Saturday Productivity [17 May 2008|09:40pm]

harmoniouslife
[ mood | productive ]

Today we painted the spare bedroom. We are graduating the Pea out of her toddler bed into a full size bed. It's too big to go in her current bedroom, so she gets the bigger bedroom instead.

We went on the hunt last weekend for a bed, and found one at Value City Furniture. I'll admit that I've never been in there before and had turned up my nose at the thought of it on more than one occasion, but I am now reformed. We got a very pretty bed for $299, which is made of wood and not particle board. We also got a cedar chest to match and it was only $199. We got a good deal on the mattress set, too. So I am pleased on all accounts.

We painted her new bedroom a pale green. (It's called Sage Tint by Behr.) I think it will be a good color that will grow with her for a while.

Instead of buying a dresser, which would take up too much floor space, I'm going to put some extra storage in the closet. The closet is big enough to hold her clothes plus quite a few toys. I'm also planning to order two of these bookshelves from Target. They'll be for books and toys.

I still don't have a bedspread, but since we leave for the beach in a couple weeks I'll look at the outlet stores while I'm there. I know there's one linens outlet that sells linens by the pound, and I've heard it's a great place for bargains.

Maybe by the time I get her new bedroom put together we'll have replaced our digital camera and I can post pictures.

Gratuitous poll time! [18 May 2008|02:34am]

ze_pink_lady
Breaking my exile to harrass y'all with more polling again, although this time it's thankfully far shorter and in handy ticky/text box form!

Once again, the obligatory tl;dr small print:
I'm doing an audience and research project on Fandom and would really appreciate it if you could share some of your fandom experiences with me by filling out this little poll for me.

Obviously because this is in the name of academic research, no personal or identifying information will be used or stored in the actual essay, no real names will be used and no contact details will be included; your privacy and integrity is my top priority and won't be compromised in any way. With that said, all questions are optional, but the more accurate and honest your answers are, the better and more useful my results will be, and as I'm hoping for an A, I'm hoping y'all will be able to help me out with that a little bit. Anon commenting is on and all comments will be screened, so if you have any questions or have anything else you'd like to add, you can do so privately and I'd appreciate any feedback you can give me. Also, if you know anyone else who likes filling in inane forms and might not see this, I'd be really grateful if you could point them in this direction.

As always, feel free to expand on any answers in the comments, or to email me any questions/answers at thundergodess @ googlemail. com, and extra pimpage would be most appreciated! Thanks, y'all. <3

How did you first hear about Supernatural? (Recommended by a friend/saw ad/read article in TV Guide/thought the boys were hot in a Flaunt photoshoot etc - if you heard from a magazine or other channel, please mention which)

How many people have you personally introduced to Supernatural (give me a ballpark estimate if you can't remember for sure)

What have you personally done to promote Supernatural or raise awareness of the show, if anything?

If you haven't done anything, why not, and do you plan to in the future?

What specific merchandise would you like to see from the show and how much would you be willing to pay for it? (E.g. action figures, $25)

Hypothetically, if the CW cancelled Supernatural, what would you do to get it back on the air? (Keep it clean and legal, folks)

The tooth fairies are on strike. They're not giving up any money, which means I can keep all my baby teeth plus my wisdom tooth.

But I found out where they were staying. Shhhh. Mustn't disturb the fairies.

Golly, they have an attic!

Mm. Almost forgot I had stuffed a few of these scrumptious little cracker packs into my purse before leaving work on Monday. One of our regular patients gives us Asian treats every time he shows. It's great.

He doesn't even say a word to us, just thrusts a box of crackers, cookies or pastries at us, waves and leaves. The best relationship I've personally had with a patient so far. Maybe even a man.

Ugg, I hate posting camera phone pictures when I own a brand new Sony Cybershot :( Crystal's old Sony Something (I simply don't have the heart to remove her Hello Kitty sticker applications!) devours full battery power in minutes, which I will only abuse with the rechargeable batteries I lost about a month ago.

I went into hastings today to buy another Simpsons comic book. Couldn't find any. So I hang around the game area. Played some guitar hero for the Wii. Tried to find a cheap game to buy. Then guess what I see? House of the dead 2 and 3, for the Wii! Only $29.99 brand new too! I also found a hand gun made by a third party company. The Wii remote fits into the top of it just like the Wii zapper, except you don't have to hold an odd looking thing.

I wish I could say it's been easy but it hasn't been. It's difficult to get the remote calibrated. You have to stand far away to do so. At least, I had to. I kept getting a message that I wasn't aiming the remote at the screen when I was. I've calibrated it several times, and only now am I able to play semi comfortably.

Pulling the gun too far down or too far up to reload isn't necessary, which is a good thing. You don't have to move way to the left or way to the right, or way up and down to shoot a target in any of those areas either. Those are good things, but it took me a lot of calibrating and a lot of losing to get to that point. Not so easy like the XBOX version.

Still, at $29.99 brand new it's a steal. And if I think it's a good price, you will too. After all, you know how I feel about paying full price for a new game right? You don't have to buy a gun either. In fact, I recommend anyone that plays this game to use the remote first. Calibrate it until you can get it react to your movements. When you're comfortable, then use one of the guns.

I personally am glad this game is out for a system that I have. It's been one of my favorites. Now I don't have to pump quarters into the arcade anymore. Alas, having it at home means more valuable study time gone. Damn me!

I think DON! will love it. Won'tcha dude?

