2008 Shirt DesignHi all!

The AmberCon NW site is open for registration for this year's convention.

For the 13th year, we are returning to the gorgeous and hospitable McMenamin's Edgefield Bed and Breakfast Resort in Troutdale, Oregon, just 30 minutes outside Portland and 15 minutes from the Portland International Airport (PDX).

There are many different room styles and rates at the Edgefield, so register soon! The most popular types sell out quickly.

I am looking forward to seeing all the new and returning faces this year!

AmberCon Schedules Sent! [Mar. 24th, 2009|06:35 pm]

simonepdx
Hi everyone!

I have sent out the AmberCon schedule to each and every registered attendee. If have not received one, please check your spam filters, and then email me at the ambercon address:  simone at ambercon dot com

The GMs should have received their drafts of their player lists yesterday; we made a few corrections based on feedback from them, so today's lists should be the real deal!

I am very much looking forward to the convention!

ACUS 2009 Game Book Open! [Mar. 11th, 2009|04:23 pm]

simonepdx
Hi everyone!

This is the message we have all been waiting for :-)

[If you are registered for the convention, you should have received a copy of this message by email. If you did not, please check your spam filters for email from simone at ambercon.com and TELL US if you did not receive it.]

The AmberCon 2009 Gamebook is open for you to Select Games! Both of those are clickable options along the top of the AmberCon XX website at http://www.ambercon.com
Game selection closes at Midnight on Monday, March 16.

Note that in order to submit your game selections you will have to log in, or create a login, if you haven't already.

We are officially opening the site now, at about 7 pm Eastern time / 4 pm Pacific. Registrations received by 9 am Eastern / 6 am Pacific will count as "equal firsts" for scheduling purposes. If this proves too long an opening time... well... we might break out some dice ;-)

Games will be filled on a first come, first served basis - moderated so that everyone will have at least one first-choice game in their schedule. Please register for games as soon as possible. There is a selfish reason and an organizer's reason for doing this. The selfish reason is so that you get into the games you want; the reason the schedulers care is so they can make and confirm your schedules in time for you to communicate with your GMs before people start traveling on the week of the convention. Anyone who has not registered for games by March 16, 2009 will be assigned games at random.

You should receive your schedules on Monday, March 23rd.

The work of many, many incredible volunteer GM's went into this incredible full schedule of events, and we owe huge thanks to Nathan Bardsley for taking his first stab at schedule organizing and to Edwin Voskamp for wrangling the new site and the schedule into forms that will be easy to use and adapt for AmberCon committees for years to come. THANK YOU ALL!

Let the games begin...

ACUS Game Book Delay [Mar. 8th, 2009|10:44 pm]
jmsaul
Hi, all -- I am sorry to report that we've had some issues with getting the Game Book ready to go up on the site.

At this point, you should see it sometime tomorrow.  We understand that ACUS attendees live in a range of time zones, so we will pick a time which will allow us to have an "equal first" range that doesn't disadvantage anyone, whether they live in PST, EST, BST, or somewhere in between.  We also understand that some people have access during the work day, and some don't.

Thank you for your patience, and please stay tuned.  You'll hear from me or Simone tomorrow.

ACUS - Bad news, Good news [Mar. 6th, 2009|09:31 pm]

simonepdx
The bad news is, of course, that due to technical difficulties the game book publication is now delayed, probably until tomorrow (Saturday) 3 p.m. Eastern / noon Pacific time. We will be sending email to all registered members as soon as it officially opens.

The good news is, we did get some games to cover the lack in Slot 7, so we have a lovely full schedule :-)

I CAN'T WAIT!!!!! AGHHHHH!!!!!

Ahem.

ACUS game selection details [Mar. 6th, 2009|09:17 am]

simonepdx

Just wanted to let everyone whose horses are straining at the starting gate, everyone who puts in their registrations by noon Eastern / 9 a.m. Pacific tomorrow (Saturday) will have "equal first" standing in game registration. The book should open sometime tonight, or at least by midnight.

Slot 7? We still need a game.

ACUS: One more game needed! [Mar. 5th, 2009|09:56 pm]

simonepdx
[mood | excited]

We need one game for Slot 7, that's Sunday daytime, to make a complete, rounded schedule for ACUS and cover all the folks who have registered to attend!

If any of you out there have a thought for a Slot 7 game, please submit it ASAP through the site, www.ambercon.com

Meanwhile... get ready! The game book opens for selections tomorrow night at midnight, Pacific time! (If it opens before that, you are welcome to use it, but all submissions before that will be counted as equal first.)

DRAFT ACUS schedule for GM Review [Mar. 2nd, 2009|10:36 am]

simonepdx

Hello!

If you are a GM for AmberCon US, you should have received a copy of this by email. If you did not, please check your spam filters for mail from simone at ambercon.com, and then contact us so we can be sure you receive future mailings!

