Fan Project 2006, 「HANDS」
Hello, I've just gotten the go-ahead from our moderators, so here's our latest official alice nine. fan project! (After the successful strychn⑨ne project, it's time for another one...)
Brief summary:
- The theme this time round is "hands", specifically, the idea of reaching out and taking hold of another hand, then walking hand-in-hand with them to the band's future glory days. It coincides with the band's message that the fans are their sixth member, so this is a pretty good way of agreeing with them, because we're giving them our hands in a very literal manner, for them to take hold of.
- The project consists of a collection of palm-prints and hand outlines from the participants, with the participant's name/location/message written on it. These will be collated and sent off together to the band, to congratulate them on the release of 'NUMBER SIX.' and also their tour final.
- It's a very simple project and you can do it within 5 minutes, if you're really fast! We're aiming for a high submission rate this time, because that would make the message really strong.
--->> PROJECT LOG <<---
アリス九號. 「HANDS」 International Fan Project

Who:
This project is for alice nine., the band that we all love.
What:
A collection of palm-prints and hand outlines from the international fan community. Name, location and messages will be written on the other side of the print. Palm-prints are made by putting paint on your hand and making a print (e.g. like this), and hand outlines are made by tracing the shape of your hand (e.g. like that). It would be nice if everyone happened to choose different colours, because the final result would be a really colourful collection, carrying the message of diversity (our different locations, cultures, feelings), and it matches their new image as well.

Please remember that all submissions have to be received by 29 September, Friday. If you follow the instructions given below, I'll be able to email you when I get your submission, so you know it's safe. Collation will be done over the weekend and the package will be shipped on Monday. We're working on an extremely tight schedule so it would be better if you sent in your contributions early.
Why:
To let the band know that we're always with them, even though we're so far away. The band has come a long way, and all of us here have watched them grow, and we're constantly reaching out to them through little contributions like fanmail and other fan projects. Here, we're offering them our hands, in both a figurative and literal sense. It's a message to tell them that we're here too, and we're making the effort to reach them, because we want to connect with them and walk towards the future hand-in-hand.
How:
(For a guide with pictures, please go to the Picture Guide!)
1. Make your choice - palm-print or hand outline? Or both? All participants are limited to one palm-print and one hand outline each, so you can submit both if you want. This is to make allowances for those with long messages to write, and those who want the band to get both hands.
2. Select a suitable material for your task. Paper might be too flimsy, but a wooden plank is way overboard. I'd suggest hard paper, mounting board, or cardboard.
3. Make your palm-print or hand outline! Make your prints with solid-colour paints (avoid black!) so that it looks neat and clear. For the outlines, make them black and bold, then colour the inside (using colour pencils, markers, paint, watercolour, anything you want) with a colour of your choice.
4. Wait for the paint to dry, then cut out the print/outline carefully. Try to leave a border so that it looks neater, and when it gets threaded at the end, there's some allowance. The final result should be a hand-shaped object.
5. Flip the print/outline over. The behind should still be empty. This is the space for you to write your name, location and message to the band. You should not put your age, address or any other personal information. The messages should not contain offensive or sexual content (same as any other fan project so far). Please remember to be respectful. Any message deemed inappropriate will be removed. Do not attempt to write in Japanese unless you are confident that it can be understood by the reader. Simple English is recommended. If you would like to add a cultural touch, write "Hand-in-hand, always together with alice nine." in your native language. (This is just something really interesting to add on!)
*Please only write all this information on the back!
6. Decorate your hand in any way that you like, but please ensure that it still looks like a hand at the end of the process! Try to keep the base colour obvious so that all the hands will look good together in the end (meaning that the base colour, like purple or red or whatever you chose, should be very obvious to the viewer). You can use other colours for decoration, but the overall impression should be of the base colour. You can decorate the back of the hand, and also use text to decorate the front, but the text on the front should not be a part of the information/message at the back. This is for the sake of uniformity. ^__^
7. Mail your contribution(s) to the address stated above! Please include a memo with your name and email address so that I can notify you when I've received your contribution. When you have mailed it, email me with your name and location (or address) so that I can keep track of your contribution. The subject of your email should say "alice nine. HANDS Project submission".
8. Also, money issues: several people have pointed this out to me. X__X Well, buying the materials needed for the final collation and sending the package will cost a considerable sum. But of course, no one's going to make you pay for this. Donations are welcomed, just USD$1 sent along with your submission would be very much appreciated. (USD/SGD is preferred, and please remember to only send banknotes/dollar bills. Ah, the art of concealed cash...) This is entirely optional! I'll pay for the balance myself, I guess.
NOTE: You're free to write what you want in the message to the band, but since it's a project for the band as a whole, it would be great if you could shower some attention on all the members and not only one! It's okay if you put more emphasis on your favourite member, but please at least put a reference to the other members too (just a simple "I love alice nine.!" counts!). Since we're telling them that we're following them through, we can't just ignore the rest, right? ^__^
