How do I add a reflection?
Hey everyone. I'm working on something in photoshop, and I've been able to do everything on my own up till now, but now I'm stuck. I'd like to get some kind of reflection on the glass sphere.

Can anyone help me with this? I would be really thankful.

I'm not sure if this is what you are asking for...

I would take the image that you want to use for the reflection and spherize, gaussian blur and then reduce the opacity to make it look like it is on the surface of the glass.

Do you want just shine on the globe to show that it's glass or do you want a reflection of something nearby? I mean, since there's not a lot in the room, I think you can get away with just a highlight on there, which I personally would just paint on by hand, but that's because I do everything by hand, even in Photoshop, haha XDDD I think if you tried to put a reflection of an actual object in there, to be honest, it would distract from the stuff inside the globe. Less is more, they say =D

I would want just the highlights to show it's glass. I've thought of doing it by hand, but I don't really know how to make it look realistic. If it doesn't work out, I might still put on a reflection of something simple.

Well, first you have to decide where the light source is and then go from there. I'd maybe experiment with brushes to figure out which is the best, but it would kind of depend on what kind of light you choose for it to be, I think.

I just got a burst of inspiration this morning in my bed. I'm gonna try some things, and then with all the tips and tricks from you guys, I think I should be able to handle it. *crosses fingers* Thanks a lot!

I would use the 'lightening tool' in a little area at the top [or where you have the light source and would normal have 'hi-lights']

Do you mean the dodge tool? Hmm yes yes, I'll try that. Thanks!

The paint shop pro [which is now Corel Paint] has both the "dodge tool" and the "lightening tool" [I prefer using the lightening tool for hi-lights since it gives better pressure control than with the dodge tool].. I think the dodge tool whitens the area too much, so I hardly ever use that one. [My other favourite tool is the 'Burn tool' which I use to darken areas for shadows.]

Oh yeah, I have paintshop pro, but I forgot all the different tools. But I'll check it out. Thanks a lot! ^_^

Are you trying to have this image reflect off the side of your sphere, or is the image supposed to be inside the sphere?

For reflecting on the sphere you should be able to achieve good results by adding the image on the sphere with a new layer. Then adjust the opacity of the layer down to around 25% or so. That should create a reflection type effect.

If you want it to appear inside the sphere, duplicate the image of the sphere to a new layer. Then create a new layer between the now two layers and add the image there. Again play around with the opacity between the top two layers and see what kind of effect you get.

The boy has to be inside the sphere. What you're suggesting would be good, but the problem is that there already is something in the original sphere, an angel, so if I would duplicate the image of the sphere, and then place it on top, the angel would be there too. I just want the impression of glass.
