Roly Pig Composter It's not quite alterna-energy, but my husband and I are now obsessing over the Roly Pig Composter. The company also offers solar panels and has links to a bunch of rebate info and stuff if you dig into the site. Just an fyi, but I thought folks might be interested. :) Current Mood: productiveCurrent Music: "The Dreams" Peter Mulvey |

More solar cell efficiency, and a new wind generator 1mm diameter solar cell spheres formed in freefall by gravityThe Sphelar, which is the brainchild of Kyoto-based Kyosemi, is a perfectly round solar cell that can be made as small as 1mm in diameter. In serial or parallel, hundreds or thousands of the devices can be used to form a solar panel of any shape. Windbelt, Cheap Generator Alternative, Set to Power Third WorldFrayne’s device, which he calls a Windbelt, is a taut membrane fitted with a pair of magnets that oscillate between metal coils. Prototypes have generated 40 milliwatts in 10-mph slivers of wind, making his device 10 to 30 times as efficient as the best microturbines. |

Can that be true? I received a leaflet from the recycling effort at my other job today. It says: Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for three hours or the equivalent of a half a gallon of gasoline. Can that be true? Wow. High efficiency solar panels are getting cheaper. New manufacturing process captures more light in solar cellsAnti-reflective coating is also used on solar panels to reduce the amount of reflected light and until now, the anti-reflective and hydrogenation for advanced cells has been done with a Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) process that is costly for manufacturers.
Braggone can now introduce the same anti-reflective and hydrogenation techniques with a very simple and cost efficient spray coat, bake and repeat process. |

Alt Energy Podcasting In doing a search for interesting podcasts, I searched for "energy" and came up with 60+ results. Anyone have a favorite that they're already listening to? :) Current Mood: goodCurrent Music: Ani DiFranco |
