And if this idea amuses you, you should find a copy of Treks Not Taken, a collection of short stories that imagines what would happen if famous writers (Stephen King, Anne Rice, Tom Clancy, and yes – JD Salinger) had written Star Trek stories. You can see "The Crusher in the Rye" written in the style of JD Salinger (Or "A Clockwork Data", "One Beamed Into The Cuckoo's Nest", "The Vampire Le Forge", "Jurassic Trek", "Fandom Shrugged", etc.) I got a copy years ago, and it's probably time I dug it out for a re-read. |

Looks like little Alexander Rozhenko has gotten himself into some trouble:

Drugs? Assault? TATTOOS? I guess he took K'Ehleyr's death pretty hard...
Edited to add: The above is half jest, half shock. I do not mean to imply that tattoos are indicative of anyone's moral character, for good or for ill - it was meant to be humorous. |

| Eminem in the Original Klingon |

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned or linked to from here before, but it's «SuvwI'pu' qan tu'lu'be'» (Without Me) by Klenginem (a rapper who performs Eminem in the original Klingon). If you'd like to gank this for your own journal, community, or elsewhere (note that this will not work in LJ comments, only in the original post); below is the necessary code for copying and pasting: <embed src="http://www.odeo.com/flash/audio_player_standard_gray.swf" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" quality="high" width="300" height="52" wmode="transparent" flashvars="valid_sample_rate=true&external_url=http://media.khemorex-klinzhai.de/audio/Klenginem.mp3" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer"></embed>

| Truly unique typecasting |
[Aug. 19th, 2009|09:17 pm] |
So tonight while I was making muffins, I was in a particularly delicate spot when a timer or something went off and I started muttering to myself about timing and I found myself adlibbing Kivas Fajo's response to the Andorians interrupting his time with Data (They've had four days... they would have to make up their minds now. Ah, well...). The sharp turnaround stopped me in my tracks because it seemed eerily familiar to something else. I suddenly realized it, but went to Memory Alpha to double check and it's true: Kivas Fajo is running the warehouse in Warehouse 13. Yes, the same actor that played Kivas Fajo plays Arty. How many characters in the realm of sci-fi TV are known collectors and keepers of rare and mysterious objects? How many of them carry prototype energy weapons? I do think maybe the Tesla is an early version of the Varon-T disruptor... or vice versa.
Maybe I'm just late realizing this, but I was very surprised to make the connection. |

| Calling all Picard/Crusher fans... |
[Aug. 31st, 2008|10:47 am] |
I searched on LJ and I didn't see a community for one of my favorite ST couples: Picard and Crusher! I know they weren't *officially* a couple, but that doesn't mean we don't love them together! Join at_kesprytt , a community to let fans have what TPTB didn't give us.

| | Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Shattered Mirror | ] | I pretty much hate any Star Trek episode that deals with the following:- Time travel
- Holodeck malfunction
- Anything with the Star Trek kids -- Wesley, Alexander, Jake, Nog, Naomi, etc...
- Mirror universe
They do very little to advance character development, and by the end of the episodes, they've usually hit the "reset button" so they do even less to advance the overall plot of the series. |

| "My Sex Injury Made Shatner A Star" |
[Aug. 26th, 2008|11:59 am] |

IMDb — Veteran actor Christopher Plummer is livid an injury he suffered during from a one-night stand meant that William Shatner played his part in Henry V – because it made the Star Trek actor a star. Plummer was lined up to perform in the Shakespeare play in 1956 – but an unplanned romp left him unable to take to the stage, according to New York gossip column PageSix. He says in his autobiography In Spite Of Myself: "I woke up alone the next morning… (pain) all around my groin and lower abdomen… I started to whimper like a whipped dog. 'So this is what syphilis is like?' I thought. 'I suppose I deserve it, but Christ, how the hell was I to know?'" But instead of being struck down by the disease, Plummer had dislodged a kidney stone and had to undergo a medical procedure with a surgical wire to resolve the problem. "It began to sink in… Shatner, my understudy, would have to go on... (It) instantly brought back the pain. I screamed for a nurse who jabbed me with more morphine. I knew then that the SOB was going to be a star." Sounds like sour grapes, although I can see how some people would like describing The Shat's entire acting career as a sexually transmitted disease. In any event, if you're not sure who Christopher Plummer is, think Captain Von Trapp from The Sound of Music. Plummer did work with Shatner again decades later, making his own appearance in the Star Trek universe and still spouting Shakespeare:
