Welcome to A4E's LJ Community!

The Allies 4 Equality (formerly known as the Gay-Straight Alliance) started on March of 2003. We welcome any student who is gay, lesbian, bisexual, straight, transgendered, or other. Our meetings are student run with teacher support.

~~

Rules & Guidelines

1. R.E.S.P.E.C.T.

2. In order to join or post in this community, you do NOT have to be gay, a member of the A4E, or have an LJ account. Anybody may join and post as long as they follow these rules/guidelines.

3. Whatever is said here should stay here. Ex: Fili comes out at straight, and even though people are shocked, they will not tell anyone because "whatever is said here, stays here." Such revealing entries can be posted as "Friends Only."

4. Please keep your stories anonymous. Ex: If Natalie is being a HUGE homophobe and addressed me by a derogatory name, I would NOT state her name in my story. But seriously, don't talk about people (in LJ anyway) because anybody has access to the posts.

5. You do not have to tell us your sexual orientation, although you are welcome to. Ex. Kat finds out she is straight and she is shameful. Because she is so self-conscious about her straight-ness, she may choose not have announce it.

6. Ranting and posting pictures are *thumbs up*. However, please use LJ-cuts:

7. Have fun. It's an order.

~~

Keep in Mind

Anyone can join and start a new post.

If you wish to discuss something more private, you may wish you put your entry as "Friends Only." That means only the people on this community will be able to read it. To do this, select "friends" for "security," located under the entry box.

The A4E's mission is to:

1. Create safe environments in schools for students to support each other and learn about homophobia and other oppressions.

2. Educate the school community about homophobia, gender identity and sexual orientation issues.

3. Fight discrimination, harassment, and violence in schools.

~~

Our meetings take place at lunch every Tuesday in room E-266. If you have any questions, please email the co-presidents at Allies4Equality@yahoo.com.

~~

We do not ask for anyone’s sexual orientation, although he or she is welcome to share it. Nothing that is said in the meeting will leave the meeting

To contact the sponsors (Mrs. Mary Wagner and Ms. Kerri Blankenship), please email them at Mary_Wagner@fc.mcps.k12.md.us or Kerri_Blankenship@fc.mcps.k12.md.us.
