Remember when this image was exciting? Me either.

i did something tonight i very very rarely do... in fact i can remember the last time i did it...

i went to a blockbuster movie on opening day.

the last time i waited in line for a movie was the second Lord of the Rings film. (which sucked. both the wait and the film).

i saw Snakes on a Plane and Cloverfield opening day, but not to a sold out audience.

anyway... of course... i saw 'The Dark Knight' aka Batman VII.

I have to get up early, so i'm not going to rant about it now... but i will say that overall i enjoyed it, but thought it was an hour long. it has a very easy stopping point, at which time i thought we were nearly in the clear, and then there is an hour of speeches after that point.

i sat next to a horse and a lady who repeated every punchline after the actors said it, and just behind a guy who did the same thing. well, he yelled the punchlines after they said it. overall the audience was alright though.

we asked for the 3:10 show, and they sold us tickets to the 3:40 show without telling us. when i asked she said the 3:10 show was sold out... right on. would have been awesome to tell us when we bought the tickets. anyway, we waited a half hour.

i had planned on going later, but everyone said sunday would be even worse and i dont think i could have waited one minute more anyway... i'm a child.

    Cat pilling
Did mixing the wormer in food work?  No.  Did putting it in pill pockets work?  Only the first time, and I had to break the doses up into several chunks to fit in the pockets, so multiple pill pockets needed for a full dose.  I knew I had to pill Tammy, and she was awful as always.  Kakarot actually ate most of his in the wet food and the last bit in a pill pocket.  Piggy.  I had to pill Vegeta, but he was easy.  I put the wormer in pill pockets for Arlene, but she didn't eat them, so I had to block off the garage so she couldn't escape, chase her down, and totally terrify her.  She was easy once I caught her and pilled very well.  I SHOULD have just pilled the kittens, but they are piggies and will eat their wet food/pill mix eventually, even if it tastes bad.  There is no way in hell I will ever be able to pill Zero or Rosie without being seriously bitten and scratched up, so they just don't get to eat until they break down and eat the probably-ill-tasting pill/food mixture.  Of COURSE Rosie had no interest in pill pockets.  Grump.  At least I now know they work on Kakarot.  I didn't try pill pockets on Zero - I think I have a better chance of him eating the food mixture, rather than taking  arisk of him eating the pockets around the pill and then spitting it out.  Being feral, he is used to eating what he can get, and I'm sure he'll eat that mess eventually.

End result - all but 2 definitely pilled.  Lots of wasted food/pill mixture down the drain.  Last 2 - just hope they are the ones to eat their food and get the right dose without other cats nibbling (HA, you might think, but I just caught Vegeta licking it) or eating both shares.  I tried to feed Arlene after her terror, but she wouldn't eat, so she might get into it too.  Sigh.  Hope for the best.

    Stargate Randomness
So, the cool thing about finally having the whole series on DVD is that I can randomly pull a disc out from the later seasons  and watch it, whatever it is (since I don't think it's cheating to watch the later seasons without Gen, because it will be a long time before we get to them AND I've already seen most of the episodes already).

This morning I pulled out another episode where Amanda Tapping gets to stretch her acting skills a little bit by playing herself, but a sociopathic self that has nothing to do with interdimensional timelines.  If I say anything else it will be a spoiler.   But it was fun seeing her act the very subtle differences of character.

Epiphanyrun, you have Stargate Atlantis on your list of interests... did you watch SG1 very much? What do you think of the character playing the new lady doctor?  She originally starred in a very short-lived (one season) sci-fi show called "FireFly", made by Joss Whedon, the creator of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.  (Buffy and Angel were theoretically teeny-bopper aimed shows about 10 years ago, but now have quite a cult following of adults, some of whom missed them the first time around).  Just thought I might spread the fandom, if you're interested and like the character.

    I can't stand the rain.
The rain is pouring outside! I would dance around in it to wash away all my sorrows and frustrations if I actually believed that would do any good. Today hasn't been the best of days, and I wish I knew a way to make it better. A brief interlude with the one who usually makes me smile only served to accentuate my woes. I like the smell of rain, but I kind of miss the sun. All this overcast weather isn't helping my mood much.

Fuck me. The hair and the earring and the lace and leather and the GLOVES...yes please.

Kinda almost looks like Baby!Boromir, if Boromir were a bit more foppish, eh?

It's from Lorna Doone, also starring Clive Owen and Polly Walker. Woe, it's not on DVD. *sigh*

Still a bit out of sorts. Well, weekend's almost here....

    The Dark Knight
The Dark Knight is without a doubt my favorite flick of the summer. It meets not only my expectations, but meets the hype and stomps on it--HARD!

    Quick Score: A

One warning, however, much like Tim Burton's sequel to Batman, Batman Returns, The Dark Knight is not a film for young kids. I don't think that anyone will be overly surprised at this, but some parents did pull their tykes from the screening I was watching.

