Faire in the Grove

  • Apr. 23rd, 2008 at 10:51 AM
Hi, everybody, who from the journal are going to Faire in the Grove? I am. I'm going to merchant down there! Come by and see me at my booth where Grahd will be making beeswax candles and we will be flying a large Bali flag (either purple/gold, yellow/gold, or black/gold, we'll find out what will stand out better when we get there) and bee-shaped windsocks. Come see us before the Alexander James Adams show and after. You can find his schedule on www.faerietaleminstrel.com

House Concerts?

  • Apr. 17th, 2008 at 1:02 PM
Anybody hear anything new about the house concerts that AJA was talking about doing last time he came to the silly con valley?

guest appearance

  • Apr. 17th, 2008 at 10:49 AM
I seem to remember that Alec did the fiddle & percussion tracks on [info]vixyish & [info]tfabris's song Apprentice for their new album Thirteen.

I'm listening to it on http://www.myspace.com/vixyandtony now ... might be a bit more work-appropriate to sing along to than March of Cambreadth :)

(Just to be clear: Apprentice is about Firefly's Inara; Companion is about the ninth Doctor, from Rose Tyler's point of view.)

The problem with The March of Cambreadth

  • Apr. 17th, 2008 at 9:39 AM
When you're having a bad morning at work, listening to The March of Cambreadth is toe-tappingly great, until you shout out the chorus and your coworkers give you funny looks...

Alec, Kore, Kevin, Betsy and I are still having our post-show business pow-wow.  The ideas are flowing.  Thanks so much to all of you who came to the show this afternoon or sent love from afar.  Today could simply not be beat for sheer and awesome joy.

We know that we've completely outgrown SoulFood for good now--we packed the place with all your lovely selves with only a day's notice, after all.  BUT, Clint has an inspired plan that he's working on--an outdoor festival in the grassy space next to SoulFood.  We're going to keep in touch about that.

There's also the other gig ideas we have for July--including a Cap Hill venue, and the Danceworks show for July 20th, which has a large dance floor (it's what they do) and also table seating in a separate section.

We're also, finally, planting the seeds for the Tricky Pixie album.
:D
It's coming.

Well, I just got back from the Concert.

  • Apr. 6th, 2008 at 6:21 PM

The concert was wonderful, as always, especially since it was all of Tricky Pixie, when we weren't expecting Sooj back until July (P.S. They are having a show on July 20th at Danceworks in Redmond with enough room to dance, remember that date), and I had some warning ahead of time so I did something special. I made an Alligator Cake.

It was a Red Velvet cake on top with Raspberry Jam filling with a strawberry cake on the bottom with white icing. I called it Tricky Pixie's Revenge since the Alligator in the song ate all the Raspberries and Cream and didn't leave any.
I presented it to Tricky Pixie and Sooj's first words were "Does anyone have a camera?" Which I did and took pictures of it :) I also got pictures of the group.

Also, www.faerietaleminstrel.com is finally up, though it doesn't have much content yet. But it has his schedule so we know where to find him.

new website ...

  • Apr. 6th, 2008 at 6:01 PM
http://www.faerietaleminstrel.com/ is starting to become something! I chatted with Kore & Alec at SoulFood, and the plan is that the site will be getting more content each day until it's all up :)

Balance of Nature Icons

  • Mar. 31st, 2008 at 5:44 PM
I recently picked up Alec's "Balance of Nature", and had the irresistible urge to make icons based around the CD. Fortunately, [info]chirik gave me permission to turn some of her pictures of Alec into icons. (The Heather picture I used is from the Heatherlands.) I'm sharing what I've got so far with you all; I might make more, depending on time and energy and continuing inspiration. ;) Feel free to use! Just please credit [info]makhsihed or [info]makhsicons.

This is the main one:

But in the process of making one icon, I tend to generate five to ten more, so the rest are beneath a cut.

Balancing... )

I'm also open for requests, if anyone has particular bits of lyrics that they want iconified. :>

  • Mar. 30th, 2008 at 11:29 PM
In case some of you (like me!) haven't checked the schedule lately Kore just made a post to her LJ. Alec has a concert at SoulFood Books on Sunday April 6th at 2pm. SQUEE!!

Is Alexander ever gonna play the faire up here again? If not, then I no longer have a reason to go!

FYI - more press

"The Disappearance of Heather Alexander" has also appeared in the San Francisco Bay Times, in a slightly altered form. HTML link this time :)

Lyrical Help?

  • Mar. 12th, 2008 at 6:45 PM
I usually get the lyrical image, but I'm stumped on this one. Anyone can help this poor soul?

From Wintertide:
"...Will dance in a circle of six and nines"

Sounds interesting. Sounds magical. Sounds hard to keep clean. :) But really, what is such a circle?

Faerieworlds FYI

  • Mar. 12th, 2008 at 1:54 PM
The main stage schedule on faerieworlds.com currently has Tricky Pixie scheduled to perform at 3pm on Friday.  Which means, apparently, that we are Kicking Off The Entire Festival.

Wow.

It could be the best slot or the worst slot ever, depending on how you look at it.
I have decided to be thrilled.
Please, everyone be thrilled with me--repost this and show up!!  We will need your beautiful dancing selves more than ever!

Get your Pixie On.
Faerieworlds Main Stage 3pm, Friday August 1st:
TRICKY PIXIE!

I am in Austin, TX for the next two weeks, with lots of shows scheduled.  I would love to meet any of you who might happen to be in town--please know that you are welcome at any show of mine.  All the details and directions are here.

Okay guys!

  • Mar. 3rd, 2008 at 11:41 PM
I'm just wondering who might be heading to norwescon in order to see Alec?
That is the main reason why I am going (friday only).

Canaler's Love Song

  • Feb. 20th, 2008 at 12:08 PM
someone I know used to have a copy of heather singing Canaler's Love Song but has since lost it. Anybody know what album it's from so I can find them a new copy??

Long time lurker, first time poster

  • Feb. 17th, 2008 at 9:24 AM
Anybody know if the cover art to "Balance of Nature" and "WinterTide" can be found online anywhere? I'd like to have it on my iPod, but it wasn't included when I ripped the songs from my CDs into iTunes. I was able to "cheat" with the Tricky Pixie album by using a photo of the group, but can't find the art for Alec's albums anywhere!

Well, on Polyvore there is a new group called "The Attic" where the idea is you create a set that looks like someone's attic. Of course the first thing that came to mind was Up In The Loft, so I had to make a set as a tribute to that song. I thought you guys might like to see it.

I'm particularly fond of my choice of embroidery samplers. )
