I'm mourning Erick myself; he was a friend to me as well as a fellow gamer, and I miss him deeply. However, I should really post this now that we've confirmed it, and in a way the timing is appropriate because he valued the Amber community so highly:
The dates for Ambercon US 2009 will be April 16-19, 2009, at the Embassy Suites Livonia. (We'll have the dates for 2010 shortly; yes, we're going to start working two years out.)
This will be the 20th Ambercon, and we're looking for ideas to commemorate both the anniversary and Erick, without whom none of this would have happened. Please feel free to email me; even ideas that require a bit of money are possible.
More details later, but I wanted to get the dates out there so people can start planning. If you're on other Amber-related lists or communities that I don't reach, please pass this on to them (and let me know about them).

A snow day! I can use this to catch up on my prep for the con! Not that I was really behind, but I was certainly feeling the pressure of the deadline coming up pretty quick.
And while I've got your attention, we have one last committee meeting before the convention. We call it the "Welcome Pack Stuffing". This is where we put all the name badges, player and GM info, and important stuff like that, into the nifty page protectors. This takes a decent amount of time, but the more hands to help, the quicker it can be finished. So, if you are local to S.E. Lower MI, near Ann Arbor to be more specific, and have some free time this Friday, March 7th around 7 P.M. and would like to help with Ambercon in some way, this would be an ideal place to start. Hi Folks!
Deadlines, deadlines, deadlines!
Tomorrow, Friday February 8, is the deadline for game selections and t-shirt orders!
Monday, February 11 is the deadline for making your reservations with the hotel, Embassy Suites! If you don't make reservations by that date, you will have to pay their full rates, and we won't get credit for our group discount.
Then . . . the one everybody is waiting for, Thursday, February 14 is the day we are hoping to get the game schedules out!
And finally, at least for today, Monday, March 3 is the deadline for the Ambercon 2008 Graphic Design Contest.

There have been three new games added to the Ambercon game book since it went online, in slots 1, 2 and 3. Details about these games can be found on the Errata page under "Games Added." If you have already submitted your game selections and are interested in signing up for one of these games, let us know what order your slot choices should now be in, and if you need to rearrange your slot priorities.
Stephen Acton's "Welcome Home?" game in slot 2 and "Objects of Obsession" game in slot 6 have been canceled. If you've already submitted your game selections, and you signed up for one of these games, let me know if you would like to substitute anything in their place, or change your slot priorities.
Don't forget that the Ambercon game selection deadline is this Friday, February 8 at 11:59pm PST for online submissions, and by 5pm for mail submissions. This is a hard deadline - meaning we have to have received selections by this date, even those that were sent in by postal mail. This is because we schedule the games on Saturday, February 9. Game selections received after the 8th will be scheduled into whatever games are still open at that point. If you are having problems submitting your selections, please let us know. If you haven't paid yet, don't forget you will need to send us your payment via PayPal or check before you can schedule your games. Once we receive your payment, you should be able to use the online game selection form.
The deadline for ordering t-shirts is also February 8. If you planned to order a t-shirt and haven't yet, you have until then to place your order.
The deadline for reserving a hotel room at the Ambercon rates is February 11, one week from today. So if you haven't reserved your room yet, be sure to do so as soon as possible (our group code is AMB).

The gamebook and game selection forms are now online on the Ambercon web page. Please select your games by February 8. We will be scheduling early on February 9, and if your picks are not in you will not be scheduled with the initial group, and thus will have far fewer available games to choose from.
If this is your first Ambercon, or your first one in a while, there is a page that explains how game selection works. If you still have questions after reading it, let us know.
Finally, if we haven't received your registration payment yet, you will not be able to submit your selections. If you have sent in your payment but are unable to submit your selections, please contact us.
Other deadlines of note:
The hotel reservation deadline is February 11, or whenever our room block fills up, whichever is sooner, so don't forget to get your reservations in (our group code is AMB)!

Yikes!
I just got an email from our hotel contact. She said we only have 18 rooms booked up to this point! Folks, the deadline for registering with the hotel is February 11th. That's only two weeks away! I don't want to panic, but last year at this time, we had close to 80% of our required rooms booked. Today, it's only 50%. I know we will meet our numbers requirement for the hotel contract based on the con registration, the part that I'm worried about is the timing. So please heed this reminder, book your hotel room using our group code: AMB by Monday, February 11th.

We could still use 2-3 games in slot 3, and one more in slot 6. So if you were thinking of running something, we'd appreciate the help in those slots. Games can be submitted online via the Ambercon web site.

Due to a massive game (15 players) moving from slot 3 to slot 4, slot 4 is now probably OK but slot 3 is now in as bad shape as slot 6, except it has less closed games. So, if you haven't submitted your games yet, please run in slot 3 or 6! |

The Ambercon web server was down due to a hardware failure. It seems to be back up for the moment, but they may be still working on it, so it's possible it will go down again. So if you've been putting off registering, now may be the time. Remember, the registration deadline is this Sunday, January 27.
For those who are wondering about the game book status, we still need games for slots 3, 4 and 6. Slots 3 and 4 need one or two more games. Slot 6 needs 2-4 more games (depending on their size), especially because of the overwhelming number of closed games in this slot. Right now, we have 12 games for slots 1 and 2, 10 games for slots 3, 4 and 6, 11 games for slots 5 and 7 and 9 games for slot 8. Despite having the same number of games, slot 6 is worse off than 3 and 4 because the games are somewhat smaller, and 5 of those 10 are closed. At this point, if we don't get any more games, I'm going to have to move a game from slot 7 to 6, and another from slot 1 to 8, so I can move a slot 8 game to 6. Which will balance things out somewhat, but I'd rather not reduce the games in 7 if I can help it.