    Descend for further darkness )

By the way, everything you've heard about Ledger and Eckhart's performances is true. Both are amazing. Ledger is mermerizing, but, to me, not more so than Eckhart's DA Harvey Dent. In fact, I fell so deeply into Harvey's story that when the payoff for his character occurs, I still muttered a 'no!'out of horror. Unlike previous comic-book films that chose to give us multiple opponents for the hero and robbing all sides of value, DK nicely balances everyone's screen time and even the cast outside of the main three stars are given great scenes. Heck, even the mobsters are interesting!

    Bringing pets to Europe
So, we found a way to ship the cats to Spain today. It's both doable AND affordable. How's that for a double-whammy? I did a bunch of research on this several months ago, most of which led to dead ends, and so I dropped it and left it as a festering potential stress-source.

Why we are taking our pets to Europe )

But it's a long rant with a happy (we hope) ending. Delta Airlines ships pets from Abq to Madrid for a reasonable rate. They have what sounds like a very good program. Their rep was amazingly informative and took our concerns about anyone handling Menace seriously. She's also well-informed on what exactly needs to go with the animals to make it through customs. We can't actually reserve a slot until 13 days beforehand, but it sounds shockingly good.

All the while SB was on the phone, I was hovering, listening to his side of the conversation, reading his notes over his shoulder, and writing questions down on a notepad for him to ask. Very quickly, Menace started following me, whimpering. He wanted to be petted, cuddled, held, reassured. Elf took a nap. I reflected that one of Menace's central problems, perhaps the harbinger of trouble that has come later, is that he's so empathic. He feels the emotions of his loved ones directly with no way to distinguish self from other. If I'm insecure, he needs to be reassured. If I get furious or hysterical, he's been known to bite me. I wish I knew a way to tone down the world a little bit for him, but for now we're just going to have to keep him with us and hope for the best.

One Day as a Lion review
One Day as a Lion is the new side project from Zack De La Rocha, lead singer of Rage Against The Machine.  He's been a bit anti social in the years following the demise (and now recent return) of RATM, but he's got a side project now with Jon Theodore (former Mars Volta).  I'm quite impressed with the sound, being that it's only two guys.  Their Myspace page lists Zack on Keyboards and vocals, and Jon on Drums, but the sound is very much that of RATM, especially from the "Evil Empire" days.  Heavy and political, and that's what I like to hear.  It's about fucking time, is all I can really say.

    http://www.myspace.com/onedayasalion

There's only one song right now, "Wild International", driven by a grinding snarl of keyboard hook and dry crunchy drums, with Zack's signature lyrical style on top of it all.  Their debut EP is due out on the 22nd of July, from Anti-Records (the home of Anti-Flag).

I'd suggest listening, especially if you're tired of hearing sappy sweet bullshit all the time (not that I expect you'd be listening to that, but you always run into it no matter what these days).

    1 Week
So I have now lived in Pennsylvania for a week. I am starting to get that feeling of place, like when driving from the west part of the town towards the eastern mountains I live beneath and loving that mountain.

Moving is so hard on everyone, even (oddly) the dogs, but tonight the four of us will go rest in the grass at another one of those free concerts in the park. I'll throw some popcorn to W-dog to catch in his mouth and we'll drink strawberry lemonade and watch the fireflies. (Don't worry fellow dog-lovers who are concerned with the treatment of dogs. I'll just give him a couple of pieces so he won't suffer the ill health of too much human food). It wouldn't be ethical to throw any to L-dog because of her poor depth perception, but don't worry, I won't forget her.

    ***

I didn't know Pennsylvania was such groundhog country, but I guess that makes sense when you consider the groundhog they use to predict the weather is from Penn and the movie 'Groundhog Day' takes place in Penn.

It's also deer country. I've never seen so many dead deer in my life as driving through Ohio and Penn, but I've also seen 3 live deer which isn't bad for one week and considering I have yet to enter the actual woods. I wonder if I'll see some in my neighborhood since I'm so close to the mountains.

I'm in love with this webcomic:

Hell, anything with Godzilla in it is enough to make me giddy, and a whole comic that revolves around Godzilla?  Heaven.  Plus Mazinger Z makes lots of guest appearances, basically screwing around and drinking with Godzilla.  Awesome.

omigod I´m going on a diet when I get back to the states.

So far I haven´t been able to get anywhere near any postcards, except for the one free post card the museum in Alcoi gave us (plus about 100€ in free books--they´re gorgeous and make me wish I cared more about the neolithic). Sorry guys, but it looks like I´ll be stateside before your mad libs are.

I miss everyone. I miss green chili. Everyone here calls me Jenn and can´t seem to shake the habit. I am deleriously happy.

I'd better be getting some hardcore overtime pay for this.
So I had a dream last night that had to do with a con, and being in Japan, and trying to break into a house that was being remodeled by hiding in the garage, except the remodeling crew found me and chased me around the neighborhood with a hammer.

    It was FUCKED UP.

Also, I slept like crap. Kept waking up...

Also, Denise roped me into working in pharmacy for her today. So this makes.... nine days I'll be working with no day off. Rrrrrrgh. At least I supposedly get Monday off. Now to see if Mr. Williams can give me next Saturday and Sunday off as well. If so, then I'm gonna get totally wasted at my dad's house.

