The page count, a latte, and characters who don't know when to stop I have to do 8 and 9 pages a day, alternating, for the next 10 days. George has indicated that he should be able to help me out with 2 a day unless his own editor cracks the whip. The "Divide" series is proceeding; it's hard to find the time to input all the information that's streaming out of my brain. *orders Bob and Megabyte to SHUT UP FOR FIVE MINUTES, thank you, and of course they don't... it's a cliche that characters take on a life of their own, but well, sometimes they DO...* George and I went out for lunch at Niko's (fish and chips for him, a chicken gyro with salad and rice for me). On the way back we stopped at Starbucks and I now have a sugar-free soy milk latte. Aaaand in the catagory of "links you probably shouldn't click and which will change your worldview if you do"... Pizza Stix at urbandictionary.com. Not safe for work like woah. You have been warned. Back to work. Again. So tired... |

if it's not one thing, it's another Even though the weather hadn't washed out the morning, I still didn't make it to Grafton to volunteer at the farm. My back, which has been bothering me for a couple of days, really flared up today, and I couldn't sit in the car for the hour's drive, let alone bend over rows of vegetables. I'm bummed. Rest, Advil, and hot pads have helped a bit, but I'm feeling wiped. I went for a walk earlier, but it started raining so I didn't get far. It's getting quite dark out now. Here comes Hanna! I think I'll lay down again now. Owie. Current Mood: sore |

Curiosity Gets Me Every Time And usually proves me right. While I do not care if other women decide to cover their hair out of whatever need they see of it, I am particularly confused as to why any woman would WANT to do such a thing given the history of the custom. Some sources say it is pentateuchal, or rooted in Jewish law, others say it is merely a custom that was adopted to keep women "modest" and eventually became so widespread that it was an effective social suppression of immodesty. after all, no one wants to be shamed like the adulteress, right? I found this essay, http://www.bibleandjewishstudies.com/articles/haircovering.htm Written by a woman who apparently knows her stuff and has the access to the sources and sufficient knowledge of Hebrew both new and old to make a good case for it as merely an age old method of shaming women. Women who run around without their hair covered 'entice men to impure thoughts' and a woman's hair was to be viewed 'by her husband only' so both married and unmarried women should cover their hair for modesty's sake. Hogwash I say. It's just an ancient holdover from a time when women could be cast off with nothing and left to beg in the streets if they didn't conform to their owners husband's wishes. I read a few more articles from different viewpoints and found that the most strident objectors to a bareheaded women were orthodox Jewish men. I once worked for an Orthodox Jewish tax attorney. He thought it 'unprofessional' of me to wear slacks to work. I asked him what sort of professional it made me if he could see my legs. Case closed, never heard another word. It amazes me how women continue to try to give up all the ground we've won in the last hundred years or so here in America. All over the world in fact. To be in possession of oneself is a basic human right. The right to wear what one pleases, choose a career in the field one chooses and the right to equal pay for that labor are just a few of the things proponents of hair covering are, by their action saying, "I give it (freedom) up".
Of course, if you WANT to be a kept woman, have yourself completely 'protected' from the other men who don't have what your man has...you - that's your prerogative. According to this practice, men cannot be trusted and should be handcuffed when in mixed company so they can't get into trouble.
Same principle. Both are ridiculous. There's nothing wrong with monogamy. But if you are so afraid of being thought available that you hide under covering for fear of tempting a man, you need to ask yourself if that sort of monogamy isn't the same thing as being 'owned' by your husband.
I know some folks won't like this entry, and that's fine. This is just my opinion. I've observed the practice in other women, heard them say why they do it, or that they don't know, they just do it, or they are commanded to do it by religious law. So I wondered, and researched and found out what I needed to know. It's just a hold over from an ancient method of suppression.
It has no place in my life. That is all.

Does anyone know how to make my MySpace blog display an RSS feed from another blog (please note that this is different from displaying a MySpace blog AS a feed)? Or is MySpace just the Internet's big embarassing cripple joke?

She's Wearing What He Described in His Dream....oh gods... He described a gray pantsuit, and steps, like she was getting off or boarding a plane.....now he says the steps could be a building....she's set to visit the American Embassay before joining Gadahfi for dinner to break the fast of Ramadan. He spoke strangely about her, and the fact was not unremarked in the press. “I support my darling black African woman,” he said. “I admire and am very proud of the way she leans back and gives orders to the Arab leaders ... Leezza, Leezza, Leezza. ... I love her very much. I admire her, and I’m proud of her, because she’s a black woman of African origin.” Creeeeppppy!!! " |

question about pricing I've had someone contact me to ask me if I'd license one of my photos for a self-published book of his. He said he's planning to print about 250 copies. I'm flattered, but I don't want to give it to him for free. How much should I ask? I've never done this before. I don't want to ask an unreasonable amount, but I don't want to ask too little, either.
Thanks! |

Virgos...Oy! Just spent the last hour and a half creating a power point presentation by inserting pictures. I told her the photos would make the file huge. I was told to do it anyway. After all that, she has decided to drop them into single word documents and send them with descriptions. ::sigh:: Can I go home yet? EDIT: I told her Word will save to a .pdf...she got mad at me because she didn't have '.pfd' option to save under. I told her she had to print it to .pdf file. "But I don't WANT to print it! I want to SAVE it as another type of file. Am I speaking another language? What's wrong with you today?" I calmly showed her the adobe option when she finally consented to select "Print" But the good news is....she's gone now....and won't be in on Monday, already signed my timesheet and now I can get back to data entry. I still have six million in single page receipts to go through..... Did I mention she went through the budget file that the previous administrator had created, and because she didn't like the format, she started moving shit around.....ARGGGGGGGG!!! Took me a week to fix it the way she wanted it. NOW she see's the wisdom of the previous way and wants it all changed back......Virgos, menopause, and being weaned off anti depressants are my world at work these days. But hey....I have a job - at least through the end of the month. I mentioned that, and the look of panic that came into her eyes when I mentioned the word 'resume'....but there is no budget money for me...and they are already short a project manager. If they hire one...I might have a chance, but that's not terribly likely since the county cut their salary subsidy....instead of %70 it's now something like 25%....heck, I'm surprised any of them are getting paid on time. |

Outlantacon! Hey, all. Just thought I'd let folks know what the great people at the Outworlders ( http://www.outworlders.info/index.html) have set to doing. Spurred on by the fantastic GLBT presence at events like Dragon*Con and the Gaylaxicon held a couple of years ago in Atlanta, they've decided to put together a GLBT gaming convention: Outlantacon! http://www.outlantacon.org/This gaming convention is going to get its start this coming November, with a one-day gaming event, and then launch into a full weekend-long convention in May, 2009. They have already invited myself as a Guest, and there are bound to be lots of other interesting folks signed up by the time it rolls around. As a long time gaymer, I have to admit to being tremendously excited to see these sorts of developments; it's nice to know that the queer geek community has reached the size where these sorts of events are possible. Do think about attending the November game day if you're anywhere near Atlanta, and if not, there is always the May event! :) I'd love to possibly plan some sort of get-together for the May event, as well. peter piper picked a peck of purple peppers
I finally found the receipt from when I bought the plant - it's a Chinese Five Colour Pepper. The peppers that were once purple and woody have progressed to green, then yellow, orange and finally red. I tried one of the red ones. My head instantly BURST INTO FLAMES. A pot of yogurt later and the feeling is just starting to come back to my nose. There's a painful red patch on my hand from where I spilled some of the juice. Whoaa, mama. That would explain why the squirrels haven't gone anywhere near them. I should plant a ring of them around the house, it would probably keep the mice out. [ETA] Christ, I absent-mindedly put the back of my hand in my mouth to relieve the sting. Now my lips are on fire again. Shit on toast. |

Musings on dreams and politics...of all kinds... I’ve just spent the last half hour going back and forth with my boss about how Outlook will automatically forward a contact as per default filing standards, no matter how I have it filed in my contacts, if I forward it, then the contact defaults to filing under the last name of the contact. You have to change it under the file as selection. She actually had to watch while I entered the contact the way she commanded I do so, watch me save it and forward it to her, and when she opened it…guess what? It was NOT the way I had sent it. She thought I was just being ‘difficult’. Truthfully, I wish she’d go back on the anti-depressant…she was much more focused and logical. Now she’s becoming a pain…..I mean, details, and a Virgo…I know they’re obsessive…but this is ridiculous when people need to get paid and I’m plowing through all her contacts to change the principal’s names to the school name because she can’t remember all the names of the principals. She’s finally decided that she wants TWO cards for each contact so that when she gets it from her Blackberry…she doesn’t HAVE to remember the name of the person…just the school. Fun. If I brought her grapes she’d have me peel them, I swear. I read this morning where Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is meeting with Ghadafi in Libya today. Robb’s been having dreams about her getting assassinated. Jeez….what if….no..not even going to say it. I’ll say that trusting a former self empowered dictator that hates the US with our Secretary of State on the eve of an election….not smart. But they’re supposed to know what they’re doing. The families of those killed in the plane over Lockerbie Scotland are purportedly protesting our ‘cordial’ relations with the former ‘mad dog’ of Libya. Robb’s dreams are usually on target too. This morning he was dreaming about walking around the Masonic temple (they gave him a tour during his vetting meeting) this morning, he told me about it, then went downstairs to check his email before going to work. He had six missed calls and a voice mail. They have accepted him into the Masons and he will be brought in on Sept 11, next Thursday. While I find the ‘honor’ dubious, it means a lot to him. Personally, I think they’re a bunch of influence peddlers, regardless of all their ‘good works’. But perhaps it will satisfy something in him. After all, it has nothing to do with me, right? Then why did the last two temples he applied to refuse him acceptance because we are not legally married? We are married in every sense but the legal….isn’t that a violation of separation of church and state, for the state to have jurisdiction over a spiritual union? Anyway, such is what the day is made of so far. |

Farewell Andros and Andromeda The second twin kitten died today. I knew it wouldn't 'ast. It was so much smaller than the rest and couldn't hold on to the teat. Not a clef pallete, but still unable to feed. I buried her next to Andros. The rest seem to be okay. The look so long and skinny...not premature looking exactly, but just...scrawny. I suppose they will fatten up. I just don't remember the first litter being this small. Course, there weren't six of them either! I sure hope they are going to be normal and not have a lot of health problems. I can't believe I let this happen. :::::head desk:::::::: Current Mood: blah |

I can't believe anyone would vote for Palin, in part because... Sarah Palin asks the library how she can go about banning books, since some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them.Stein says that as mayor, Palin continued to inject religious beliefs into her policy at times. "She asked the library how she could go about banning books," he says, because some voters thought they had inappropriate language in them. "The librarian was aghast." That woman, Mary Ellen Baker, couldn't be reached for comment, but news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor. And the article contains other WTF?-inducing examples of her conduct. I do believe that anyone who'd seriously vote for this woman for VP needs to have their head examined. If her actions in this case weren't a sterling example of anti-American thinking (or at least against the standards of freedom that America generally claims to uphold), I don't know what is. |

I got to work late this morning because there was an accident in Agawam, and I had no idea where I was going (well, an idea, but nothing concrete - I ended up going by Six Flags!). I saw a dump truck laying on its side and dirt spilled out, but the road was closed and I didn't get a good look. Turns out that the truck hit a kid on a bike. *shudder* When I got here, I found out that I was late for a meeting I had forgotten completely about, and I was getting a spiffy new flatscreen monitor installed. It sure is spiffy, too, but I'm still getting used to it. It stretches everything out to the edges, and it appears kind of concave (or is that convex? I can never remember which is which). Colors look really bright, though; I'm looking forward to seeing what my photos look like on it. It looks like Hanna will be hitting us here in MA this Saturday. I wonder if our volunteer gig at the farm will get postponed? My coworker's daughter is getting married, outdoors of course, in Woods Hole on Saturday. They'd better wear boots!
