I know I have been so shit with getting this properly updated.

After a nice rest in Sitges, where I should be this time tomorrow, for a week. I can come back and tell everyone what's been going on with work and life etc.

So, yes, I am logging off now to go to bed as I have to be up TOO early in the morning tomorrow (I don't think I have ever gotten out of a bed at 5am on a Sunday before) and then I head off to the airport.

See you all in a week - hopefully sporting a nice tan!

I condone the following message:

Raven Salinas, James "JR" Roman, and his mother Georgina Roman are absolutely the most vile unbelievably wretched people I've come across in my life. JR is my sister's babydaddy, and from the day my sister found out she was pregnant has been nothing but a shitbag. I have such little respect for them and the things they do that if someone were to douse them in acid I wouldn't give two shits.

They're the reason Carissa is in jail: provoking her, hounding her, withholding her given right to see her child even when she's doing everything she can to make her own life better for his sake-- something they've resoundingly decided not to do themselves, selling and using drugs, being investigated for suspicion of pedophilia, just generally being utterly insane neglectful cretins. They're the reason her life is hell (not the only reason, but they're definitely not making things better). They're sycophants, and incredibly terrible role models for the various children JR has fathered and subsequently fucked up.

I've known vile people in my life, but this trio takes the cake. Let this shit go, and let my sister see her fucking son without jumping through your goddamned megalomaniac hoops all the time. I honest to Og hope all the children get taken away from you all, and you're shown for exactly what you are-- wretched people unfit for common society.

I hope you all die.

PAFMA: Putting America First My Ass

Thu Sep 04, 2008 at 03:33:28 PM PDT

Since PUMA has been put to rest by events last week in Denver, I'd thought we should start a new Democratic group: PAFMA: Putting America First My Ass.

While PAFMA acknowledges and honors the service to his country and incredible hardships endured by Lt. Commander John McCain, we are committed to pointing out instances where Senator McCain and Candidate McCain have done anything but the country first.

Now, I am an inferior diarist compared to many of the outstanding and incredibly well researched diaries posted here on a regular basis, and by no means do I have the time or knowledge to compile a complete list of all the times Candidate McCain has arguably failed to put America first. I'll just get the ball rolling, and I hope others can chime in on the comments, and we can build an impressive list!

The dream scenario would be to build an improved list and keep it up until election day (and maybe a Straight Talk Debunker and Flip-Flop Tracker diaries as well!). But all three are probably a pipe dream.

Anyway, here goes:

Dammit.. I'm Calling Bullshit

The Reich Right is screaming about families should be off-limits in political campaigns.

Well, Fine. Then please explain why for the last decade plus, YOU, those on the Right, have made MY family a Campaign Issue.

I think all the GLBT families in the country would like an answer to that question.

Oh yeah, One more thing... Until we're off the table, YOU'RE ON THE TABLE.

Well, I went back to O'Reily's to get the parts I ordered yesterday. Apparently they ONLY hire attractive Irish men, although I did have a bit of a problem with this guy. You know how you see a big husky bear, and then he opens his mouth and a fairly soft high-pitched voice comes out? Yeah, that was the guy that helped me today. Still REALLY cute though. Anyway, this weekend should be pretty good. When I get up tomorrow me and Dad are gonna get to work on the car, then Mom and my Grandma are gonna take me clothes shopping for my birthday. Then Sunday will be a family get-together for my afore-mentioned birthday.

Art Space: Bargain Artist

Commercial artist, Abstract Performance? For $5, I can be an artist. From DCist:

We've been hearing about ArtSpace in Shaw for some time, and on August 13 we stopped by during one of their open studios, which go on every Monday. The nonprofit offers classes and studio time to local adults.

Located in the basement of the New Community Church at 614 S Street NW, ArtSpace has one full time staffer, Kristian Whipple, and is largely volunteer driven. Whipple and volunteers offer numerous classes (pottery, drawing, photography, weaving, Photoshop, Flickr, and others) for only $5, and volunteers and students are able to make use of an open studio on Mondays.

Whipple, who previously worked in education, said ArtSpace's mission was to "make art accessible to the masses," and pottery teacher Hope Hodges, who was there during the open studio, called it "incredibly valuable." ArtSpace was "designed to serve the people who live and have lived in Shaw," Whipple said. He estimated that 75 percent of the people using the space came from within a 15 block radius.

Whipple said classes are once a week for about 8 weeks and are for students of all skill levels. He said 3 to 4 students and volunteers usually come to open studio, which is on a first come-first served basis. The group asks for $5 or some food for people at open studio. When we visited, three other people were there using the loom, darkroom, and so on.
The space also featured a number of photographs by students and volunteers on the walls, many for sale or already sold. ArtSpace encourages students to sell their work, and takes a 20 percent commission from sales with the remaining 80 percent going to the artist. The group regularly holds shows of student and volunteer work and has an online gallery. The group also has an "art bank" where offices can lease art to hang on their walls, a pretty neat idea.

Started in 1999 by the church, Whipple became a full time staffer last year and worked to "solidify" the space — painting, wiring, and so on. As a registered non-profit, the group gets its funding from a variety of sources, including grants, donations, and the D.C. Arts and Humanities Commission. The group also works with the New Community Church and the church's youth program.