Off to get Syd medicine and go to work...

It did not rain in the evening, so we worked on the patio. We are now calling it a patio. It's amusing how large the smaller gaps look when the larger gaps are filled, so we just had to draw a line and declare ourselves done by reason of aggravation. We'd reached a point where it was impossible to cut filler pieces without shattering the rock, so we could only smash flagstones and hope that we got suitable sizes. Well, we were going for no gaps larger than a 3yo's foot, which is actually a useful rule-of-thumb, and we achieved that.

On Saturday, we plan to level. After that, we fill the gaps with pea gravel and it is DONE.

Luggage also arrived yesterday. That was prompt. I'm excited about the Weekender Wheelies: http://www.ebags.com/ebags/weekender_wheelie_special_buy/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=89051 Hey, it's only luggage, but you might as well be excited about things. I think they will be delightful for traipsing around Europe. On the rule of "no black airline bags," I ordered a blue one for SB and an orange one for me. For an unknown reason, they sent me red instead. But the read mesh is mixed with the black to make a kind of burgundy, and I like it.

The new big clothing suitcase is purple. We already own one that is floral. Shouldn't be too bad to pull our luggage from baggage claim.

    Cats!
PS. I moved Tess over to our house, as Mom is moving soon. She is pretty well aquainted with Moby, although I wouldn't say they're exactly friends, and right now they're working out territory. So far, I think Tess can hold her own, despite being half Moby's size. But Moby's a bit fat and doesn't seem to have that much 'outside' cat experience.  Hopefully Tess will sufficiently kick his ass so she'll be comfortable here and so will he.

thats a lot of reading baby

So its done!  I have read every single post that I have ever posted..And most of the comments.  I don't know what to think about myself back then.  I was very depressed, very negative, very close minded, very much a bigot.   I was.  I mean I loved people of all kinds.  And I still do but man I was judgemetal and its sad.  I thought I was right at all times.  And now that I can look back on things I wasn't right  a lot of time.  I said a lot of stuff about people I wish I wouldn't have said.  I have always know that I had a lot of peoplems with depression, with how I delt with depression.  Man I was troubled.  I turned to a lot of stuff to escape things and man that just made things worse.  Not that ignoring them is better, but dam.  I have turned to cutting, sex, pills, smoking.. You name it.  I probly would have turned to drinking if access to harder drinks.  Because beer just isn't so good.  I have disliked so many people in my day.  I used to say that I didn't want to.  And I didn't, but man I was an angry kid.  I was mad at the world.

I guess the only way to change is to see what you truly are... *smile* Maybe I am on the right track.

    Love ya

    Worst. Trailer. Ever.
I can't believe I watched this entire thing, just to see how bad it could get. It seems like they gave their ad guys a couple of old logos, some old sound clips, and said "it has to be the length of the theme song." Combine that with some motion graphics plug-ins, and you have this. It is horrible. But. But. If this game somehow contains any of the greatness of the original 3 Duke Nukem games for my DS, I'll probably still give them my money. I just want this as an unlockable extra so I can watch it forever.

    Boston Vacation plans...
So today is laundry, lab homework, and chapter reading day.  Also I'm going to make some people happy on the east coast and come up with a travel plan for when Gen and I are there next month.
I want to show off Boston - my favorite places, maybe some historical sites and the Art Museum. Gen collects older Asian block prints and I remember there used to be an Asian Art section.  If not, it'll still be interesting from a World History perspective, I think.  I kind of want to go to the New England Aquarium, or at least the outside where you can see the seals.  The seals at that aquarium are what inspired me to pursue a degree in the sciences.  Then of course there's Harvard Square (where my favorite music venue Club Passim is located),  and where I spent much of my later teen years when I was dating my first boyfriend, and maybe Somerville, (massachusetts lesbian mecca, second only to North Hampton), and home of the Diesel.   I'm tempted to track down the Harvard Square Swing Dancing Group again, but I'm not sure if my heart would be in it.  And then of course there's friends and family to consider.
I should promise 2 whole days to my grandmother(hopefully one of those days will be a family party), 2 days to my Dad (including camping in my childhood camping place, and maybe in VT). I hope to visit an old family friend in VT, a college professor who throughout my childhood life kept my eye and my mothers expectations on me going to college.  Then there's Bree and Liz, my oldest friends who I try and see every time I'm there.  I've known Bree since I was 4, and Liz since I was 14 or so.   Wow... it's going to be a busy trip, because I also want just a day or two with Gen that doesn't necessarily involve anyone else. I think that will fit into the Boston days.  My Dad, persnickety travel companion that he is, will probably accompany us to VT. I expect it will be nice though. And I plan to be nice and not too stressed out.

    A Friday Berin-esque Post
I like to treat myself to fast food on Fridays. Carl's Jr is right down the street and has become my favorite. So the question for today is: Fish sandwich or Santa Fe Chicken?
I would opt for a burger, but that's what I plan on cooking up on the grill for dinner.

Oh, and since this is New Mexico, I plan on putting green chili on the fish sandwich. There already is chili on the Santa Fe chicken.
