Self Log - Answers?
Who: Tezuka Kunimitsu and Saeki Kojirou
Where: Seishun Gakuen
When: Almost immediately after Saeki and Urahara's dramatic encounter.
What: Saeki demands some answers from Tezuka. Tezuka isn't willing to volunteer.
Warning: PG
Note: Self log. It's basically a retarded fic because I've never done this before and I have no idea how self logs look like. It was fun to write :D?

Tezuka had a pretty good idea why Saeki wanted to talk to him and he tried his best to avoid this meeting. Unfortunately for him, people had been right when they said Saeki was like a bulldog: once he set his teeth into something you’d have to kill him to get him to back off and since Tezuka had no such desire (killing really wasn’t something he fancied, or even considered, really) he had finally agreed to meet Saeki at Seishun, late in the evening when no one was there anymore so they could talk undisturbed.

In all honesty, Tezuka would have skipped the meeting altogether (as cowardly as that was) if he didn’t fear that Saeki would show up on his doorstep if he did and accidentally (or not) let something spill about the strange goings-on Tezuka was – unfortunately! – involved in.

Tezuka didn’t know how much Fuji had told Saeki. From what he heard, he hoped it wasn’t much but it came as much of a shock when the other boy had called him, apparently quite upset and strange (Tezuka didn’t know Saeki well, but he knew him well enough to know Saeki didn’t easily lose his composure and hearing Saeki sound... freaked out… well, it was disconcerting) and demanding a meeting.

It made Tezuka feel slightly nauseous. He hoped it was just his imagination and it hadn't really been as bad as he imagined things to be over the phone, but when Saeki rushed to meet him, pale and wild-eyed and disturbed, Tezuka felt his stomach drop and he immediately knew, with one look at Saeki's face, that the situation was actually much worse than he had feared.

“Tezuka!” Saeki said, without preamble and although Tezuka never cared about honorifics he knew that Saeki did, and this just confirmed his fears. “I’ve just came from that freak Urahara's! He told me to talk to you about what happened to Syuusuke! And you too, apparently! I’ve never knew you were hurt. Were you really, or did he make it all up? Never mind, you can tell me later. First of all, tell me if that freak is for real, or is he just some psycho because I have half of mind of going to the police and have them arrest his sorry, creepy ass! But I wanted to talk to you first, so you can tell me more. Syuusuke doesn't seem to be in any condition to talk to me and he hardly gives me a straightforward answer when he’s behaving sane as it is—well, sane for him anyway.” Saeki paused to take a breath, staring intently at Tezuka, willing him to give him answers. "So, what happened?”

Tezuka, feeling slightly light-headed from the verbal onslaught and partly also from shock—he had really been convinced Saeki really didn’t know what was going on but it turned out he did, and much more than Tezuka would have liked—and he stood for a few moments, disoriented and feeling lost, not entirely sure how to—if it was even possible!—to salvage the situation. One thought registered with startling clarity, however: Urahara was so going to pay!

Knowing Urahara and his habit of spilling secrets everyone else had been dying to protect (sometimes quite literally) Tezuka knew that Saeki now knew much more—everything, really!—than Tezuka wanted him to know.

The good news was that he didn’t seem to believe it. Not yet, anyway. Not if Tezuka didn’t say it was true, and he wasn’t planning on saying anything.

“Fuji… hasn’t been feeling well lately,” he said carefully, trying to tell the truth as much as he could. Lying wouldn’t go over well, partly because Saeki wasn’t going to take it and partly because Tezuka really sucked at lying.

Saeki rolled his eyes impatiently. “No shit! I know, that was what caused all this. I want to know what happened to him.”

Tezuka shifted uncomfortably. “I… it’s not my place to say.”

Saeki stared at him for a few moments, disbelieving. “Tezuka!” he warned impatiently. “I am seriously ready to go to the police and have both Syuusuke and that creep committed if you don’t tell me what really happened.”

Tezuka didn’t look at him for a long time. Well, it was to be expected someone who hadn’t been there wouldn’t believe it. He had a hard time believing it happened, too, and he had been there. The absence of that uncomfortable pricking in his elbow and shoulder was the only indicator that the entire thing had actually happened.

“We… were attacked. I am not entirely sure what happened and by who,” Tezuka said, his voice surprisingly honest. It wasn’t lying, technically—he hadn’t known at that time, after all. “When I came to I was at Urahara’s and they were nursing us to health. Fuji had been much worse off than I had been, he wasn’t really… there.” Tezuka paused, feeling uncomfortable just thinking about that. “He was… really confused for a while.”

Saeki stared at him, and his sharp eyes gave Tezuka the feeling like the other boy was looking straight through him. “That sounds very vague, Tezuka.”

Tezuka locked his jaw stubbornly, staring back at Saeki coldly. “Like I said, I can’t remember much of it.”

“You just don’t want to tell me what happened,” Saeki bit back sharply.

Tezuka didn’t reply, not denying nor acknowledging the accusation.

“What was this talk about monsters that Urahara talked about? And Syuusuke…” Saeki grimaced. “He said he had been… tentacle raped…. by a monster.”

Tezuka’s eyes widened in surprise. He had known Fuji had told Saeki something, but he didn’t know it was this.

Saeki of course noticed his reaction and interpreted it as disbelief. He grinned, relieved. “Oh good, it isn’t true then? I was sure Syuusuke was just so sick he didn’t know what he was talking about but that freak almost convinced me. You know he dragged me down his fucking cellar and shot at me? I thought I was a gonner.”

Tezuka grimaced at the news, not too shocked by it. This was Urahara they were talking about, after all.

