Miniaturisation, my return and an expansion Tonight I'm pleased to bring you another first on the House of Lord Rosemount: this post was written (indeed currently is being written, though that won't be true when I come to post it) on the bus on the way home from work, courtesy of my shiny new Eee PC. Yes, it arrived, and from the limited amount of use I've had from it so far, it's an excellent little machine – perfect for turning dead moments like these into productive time, and improving the amount of time I have later on for other pursuits. It'll really come into its own when I have longer journeys to make, of course, when I can make use of the neatly sized wide screen and the integrated SD card reader to watch movies and what have you and, on trains that come equipped with it, the wireless broadband. All in all an excellent purchase, particularly given the value of the item on Ebay that amounted to an £80-100 saving off the asking price, for a piece of equipment in nearly perfect condition, including an two-year warranty from July.
The fact that I'm able to post this at all reveals the other piece of exciting news: the internet is back! Not that it ever went away for most people, but readers may recall the disaster in my flat of the damp in the wall, the broken telephone socket and the intransigent landlord who refused to do anything about it. They do say “don't let the bastards get you down”, and on this occasion the bastards reckoned without the good offices of my father, who kindly hot footed it up from Leicestershire early on Saturday morning to fix it for me. This was a bodge job if ever there's been one, involving the soldering together of bits and pieces to a new circuit board he'd brought along, and the investigation, refinement and fixing of the rather arcane set of copper wires that make up the British telephone line. It was, in fact, something of a team effort.
This leaves me able to contemplate my next little project. It's what might be termed a brand extension: I intend to set up a new political blog, hosted on, if I may say, a more mature platform than LiveJournal. I've been thinking about this for a while; I don't want to give too much away at this stage, but I want to write principally about the generational aspects of Conservative Party politics, specifically views on the politics of the Party from the point of view of someone of my generation. I've already come up with the obligatory catchy title, which I'm rather pleased with, and any day now I'm going to open an account and set about building the thing to my liking before it goes properly live. I'll still use this journal for my private thoughts, and one of the things I'll do is re-post some of the better political articles I've written here in the past, hopefully to bring them to a wider audience and to provide a broad base of established content to give the readers I'm hoping to attract something to keep their interest. As for which platform to use, I wonder whether my readers might be of some assistance: I'm leaning towards Wordpress plus a new domain name, unless anyone has any better suggestions?
As for everything else... Still a case of 'more news when I have it', I fear. So with that I'll be off for now, and I hope to return soon with my thoughts on the presidential tickets in the US, and how I see the race unfolding thus far.
