watching Numb3rs just makes me miss NCIS? Numb3rs is like my watered-down NCIS with incest. And more conservative values.
Also, my dinner last night was the most delicious thing ever.