ArtSpace is "very small, but with an ambitious entrepreneurial spirit," Whipple said. He's always looking for more volunteers and hopes to do more community outreach in Shaw.

ArtSpace is at 614 S Street NW, right off the Shaw Metro.

If I don't stay away / will she come here again / for my wish of only one last kiss

So my sister is in jail. Has been since last saturday. When do I find out? Tonight. I didn't even hear the whole message as to why because my phone decided to shut itself off.

Also, my paycheck was like 80 bucks less than I was expecting.

Jeremy is irritated at life.

Also, if anyone in the Seattle/Tacoma areas are aware of any places hiring let a brother know. I need a full time real-life job, not retail or something equally blah (nothing against [info]badrobot86, I'm talking Walgreen's status)

Hopefully I can make it in to work tomorrow. If not--another 3 day weekend baby!!! ^.^v

Quotes for the Week

Politics is not a picture on a wall or a television sitcom that you can decide you don't much care for.

I believe in practicing prudence at least once every two or three years.

It's hard to argue against cynics - they always sound smarter than optimists because they have so much evidence on their side.

Naturally, when it comes to voting, we in Texas are accustomed to discerning that fine hair's-breadth worth of difference that makes one hopeless dipstick slightly less awful than the other. But it does raise the question: Why bother?

As they say around the Texas Legislature, if you can't drink their whiskey, screw their women, take their money, and vote against 'em anyway, you don't belong in office.

Next time I tell you someone from Texas should not be president of the United States, please pay attention.

Palin Helps Obama Raise $10mln in One Day

From The New York Times blog, The Caucus:

Palin Good for the Democrats, Too

Updated | 8:40 p.m. Jeff Zeleny reports: By Thursday evening, the fund-raising tally had reached $10 million, according to Jen Psaki, an Obama spokeswoman, who called it a one-day record.

ST. PAUL — Turns out Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s speech did not just electrify the Republican faithful inside the Xcel Energy Center Wednesday night.

Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign is reporting that it has taken in $8 million over the Internet since Mrs. Palin’s speech, in which she tore into Mr. Obama.

By Thursday afternoon, more than 130,000 donors had kicked in, and the Obama campaign is on pace to collect $10 million by the time Senator John McCain takes the stage tonight.

Remember, the McCain campaign said it took in $10 million by mail and Internet right after Mrs. Palin made her debut as Mr. McCain’s running-mate last Friday.

Hoping to continue the momentum and “livin’ on a prayer,” Mr. Obama will be collecting cash at Jon Bon Jovi’s home on Friday in an exclusive dinner where the entrance fee is $30,800 a person.

[info]dogemperor has the latest on the Palin/Dominionist/Joel's Army connections:
Yup, got a whole new mess of stuff--including investigations of Wasilla Bible Church (both it and its parent turn out to be practically Focus on the Family fronts), revelations of Palin using at least $25,000 of Alaskan taxpayer's money to fund a project at one of her Assemblies churches, the possibility she's dual-campusing at WBC and Juneau Christian Center, and the *real* poop on the Joel's Army connections with "Master's Commission".

DAMN YOU MYSPACE FOR GETTING ME ADDICTED TO YOU MOBSTERS APP!!!

So, I went to O'Reily Autoparts after work to get some thing(belt, tensioner, brake pads, and rotor) and can you imagine my surprise when I was assisted by the single hottest Irish guy I've ever seen......well, second hottest, [info]iompair takes the number 1 spot. Anyway, I got the belt, but wouldn't you know it, they had to order the other 3 things. And since the belt cost me $66, I'm assuming the other 3 will basically cost me a kidney and 7 pounds of sperm.

One year ago today...

...I left permanent employment, to follow a hunch that I might be a good teacher.

It's been a year of short term contracts, uncertainty about paying each months rent and a lot of travelling to get the experience.

But 12 months on, and I think I can confidently say I haven't regretted my decision for one single moment.

I'm a better teacher, I get consistent good feedback from students, and I love every minute I'm teaching in the classroom.

I still haven't got a permanent job - but what the hey! I'm getting a million times more job satisfaction.

hooray and boo

[info]indiecowboy  made it back from Arizona safely last night. He said there was some pretty rough turbulance that made him worry a few times but his plane landed on time and he walked in the front door right at 10pm.  He had a good visit with his grandpa and did some sight-seeing and souvanier buying.  But then he couldn't get to sleep 'cause he was on Mountain Time, poor guy.

In bad news the hits to my childhood just keep coming.  Bill Melendez died Tuesday.   I'm sure the name won't ring a bell unless you read and memorize the credtis at the end of cartoons.  He started at Disney (Bambi, Fantasia, and Dumbo), went to Warner Bros. to work on Looney Tunes, and then made his own production company where he worked on all the Peanuts specials, shows and movies - and he was the voice of Snoopy.  He also directed the animated version of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe.  Oh, and he worked on Garfield, too.   I don't think I'd be as well adjusted a person as I am without all those Peanuts cartoons.   The article about this over on Ain't It Cool news had this included, it made me smile.
