[During all the hustle and bustle of the grand opening of Albergo Chiaro, a man stands just beyond the crowd, leaning against one of the massive pillars. He had arrived earlier in the day to sort things out before it got busy, and had only just gotten back from the town centre. While he was curious as what kinds of people were invited to the hotel, he had been much more interested in meeting the locals... and finding himself a job.

It's not like he really needed to further his education - he did plenty of studying back when he was younger. Making sure he had money to send back home was higher on his priority list, and he was sure he could make the professors see his way of thinking.

Being an experienced lawyer, he had a way with words.
]

Hmm, looks like I'm the oldest one here... Wonder if I'll have to set an example?
... What a scary thought.

[amongst all the newcomers in the hotel lobby, there's one woman who isn't completely awestruck by the magnificence of the Albergo Chiaro. Ema Skye is comfortably seated on one of the lounge chairs, people-watching and twisting her hair idly. She surveys the new guests with a look of slight surprise on her face.]

Hm. I didn't expect there to be so many people coming here for the grand opening...

[ooc; GRAND (re)OPENING! Feel free to make your first posts, or reply here and talk to Ema~ Have fun! ]

[edit; whoooah, sorry guys! wireless air card i took on the trip turned out to be not-so-reliable. ended up with almost no signal the whole time. can you find it in your hearts to forgive me? :< ]

Hm.

It's been a little quiet around here lately, hasn't it~?

What are you all up to? ♥ Is there some party going on I haven't been invited to? Are the classes here really that hard? Honies, I'm far from educated and even I can manage~

[If one walked by the practice rooms, one would hear a well-trained, operatic voice hitting notes that seem like they should shatter glass.

Sharpay is slowly learning to accompany herself on the harp - she's doing a pretty good job, but she knows she won't learn unless she practices often. She sings:]

Deh vieni, non tardar, o gioja bella
Vieni ove amore per goder t'appella

[She pauses; she missed a note - frowns and repeats.]

Vieni ove amore per goder t'appella
Per goder ... goder ... t'appella
Finche non splende in ciel notturna face

[The door is somewhat open, though she didn't mean for it to be...]

[handwriting is a little messier than usual]

What do you call those... Uh... They look kind of like a cross between a monkey and a bear, and they have really long nails, and they have a penchant for climbing things? It also moves extremely slow, which is probably a good thing.

...

Secondly, how would you go about removing one from your person? The death-grip on my shirt was only cute for the first ten minutes.

[Out on the beach, a sturdy, engraved oak trunk washes up on the shore. It's obviously ancient and expensive, but also somewhat battered and very water-logged. It lies still on the shore for some time, and then the lid is pushed open from the inside. A young and elegantly dressed but soaking wet girl climbs out onto the sand, looking around with a broad smile on her face.]

Am I...outside?

I am! That must be the sky above! And that over there, the sea. It's even more beautiful than I could have imagined!

I think I will 'splash' in the 'waves' now, as I have heard. Excuse me...could anyone tell me what exactly is 'splash'? It sounds like something I would very much like to experience.

Who wants to play a game?

I've written a few riddles here for you. The first person to bring all the correct answers to room 117 gets a special prize from me!

Hey all residents and other people here! I almost forgot to introduce myself because I think I'm having a little too much fun practicing around here--I like the scenery around here a lot and unlike many places where I have been it does not feel too crowded. Is it because they actually give you a lot of space?

[There is the sound of a tune from a guitar that doesn't seem to continue the same lines of music--it's really just him strumming the guitar.]

Oh yeah, my name is Demyx and hi to the new people who came here! I can't wait to talk with all of you! I hope you are all having a great time here. Oh and by the way Axel, when do you want to go out?

Whoah. This place is nothing like home - everything is different. Maybe I'd imagined a place like this before, but if I had I'm pretty sure I'd associated it with rich men. It's amazing! A country boy like me shouldn't be in a place like this; it'll take a lot of getting used to.

Who knew buildings could be made of glass?? Before now I had only seen buildings of brick or wood. It's unthinkable. If I told anyone back home about this, they would think I was crazy. And all the water! There's a lake back at home, but it's definitely different from the sea. The air here seems fresher, colder, but the sun is warmer too.

This is like a vacation. A long, strange one. It'll take some getting used to, but I'm not complaining. I just wish I could have brought a little bit of home with me. . .

[Having been on the island for around two months, Sanji had more or less given up on his crew coming by soon. They had most likely gone down south to follow the African coast, meaning they wouldn't be going by Italy again for a long time. With his working in the kitchens, he'd earnt enough money to buy new clothes, some decent knives, and never had to worry about running out of cigarettes again. Joy~

[He'd just found a place that sold King Ground, which were the type of cigarette he first started smoking on Zeff's ship. This put him in a nostalgic mood - so much so, he started singing under his breath as he walked through the gardens towards the hotel...]