Below is the DRAFT schedule for AmberCon US. We are seeking GM feedback on this schedule by no later than tomorrow night, that's Tuesday, March 3, so that we can rejig things and publish the game book for player registration on Friday night, March 6th. Please look the schedule over for conflicts, errors and omissions.

There are still some slots that are short of games, and there are three slots that probably have an excess of games.

If you are a GM in Slots 1, 4, or 8, and your game is not a "returning player" game, and you would be willing to run it in Slot 2, 3 or 5, PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP!  (Note the relative lengths of the slots when deciding this – and be aware that you can combine slots 2 and 3, or start late in slot 5 if that helps.) Depending on how many volunteers we get, we may not need to move you, but right now there will be cancellations in Slots 1, 4 and 8, and we will be unlikely to accommodate all players in Slots 2, 3 and 5.

Similarly, if you have an additional short game you can run in 2, 3, or 5, let us know! We would rather take new games from people running 2 or fewer games. We are also soliciting those folks who have not yet signed up to run anything.

Thank you all SO MUCH for all these games and for all your hard work and assistance. There wouldn't be an AmberCon without you! I'm really looking forward to GMing and playing once again at the 20th!!!! Annual AmberCon!

Last day to register for Ambercon 2009! [Feb. 27th, 2009|05:24 pm]

a2macgeek
[mood | hungry]
[music |Full of Grace - Sarah McLachlan]

From the Con Chair:

This is, officially, the last day to register for Ambercon 20 -- so if you're planning to attend but have been holding off, it's time to go to the website:

http://www.ambercon.com

Ambercon will be April 16-19, 2009, at the Embassy Suites Livonia (our usual hotel, about 20 minutes from Detroit Metro Airport, DTW). In case you didn't know, we now have rates based on how many days you're attending, so it now makes sense to attend even if you can only make it for part of the con.

If you've already registered, I apologize for this unnecessary email. Consider it a reminder that you will soon be able to go to the website and register for games!

Hope to see you there!

For game-book development purposes, it is also helpful to us if you can register as soon as possible.

We're looking forward to seeing everyone!

Games Still Needed, and Game Book Preview Coming Soon! [Feb. 21st, 2009|12:24 pm]

simonepdx
Hi all AmberCon US folks!

Nathan has worked through the first draft of the game book. We are waiting for clarifications from a few GMs, but it looks like we need the following additional games:
  •     Slot 1: 1 game
  •     Slot 2: 2 games
  •     Slot 3: 1 game
  •     Slot 4: 1 game
  •     Slot 5: 1 game
  •     Slot 6: 3 games
  •     Slot 7: 1 game
  •     Slot 8: 1 game
It would also be helpful if you could let us know if there is a slot that you now know you are going to skip but did know when you submitted your member registration form.

We also will be publishing the preview version of the game book for GMs' final review on February 27th, preparatory to opening for registration on March 6th!

Please use the Submit a Game form at www.ambercon.com if you have an idea you've been kicking around!

Okay, it's late Wednesday night, and with the three games I plan to submit we now have 42 games -- just under half of what we need to run the con! I hope we see quite a few tomorrow.

You can submit your games directly on the website at http://www.ambercon.com

Remember, the deadline is Friday...

Sell me on ACUS 2009? [Jan. 30th, 2009|03:23 pm]

mtfierce
Seriously, I want to go, but I need to be able to convince my husband that this is the time! Anything special going on this year that makes it "all that" that going in 2010 won't be a better choice? Anyone showing up that I need to meet? Any games so sparkly I'll have to put my shades on as soon as I reach the airport? Anyone looking for a roommate who does admittedly snore, but always cleans up the sink (and everything else) after using it?

(Plus, I provide games with my membership. New games. Different games. Games like I've never GM'd before, unless you mean the fun ones.)

ACUS Game Submission Deadline 1 WEEK AWAY! [Jan. 30th, 2009|01:20 pm]

simonepdx
Hi all,

Just a quick reminder that the game submission deadline is Friday, February 6. That's 1 week from today!

The deadline is more "hard" than usual, because I will be helping a new person--wunder-volunteer Nathan B.!--learn the game book creation task. We have 24 games out of about 96 needed, so we have a looooong way to go.

Please help me--and Nathan!--avoid panic. Submit today!

a2macgeek
The deadline to submit games for AmberCon US '09 is February 6!

If past attendance numbers hold true, we will need a minimum of 12 games for each of the eight slots of the convention. The game submission form is up on the website, http://www.ambercon.com under "Submit a Game."

I'm also looking for a couple of people to train to do the AmberCon US gamebook with me this year and be able to take it over next year, so if you have an interest in learning about that piece of the convention and have some significant time to volunteer, please let me know!

All the best,