“I… don’t trust that man,” he said, gruffly, and Saeki nodded. “Hell yeah! Fucking psycho! Needs locking up!”

“Yes,” agreed Tezuka, already thinking how to tell about what happened to Kuchiki-san. It wasn’t going to be pretty.

“But you!” Saeki suddenly said, his eyes locking on Tezuka’s face again and Tezuka felt his face stiffen, uncomfortable under the stare. “Urahara said you were hurt. And from what that little guy said you seemed to be hurt badly.”

His eyes narrowed.

“You don’t look hurt.”

“I was lucky,” Tezuka said stiffly. “It wasn’t as bad as it seemed at first. And I heal quickly.”

Saeki stared at him, eyes scanning Tezuka’s face. Even if he was more than ready to believe there weren’t any monsters and that Urahara was insane and Syuusuke was delusional, he wasn’t deliberately avoiding seeing the truth.

He knew Tezuka wasn’t telling him everything.

“You aren’t telling me everything, are you?”

Tezuka didn’t reply at first. “I told you as much as I remember.”

“You’re a bad liar,” Saeki said, sounding irritated. “It wasn’t you who did something to Syuusuke, was it?”

No!” Tezuka glared at Saeki, but Saeki stared back, unflinching, unaffected.

“Just checking. Was it that Urahara creep then?”

“No, it wasn’t him either, even if he seems insane. He’s just… really weird, and has a strange sense of humour.” None of it lies.

Saeki’s eyes narrowed. “Then why was Syuusuke acting so strange?”

Tezuka shrugged. “I don’t know. You should ask him. He was just very out of touch with reality for a while so he was saying all sorts of things. It was like he was drugged.”

That was true, and Saeki couldn’t dispute it either. Syuusuke had been saying strange things, after all.

“I guess,” he said, unconvinced. He paused, then asked: “So, you’re saying I shouldn’t report that creep to the police for trying to kill me?”

Tezuka’s lips curled downwards when he remembered that. Sure, he owed Urahara. But Saeki didn’t. “No,” he said. “I don’t mind if you do.”

Saeki grinned at him, amused for the first since they started talking, and nodded: “Well, I’m still alive and I’m not hurt. And it seems that guy did save you two so I guess it sort of evens out. And I’ll make sure not to go alone to weird guys Yuuta sends me to from now on. “

Tezuka nodded. “Sounds good.”

Saeki glanced at him, his grin disappearing almost instantly. “I know you haven’t told me everything, Tezuka. I will find out what you’re hiding.”

Tezuka’s face turned stony. “Aa.” Saeki could do what he liked but he would hardly get any information out of him.

“Why all the secrecy, though?” Saeki pressed on, but Tezuka suddenly stiffened, realising the noise in the background was exactly what he had feared it was. About time they got out of there.

He turned to leave and although Saeki seemed startled Tezuka seemed to just want to walk out on him, he wasn’t ready to be shaken off and caught up with Tezuka, and they headed down the street, in the opposite direction of the noise.

“It’s not just us,” he said, partly to keep Saeki’s interest and prevent him from going the wrong way and partly to try and reassure Saeki. “The people who saved us… They didn’t want any trouble, so they didn’t want us to say anything.” He feel slightly bad for making his rescuers sound so bad but desperate times called for desperate measures.

“What? They sound like a dodgy bunch!” Saeki said, surprised. “You didn’t go to the police?”

“No. We owed them, so we respected their wishes,” Tezuka said stiffly, realising he messed up. He shouldn’t have started talking about this in the first place.

“Didn’t you say you don’t remember what happened and who attacked you? Couldn’t it be that these guys attacked you, freaked out when they realised what happened and then pretended to save you so they wouldn’t get in trouble?”

“No!” Tezuka said sharply. “It wasn’t like that!”

“But you don’t remember who attacked you! It could have been like that!” Saeki insisted sharply. He wouldn’t have put it past Urahara to do something like that and Tezuka knew exactly that that was what he was thinking.

“It wasn’t them,” he said sharply, with finality.

That still didn’t stop Saeki. “How do you know?”

“It just wasn’t! And it wasn’t Urahara who saved us he just had us nursed back to health and stay at his place. The people who saved us… They’d never hurt anyone.”

Saeki didn’t seem convinced. In his mind, anyone who hung out with Urahara couldn’t be a trustworthy person. But Tezuka wasn’t going to spill any beans, Saeki could see as much.

“So, you say Syuusuke was just delirious when he said what he did then?” he changed the subject.

“Yes,” said Tezuka stiffly. “He doesn’t feel very well lately.”

“I noticed,” Saeki said quietly and they walked in silence for a while. “I shouldn’t get him to see a shrink then? You think he’ll be okay?”

Tezuka didn’t reply immediately. “I hope so.”

“That doesn’t sound very reassuring,” Saeki complained but Tezuka could see he was worried.

“He’s strong. I think he’ll be okay. Just give him some time.”

Saeki made a face, but he didn’t object or say anything so Tezuka figured he agreed.

They stopped at Saeki’s bus stop and after only a few minutes of standing in silence, his bus pulled over and Saeki got on and turned around before the doors closed: “I’ll find out your secret, you know.”

“You’re better off not knowing some things,” Tezuka said stiffly and judging by Saeki’s stunned face, he would have jumped off the bus again and demand answers if the door hadn’t just closed in his face.

Tezuka watched the bus drive off and ignored his cell phone. He knew it was Saeki calling and he didn’t feel like talking to him just now. He took off his glasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose tiredly, content with the thought that at least the noise was gone now. He put on his glasses and turned around to head home.

Urahara was going to pay for this!