Sign a song of sixpence, a pocket full of rye,
Four and twenty blackbirds baked in a pie.

When the pie was opened, the birds began to sing.
Was that not a tasty dish to set before a king?

The King was in his counting house, counting out his money.
The Queen was in the parlour, eating bread and honey.

The Maid was in the garden, hanging out the clothes,
When down came a blackbird and snapped off a rose.

[ooc: know where this nursery rhyme comes from?]

[A flyer is tacked up in the lobby, above a stack of blank questionaires.]

Notice to Hotel Guests:

My name is Mia Fey, and I'm a defense attorney staying in the hotel and assisting on both the murder cases and the alleged kidnappings. I'm interested in having a little more information on the latter, so if anyone wouldn't mind answering a few questions, I'd appreciate it. Feel free to leave them here, or, if you'd prefer the anonymity, deliver them to me at Room 323.

Incidentally, if anyone is ever in need of any legal advice or information, please don't hesitate to contact.

Sincerely,

Mia Fey.

((ooc: Answer the questions in the comments and I'll just assume they were delivered to Mia! If you'd rather *speak* to her, though, you can do an action post assuming she's hanging around the lobby))

[Noticing a disturbing trend of people not calling the island Kamina Island, Kamina has decided to let newcomers know right away where they are. Step one was to put the National Flag of Australia in front of the hotel. Next, he found a big bucket of red paint and painted this on the wall. At the moment he is painting on the opposite wall. He sounds out the only word he knows how to write-]

Kuh Ah Muh Ee Nuh Ah

[The full message he intends to write is Welcome to Kamina Island, Loyal Subjects! He already wrote the sounds he knew in Welcome and left some space. The message on the wall reads-]

           K    M      KAMINA

[he steps back from the wall, and admires his work]

That's probably clear enough.

[A note is tacked-up almost haphazardly on the bulletin board. The handwriting is tight, uniform and entirely legible, but extremely jagged and almost scratchy, as if it was written by a terribly annoyed individual.]

PIANO TUTOR REQUIRED
Beginner level student, but a quick study. Will be in one of the piano practice rooms. Blond hair.

To the first person who wants to answer this notice: tear down the sign when you come to see me.

[[ooc: Mello will be pissing vinegar because he's terribly behind his other piano classmates in skill and ability, but please- bear with him! ALSO, just because Mello ordered that his sign be torn down doesn't mean that the first person should necessarily remember to do it, NOR does it suggest that he's not more than available to be bothered by multiple people! :D Welcome to all!]]

[A small note has been written on the back of a blank piece of sheet music, the writing neat and curly, posted to the bulletin board.]

I'm curious as to if anyone enjoyed the philosophical discussion we had today. In keeping with the same theme, I wish to know if anyone would be so kind as to compare todays notes with me.

It would be very much appreciated.

I shall be in the Statue Garden reviewing.

[out in the patio, it's started to rain. of course, such rain is usually invited, but for one resident, it's not. he's stuck up in a tree where he was playing his flute, and can't help but let out a loud huff. he's yelling out to the sky with a pout.]

Oui, oui! I understand, no more flute! You could of done it much more politely, but I'll take what I can get.

[now... to get down...]

[A beautiful blonde girl, dressed in the latest clothes that are, somehow, only slightly wrinkled storms into the lobby of the hotel, dragging her trunk behind her. She drops the trunk with a loud thunk and flexes her fingers, trying to restore feeling in them. She takes a moment, tries to compose herself. No good coming in here, guns metaphorically blazing - even if the place is full of savages, she doesn't want them hauling her off and murdering her.]

Excuse me? Is there anyone here?

[No response, and she grows irritated.] Hello?!

[ooc: say hello to east high's resident drama queen, Sharpay Evans! Play nice - although she probably won't with you! ;)]

[Marluxia is in the statue garden, this time merely taking a stroll along the green-lined paths. Occasionally he glances at the carved stone figures, eyes pensive. His voice is quiet when he speaks; you probably wouldn't be able to hear what he's saying unless you were very near him:]

Mm. A small pity I could not attend the festivities.

[considering socializing holds much importance for him - particularly as he would be able to make connections with other people from different countries far easier here than in France - it seems somewhat strange he would not attend such an event. What oh what could have occupied his time?]

(OOC: Oh look at that, this mun's still alive. Apparently forgot all about the comm event though. Go me.)
