This was a suggestion from www.unplggd.com: Vintage Cameras on Display that I thought was nifty, because I happened to have a old camera hidden away in storage... so I brought it out, and put it out there. Now, that's some character right there!

Might seem a bit extreme to you.

But inspiration struck me hard

» My First Post...
I suppose if I had to give my home a style, it would be "whimsy". :) My husband and I just bought a home 3 months ago, and I've been busy decorating every chance I get! Below are some pix of things I've done... painted a chair for the living room, the kids' bathroom, some of the dining room and kitchen. I'll post more as I get things done. :)

» Last Look - Picture of my place from the last year or so...
Last look at the old way I decorated my place. But now I am and have been moving furniture around, trying new decorating things. So this is the last look at these rooms before I give them a new spin. Some of the stuff may not be very exciting, but there may be some nice things here and there :-D

Main Bedroom - Long before I put up the Brightly coloured calender collage and moved the bed in a different position.

» Craftsman Home with Eccentric Style
At the request to make this community come alive...here is my 1928 Craftsman Rental home in Olympia, Washington. I live with my boyfriend & our roommate of almost 5 years. We're all 24 years of age. We've been in this home for almost 2 years. Some of these photos look REALLY dark on my work computer, but they looked great on my parents' computer that I uploaded them from...so I hope they look great to everyone else!

Most of the furniture and lamps were free from various sources; the Ikea couch was $100 used, the bitchin Formica table was $25 (!!!!!!!!). All of the art is thrifted or hand-me-down; the most expensive piece was the Velvet Indian (which oddly resembles Fred Cole of Dead Moon) at $23.99.

» Hey dudes! Wake up! (fangirl/geek style)
You know, for a community that has over 900 members, it's been way too quiet over the last several months, dudes, I want to see your funky places! I'm interested!

I was going to wait till I actually finishing fixing my place up, as it's still very much of a work in progress at the moment, but here a few bits that I'm willing to show off. As for what style I have, geek style? :-D

» Tip: Something to do with an old calender
Thought some of you guys might like this, something to do with those old calenders that you keep because you like the pretty pictures. Cut the pictures out and stick 'em on your wall as a collage. I was lucky, I had a large 2007 calender that was at work, that had some gorgeous brightly coloured landscapes, as soon as January 1st 2008 came along, I took that thing home!

And now it's on my bedroom wall:

» Moving!
I'm moving from the old house in the Historical District to an apartment building. Lots of reasons why. Thing is, I will have a lot more limited space. So, I have a crapton of stuff to cram into the place or find something to do with...lol.

I don't have pics yet, but here is the floorplan:

» Dulwich Hill
I'm not sure if I ever got around to posting this, anyway, the day before I moved out of my Dulwich Hill unit, I cleaned it up a bit and took pictures, I think this may of been the only time it was tidy.

This way to view my Dulwich Hill Gallery

Now I'm working on my Parramatta apartment, which is very much a work in progress at the moment.
» Painting Tips
A few secrets from my painter days and makes for a professional look and pennys on the dollar:

1)  Prep work:  Take time to lay down a drop cloth of some kind even if your only doing a small area as paint is a bitch to get out of carpet or hardwood floors.  Spend the extra few cents on blue painters tape as it comes off days after you lay it on, regular scotch tape will stick and be alot harder to remove. Make sure you overlap the tape to cover all areas you don't want painted. Cut and use trash bags to cover doors/windows to prevent dust and paint from getting on them.

2)  Sand and then spackle over any holes in the wall and let dry about 2-3 hours.

3)  Sand use a 80/120 grit paper and a low speed sander to even out the areas to paint and rough up the surface to make it ready to paint with a fresh area. The surfaces need to be clean.

4)  Wipe down the area with fresh water and a sponge, let dry for at least 1 hour or more depending on temp and humdity. Fresh surface for paint to adhere to. The surfaces need to be clean

5)  Prime from the top down to the bottom and use a roller for the main body and do the edge work around doors/window/frames first. The primer is laid down first to make sure that old pain doesn't show through and covers up any imperfections. (KILZ is the top choice for interiors)

6) Let the primer dry at least 4 hours before first coat of new paint +/- an hour due to humdity and temp.

7)  Paint from the top down to the bottom and use a roller for the main body and do the edge work around doors/window/frames first.  Let the coats sit for at least 2 or more hours between applying additional coat if not at least over night. This will make sure the paint has properly dried and cured to the surface area.