One of the best songs ever written: Юрий Лоза [17 May 2008|07:21pm]

agloriousday

Rough translation:

On a small raft through storms, rain and thunderstorms,
Having (taken) just dreams and daydreams and child wish,
I will quietly float away as midnight sneaks into my home
With rhymes, it will remind me of the world I live in

Well, let it be a difficult path
Weighing me down, the load of the past mistakes.
But my raft, woven from songs and words
In spite all my woes, is not so bad at all.

I do not run from those who foretell me woes.
It's (fuller) and easier for them on the solid shore.
They are not destined to understand what has suddenly happened to me,
What called me away, what will put me at ease.

Well, let it be a difficult path
Weighing me down, the load of the past mistakes.
But my raft, woven from songs and words
In spite all my woes, is not so bad at all.

I will snap the thread to the past, and then come what may.
From monotonous routines I will quietly swim away
I will quietly float away as midnight sneaks into my home
A world full of new colors, perhaps I will find there.

Well, let it be a difficult path
Weighing me down, the load of the past mistakes.
But my raft, woven from songs and words
In spite all my woes, is not so bad at all.

Have finally carried out that long threatened flist cut I've been flapping around about and now feel like a bitch. Mostly just reading journals I friended back without checking and folks that haven't posted or commented in a while, or with names I don't recognise and can't remember why you're here. If you're lurkers who are only interested in the fic, that shouldn't be a problem since 99.9% of my journal is unlocked anyway and will remain that way, but I know how sucky/ego destroying it can sometimes feel to have someone friended who has defriended you or doesn't friend you back, so I'll totally understand if any of y'all want to cut me loose too. For what it's worth, it's nothing personal for ANYONE, but I'm already using filters and I tend to miss stuff that some of my BFFs post because of the sheer volume of stuff on the flist, so it was a necessary evil. :(

I may make more cuts, especially if our interests have diverged, but for now I think that'll do. But if you think I've defriended in error or are absolutely intent on seeing the .01% of stuff I do occasionally flock, feel free to comment and tell me I suck. And if you're new or have recently added me, welcome! Please direct yourself to my profile for my friending policy if you only added me because you wanted to be added back, because I assume everyone who friends me is only in it for the porn, so I've quit automatically adding back these days - yes, I have very low self esteem, but it serves me well.

Have also gone under self-imposed LJ exile until Monday when all my coursework has to be handed in (though saying this, I'm still going to poll the hell out of y'all again in a couple hours), so if you need to reach me, email is the best bet, and I'll respond to all your comments that I haven't gotten around to yet on Monday night. I'm still reeling from my birthday, which definitely ranks up there in the top 3 best ever right now, and that's thanks in part to a lot of you who were so generous and made me feel so loved. I don't know how I lucked out getting to know y'all, but I adore you and shall reward you with porn when all my work is done - I know a fair few of you probably want to club me to death over the lack of BBAU updates, so I'll have to get to work on that, when I'm finally ready to handle the angst overload of that PLUS the finale. I may also have a cute!Dean/Jason Teague epic in the works that I FINALLY have a bunny for and have long been promising [info]moment_of_sen and [info]keepaofthecheez (for about two years now), but it's itching in the back of my mind, so hopefully I'll be able to get it out soonish.

Also also, am VERY entirely pissed off, because I entered for tickets for the American Idol tapings before Creation LA, since me and my daddy are lameass fans of it, but since they never emailed me back I thought it was a lost cause. Which of course means that they emailed me two days ago to tell me I got tickets for the fucking FINALE, either the performances OR the live results, and that I could've also gone to a backstage party with the finalists afterward. Those who know my potty mouth would still have been appalled to hear how much I swore. They're taping Tues and Weds, and although I was nutty enough to consider grabbing a red-eye to LA on Monday night after my deadline, that would indeed destroy any chance I have for Eyecon2, and my girls are more important than the Davids and mocking Simon Cowell. WOE, cruel fate, why must you THWART ME?! It's like the time I couldn't go to the Fantastic 4 premiere for MTV because I was in Italy. THE UNIVERSE MOCKS ME AND MY LOVE OF TRASHY TV AND FILM.

I have also discovered I can no longer listen to Steve Carlson's music without feeling sordid and vaguely queasy. Thanks a lot, Bex. ¬¬

RIGHT, back to work. ;_; My roomie is having not-quiet-enough sexytime with her boyfriend above me, which is entirely not conducive to working. BAH.

Anyway, sorry I've been MIA the past few days. I just haven't felt like posting or replying to comments (yes, I've seen them and I really appreciated them, I'm just far too lazy to do anything about replying to them). Eh.

Today is awesome because I got accepted to Honours Algebra II. They're making two sections though, so it's not particularly impressive or anything. Whatever.

Carry on Wayward Son [17 May 2008|02:13pm]

[ mood | mellow ]

It's another scorcher, ergo I will not be leaving the house until after dark.

Bullets on a lazy Saturday:

  • I signed up for the Writer's Swap. Doit, doit, doit.

  • Most recent purchase at Barnes & Noble: The Men Who Stare at Goats

  • A preview of JC's next tour: In My Dreams

  • I would love to make these Shrimp Cakes. Now if someone would just go to the market for me. . . .

  • Two weeks until the season finale of Lost. I'm completely hooked again and more than happy to admit it. If there is one show that benefitted from the shortened season/writers' strike, this is it. Instead of bread crumbs, we've gotten bombs. It's been a spectacular couple of weeks which makes me even more excited for Fringe, that is aside from the casting of Joshua Jackson.

  • My new favorite web site: Impulse shopping heaven

And yes, I did watch the final episode of Supernatural. Why do you ask?
