As part of their San Diego Comic-Con events, Disney Interactive has announced plans to release a game based on the forthcoming Tim Burton directed version of Alice in Wonderland. The title, due out in early 2010, will be released at the same time as the movie which will feature Johnny Depp in a role he was apparently born to play, the Mad Hatter.

Developed by France-based Etranges Libellules, the game has the player controlling Alice through Tim Burton's version of Wonderland (actually set several years after the events of Lewis Carroll's original book). The game will also feature players controlling other characters like the Mad Hatter that can help Alice solve puzzles and evade traps. For example the Mad Hatter can " . . . take advantage of optical illusions to open up places in the world the player alone would not have noticed."

One of the most anticipated films coming to Comic-Con is Tim Burton's 3D reworking/sequel of Alice in Wonderland. Images of Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter has the Red Queen, Mia Wasikowska as teenage Alice, and Anne Hathaway as the White Queen have been colorfully delicious, but moving footage has remained elusive.

In talking with MTV News, Burton revealed, cryptically, how he plans to promote Alice in Wonderland at Comic-Con next week.

"[It's] a kind of a semi-trailer," Burton said. "It's where we're at at the moment. There's not a lot of footage to show." The film is still a ways off so the lack of complete footage is understandable, but I suspect what he brings will not only look complete but jaw-dropping all the same.

Burton also spoke candidly about how he and Depp approached the Mad Hatter. "When you look at most interpretations, everything is pretty one-note," he said. "Everybody is crazy. With him, we are always trying to find a subtext and layer to it so it's rooted in humanity to some degree—something deeper than just being nuts."

Everyone's fingers are crossed that Burton's "Semi-Trailer" at Comic-Con includes the Mad Hatter digging deeper than nuts. What better man to dig deep than a man named "Depp."

First-look photos of the newest, nuttiest "Alice in Wonderland" movie — Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter with squiggles of orange hair leaping like flames from his head, Anne Hathaway's White Queen sealing shut her blood-red lips — popped out of the rabbit hole that is Tim Burton's wacked-out mind in June.

Actual footage of the big-screen version of Lewis Carroll's famed children's story, though, has not yet surfaced. But at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, Alice and her troupe of wackadoodle creatures will move among us — albeit on Disney Digital 3-D.
