They called Dave in and told him thanks for everything but BYE! Don't bother turning up tonight. Their putting their own night on, not sure what it will be.

	you reckon? They had a decent turnout, enough to fill most of the venues in edinburgh, and rock/metal crowds do a lot more drinking than the techno folk who populated the venue. Less folk on E means more pints going over the bar. There are plenty of venues in edinburgh that would take the mission on, whether they'll want to keep going is another matter. Where exactly? The Venue is gone and Honeycomb doesnt do much in the way of clubs anymore.

That leaves Citrus, Subway, Cabaret Voltaire, the Liquid Rooms and the Bongo Club. The only possible one of that that they could get would be Subway but even then its unlikely. Teviot etc is presumably unlikely, what with Ascension and Cyberia etc.

Your also presuming that the mission goers would follow, rather than staying at the Studios, from what I saw numbers were maybe twice or more than what the mission had been getting in recent times.

I don't see why they wouldn't get any of those venues; maybe not on a weekly basis, but their numbers were such that they could do well on a biweekly basis. As for competing with the new night, true, it'd be difficult, but the studios is one of the worst venues in edinburgh in terms of equipment and cleanliness; subway cowgate is the only one on that list that isn't a far better venue than the studios.

Anyway, it's all a moot point, really, it's very much up to the promoters.

Unlikely, all have long running regular nights, often commanding £10 ish per head, other than Subway I wouldnt consider them very 'alternative friendly' none have a history of doing metal nights except the odd gig. When you then consider the likes of Obscene, Optimo and others that could pull in hundreds of people are all looking for new homes as well then you see the problem.

Also if the numbers they were getting were big enough to be attractive to a better venue then they wouldnt have been punted from the Studios in the first place? Besides with the new roofing, new flooring upstairs and new sound system theres not much wrong with the Studios anymore, probably better knick than Citrus is or the Venue was in even.

one of the major things the studios has going for it is the size of the place - it's a lot bigger than most of the other venues in edinburgh, capacity wise. A smaller venue would be very happy with the business the mission was getting.

Until recently, the studios had regular 10 quid a head nights, too - dogma, for example. Most of that extra cost went to the big name djs they got in, something that won't happen at a metal club because there aren't any big namemetal djs.

Define "alternative" here - you mean rock/metal/goth, right? I'd consider all those venues "alternative friendly", just to a wider definition of alternative music. Cabaret voltaire has techno, indie, drum'n'bass, live music, etc. etc.; the citrus had (has?) a regular thursday rock/metal night, and the Bongo hosts, well, damn near anything you can think of. And all they need to keep running at the end of the day is punters in the building and money over the bar.

Yes im meaning rock / metal etc, cab vol seems to focus almost solely on dnb, techno, electro clubs. I know for a fact the cost of renting that place at a weekend is huge, ditto Liquid Rooms and even Messenger at the Bongo have been suffering from the rent cost there.

The owner of the Citrus Clubs hatred for the punters that go on a Thursday night is well known and theyd never pull one of their other nights for the Mission.

My point is that even supposing one of these places had a free slot on a decent day the Mission aint gonna be far up the list of who to give it to, hell we almost lost having a weekly metal night at the Studios apparently and theres about 6 clubs trying to get other nights there alone. Untill the council starts encouraging new venues as opposed to closing them down the number of club nights will dwindle, its a sad fact but a fact nonetheless.

It depends on what your definition of "huge" is, really; the mission at 5 quid a head times 3-400+ punters could afford to pay a fair whack for a venue.

I doubt the council are going to start encouraging new venues any time soon, sadly; there are loads of clubs in edinburgh, it's just that most of them exclusively play mainstream rubbish, e.g. most of the Cowgate and Lothian Road.

	Yes but the Mission hasnt had 3 - 400 punters in a very long time, id be surprised if it was even clearing 100 on a regular basis! And of course most of them will go to the Studios regardless plus those (myself included) who had given up on the Mission over the years. 	The Mission was regularly getting 400 a night until a few months ago.. the reasons for it getting quieter were a lot to do with the venue anyway. And there was never a night when there was less than 250 in. There were 370 in the first night of Redemption; not a fantastic improvement if you ask me (especially as at least 100 got in free). 	The Mission was losing numbers because of the same endlessly repetitive music. I know countless people who stopped going because of that and the ridiculous amounts of under age kids roaming around it, I was at the new night last week and it was by far the most fun ive had there in years. 	Surely they said thanks for everything but the last six months. Shit music and a complete lack of advertising and therefore people has rendered the place a fucking embarrassment of late. A fucking monkey could run a successful club there - you just need to print some flyers occasionally and not employ Craig. Tonight was the best Saturday night the Studios has seen in ages. 	Thats nonsense, every serious club flyers. Even clubs like Obscene at the Venue that would have hundreds packed in would poster and flyer in the run up to nights. Presumably the Studios spent a hell of alot of cash getting the place up to code, its not unreasonable of them to expect that their main night for revenue be a busy one. (Reply to this)(Parent)
