Our ISP is having intermittent DNS issues, so the site will be randomly unavailable until the problem is resolved. Thanks for being patient.

Also, story approval will be slow from now until next week due to mod vacation.

[ETA 12:53pm - They think the problem is resolved.]

Archive downtime [Feb. 25th, 2007|11:19 am]

graculus
We're currently experiencing some technical difficulties with All Daniel Fic, apparently due to a major power outage at the company which hosts both ours and many other websites.

In the meantime, thanks to everyone who's submitted fics recently (we're up to 523 stories!) and we look forward to seeing more from you all when the archive is back up! :)

E.T.A. - 2.44pm UK time - and we're back...

496! [Oct. 22nd, 2006|11:01 am]

graculus
There are 496 stories in the archive right now. If you have some Daniel-centric fic you haven't uploaded yet, let's see if we can reach the magic number 500. :)

A word on story information... [Jun. 16th, 2006|06:21 pm]

graculus
[mood |busy]

Just a brief reminder that if you're posting a story, there's no need to include the story information again in the text of what you're submitting. In fact, we'd prefer it if you didn't, since we tend to strip that out anyway before stories are approved so that all the stories on the archive are set out in a similar way. The same thing goes for chapter headers in the story text if you're posting a multiple-chapter story.

P.S. more stories always welcome! :)

More fic wanted + minor technical problems overcome! [Jun. 2nd, 2006|07:33 pm]

[Current Location |Body in England, brain in Illinois]
[mood | hungry]

The first probably speaks for itself: we're always looking for Daniel-centric stories for the archive, so if you've written something that might work for us, please consider submitting it. Despite being die-hard slashers, both [info]xochiquetzl and myself are delighted to see so many het stories on the archive, so those are particularly welcome, as is any non-Jack/Daniel slash. Oh, and we like gen too! :)

Two minor points, though - we don't accept crossovers, not even crossovers with Stargate: Atlantis and stories which have other characters thinking about Daniel, while he fails to make a personal appearance at all are a hard sell for us.

As for the second, it seems that [info]xochiquetzl has used her geekly wisdom to overcome the problem people were having when archiving stories that they couldn't see the option for 'gen' in the relevant drop-down menu. Some research with those people where this was a problem demonstrated that this was actually due to Internet Explorer and has now been fixed. Please let us know if you have a technical problem archiving in the future!

Shameless pleading [May. 2nd, 2006|12:55 pm]

graculus
[mood | blah]

And we're up to 395 400 stories on the archive but we've had a quiet last couple of weeks. This is not good.

So, please, if you're writing (or have written) anything that could be considered to be Daniel-centric enough for the archive - think of us and post it here! :)

Abuse of the Review Function [Feb. 23rd, 2006|08:31 pm]

xochiquetzl
It's come to our attention that some people are abusing the review function. We'll assume that they're pasting in reviews they've received elsewhere. Even so, second-hand reviews are not allowed and will be deleted.

Who has posted a review is quite clear in the database, as is whether an author has responded to a review.

If you'd like to encourage a strong reviewer culture on All Daniel Fic, why not review several stories? Authors love reviews, and will be thrilled to hear your thoughts. And authors who recognize your name from your reviewing their work are more likely to read and review yours.

Definitions.... and how to contact us [Feb. 8th, 2006|07:30 pm]

graculus
Having seen a couple of submissions recently which have needed to be reallocated to another category, I felt it might be useful to outline how we're defining categories.

If your story has Daniel and another character thinking about, talking about or actually getting together, dating, or having sex, then it's either het or slash (depending on the sex of the other person). If your story does not have any of those things, it's gen. Be aware, however, that a story focussed on another pairing where Daniel happens to be there as well is much more likely not to be accepted, since one of our criteria for accepting stories is that they should be mostly about Daniel.

Meanwhile, we do accept suggestions or comments on how the archive works or how you'd like to see it work. Those can be made here on the livejournal, via email to admin at alldanielfic dot com, or via the 'contact us' link which can be found at the bottom of the archive's main page. There may be things that you would like which we cannot actually do (for one reason or another), but we'd like to know what people think and we'd rather receive communication directly than second-hand comments.

Please note this is not a survey for whether people want the page count feature back, but if this is what you want to say to us, then drop us a line. At the moment, we're hearing this is a problem that is supposedly stopping people from archiving with us, but we're not actually hearing that direct. If people feel that strongly about this that they're talking about it to others in the fandom then we'd like to hear from them.

E.T.A. I am reliably informed that there is as yet no working fix for the page count issue in the version of the software we were forced to upgrade to, but we're still interested in knowing how many people this is actually an issue for...

Reviews and the leaving of them... [Jan. 19th, 2006|10:49 pm]

graculus
[mood | amused]

A quick note to say that the total number of stories archived on the site currently stands at 305 - we're particularly pleased to see so much het fic being archived and would very much like the number of gen fic to rise as well. Submissions of all kinds are welcome though, but the more arcane pairings in particular...

Reviews and ratings of the fics we have on AllDanielFic are very much welcome too. However, the decision was made to only allow reviews from people who have actually created an account at the archive - we felt that the possibility of anonymous commenting was likely to be just a little too tempting for some people to resist misusing. So, if you're reading this and don't have an account with us, then perhaps today's the day to change that? ;)

A brief word regarding changes on the archive [Dec. 18th, 2005|10:38 am]

graculus
[mood | cold]

Those people who've visited AllDanielFic in the last couple of weeks may have noticed a change to the format of the archive - mail we've received tells us that some authors have definitely noticed a change and have expressed concerns about one thing in particular.

In brief, it was discovered that the version of software we were using to run the archive had a security hole in it, one which enables people to hack into the archive and use it to send trojans to people's computers. Let's just say that is a Bad Thing and something that is likely to make a website very unpopular with people and therefore something had to be done about it...

As a result, we (and other people running archives with the same software) were forced to upgrade - it wasn't something we were planning on doing any time soon where AllDanielFic was concerned and there are things about the new software we don't like, but there wasn't a choice. We couldn't be responsible for a website that was infecting people's computers solely because there were things about the previous version of software that people using the archive liked better.

We know that the author's view of hits for stories has disappeared - we've had some mail about this and that people were unhappy about this aspect of the change came as no surprise. As writers ourselves, we understand that it's good to feel someone is actually reading what they've posted, so this would have been the last thing we would have chosen to remove. However, the new version doesn't have that option and until such a point as [info]xochiquetzl is able to beat the code into submission, it won't be coming back. Rest assured, however, that if you've posted fic to the archive, it is being read.

Meanwhile, we welcome new stories, particularly Daniel/Vala (as the hits to our site demonstrate people are looking for this) and we'd very much like to break the 300 stories mark!
