My dad got released from the hospital a couple days ago--turns out there was nothing serious going on.
In other news, a few days ago our chorus teacher announced that this year's chorus trip would be to Nashville.
Not quite as exciting as New York City last year, but the bus ride will be much more bearable. (17 straight hours on a charter bus really ought to fall under "cruel and unusual punishment.") And this time we'll actually be performing, which is nice.
I'm not really a country fan (I know, I'm from the South and don't like country, shocking, isn't it) but I can deal.
Oh, and by the way:
This Traveler IQ was calculated on Saturday, September 06, 2008 at 03:11PM GMT by comparing this person's geographical knowledge against the Web's Original Travel Blog's 3,031,279 travelers who've taken the challenge. I could have done better, but I must admit that capitals of tiny islands I can't even see on the stupid map are not my forte. |

Why can't he just stop?
I am of course talking about my father once more. He came home drunk while I was doing my maths in the lounge room. He kept staring at me and then kept saying I was doing 'beautifully' in school. Might sound nice, but when it is repeated over and over and then laced with his own self-pity it gets beyond irritating.
Then the derogatory remarks about my attitude and my mother started. When I stuck up for her, he kept saying I treat him like shit and that I hate him. God. I don't know why he is so insecure, but I wish he didn't try and dump it on me!
Then he said I am not affectionate enough, because I don't like being touched...which he claims is my mother;'s fault. Then he kept saying that my mother's a heroin addict...yeah mr hypocrite. He got all defensive when I called him up on it, saying he only took speed, not anything with needles....LIKE THAT IS SO MUCH FUCKING BETTER???
What the fuck did I do to deserve this? Every, god damn, fucking weekend. I am so sick of this shit.

"No woman can call herself free who does not own and control her body. No woman can call herself free until she can choose consciously whether she will or will not be a mother." Margaret Sanger
It is a Saturday, not even 6 am and I am wide awake. I went to bed early last night, around 10, so now I am really awake, that and I slept terribly and constantly woke up.
I was supposed to go for my walk/jog this morning, but it is still raining. So I am going to have to go later when I find a time when it isn't raining.
Have so much work to do this weekend. Exams begin this week....so of course teachers expect you to give up your weekends to do work...not likely! I never study, can't sit still that long.
Oh I am loving this rain.
Allons-y!
... There is freedom within, there is freedom without Try to catch the deluge in a paper cup Theres a battle ahead, many battles are lost But youll never see the end of the road While youre travelling with me
Hey now, hey now Dont dream its over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they wont win
Now Im towing my car, theres a hole in the roof My possessions are causing me suspicion but theres no proof In the paper today tales of war and of waste But you turn right over to the t.v. page
Hey now, hey now Dont dream its over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us We know they wont win
Now Im walking again to the beat of a drum And Im counting the steps to the door of your heart Only shadows ahead barely clearing the roof Get to know the feeling of liberation and relief
Hey now, hey now Dont dream its over Hey now, hey now When the world comes in They come, they come To build a wall between us Dont ever let them win ...

Ok, so what's this we hear today? The London 2012 Olypics stadium is going to cost half a billion pounds to build! Only to be knocked down after the events are over?! OK, so WTF? They are going to take half a billion pounds, from tax payers, whether said tax payers are in favour of the Olympics coming here or not, to build a stadium for 2 weeks of games, only to destroy the stadium afterwards?
As if to add insult to injury, this is on the same day that it's announced the the government wont be giving out money to help those who are struggling to get by in this increasingly costly world with ever more expensive gas and electric bills. Well that's alright, a few thousand pensioners may freeze to death this winter, but at least we'll have a shiny new stadium for 2012... for 2 weeks. Nice to know the government have their priorities in order! /sarcasm.
Also, how is it I seem to be the only one concerned about this Super Collider machine that's being switched on in Switzerland next week, which has a 1 in 50 million chance of creating a black hole which could engulf the Earth? OK, so it's a 1 in 50 million chance... but that's a 1 in 50 million chance I don't wanna take!
Yeah I tend to get super paranoid about stuff like this, and maybe I watch too much Doctor Who... and maybe I shouldn't have watched The Horns of Nimon last night (a Doctor Who episode which focuses on a black hole that they just happened to be showing on telly), but they can say it's safe until the cows come home, but I'm still gonna be fretting about it all week!
In other news, I'm off to an anti-vivisection demo tomorrow, so wish me luck with that. I was hoping to make it to the protest in Worcester last week, for when David Cameron was there, sprouting his bullshit. Unfortunately I wasn't able to go, so was a bit gutted by that, so I am happy about going to tomorrow.
Apart from that there's nothing much else to write about, so I'll leave it there for now, so until next time (unless of course we all get sucked into a black hole and crushed into a singularity by then),
Stay Beautiful,
Aissa.
P.S. Excuse any typos, not slept well recently due to a persistent cold, and haven't spell checked due to terminal laziness! |

Dear MoveOn member,
Did you watch Sarah Palin's speech last night? The speech told us a lot about her.
It told us that she can distort the facts and deliver mean-spirited zingers with the best of them. It told us that if Rush Limbaugh or Ann Coulter ever need a stand-in, she'd be a great pick.
It told us that she can be condescending and dismissive of the real work Barack Obama did helping real people on the South Side of Chicago. It told us that she can uphold the long Republican tradition of lying about Democratic tax cuts—even though Obama's plan would give Americans a bigger break than McCain's.
But the speech—written by one of President Bush's speechwriters—didn't tell us the truth about Sarah Palin's extremist positions. And the more that people know her far-right views, the less they support her. (There's a partial list below.)
One of the best ways to get the word out about Palin is to write a letter to the editor of your local paper. Today's a great day to write because this is very relevant—it just happened last night. Plus, our online tool makes it easy and has great tips. Please take a few minutes to write a quick letter to the editor now: http://pol.moveon.org/lte?campaign_id=95&id=13709-3986597-_.73jQx&t=3
Palin's speech and the reaction to it also made clear why McCain picked her. It wasn't a decision about who's most qualified to serve a heart-beat away from the presidency—it was a political decision about pleasing the far-right base of the Republican party.
Writing a letter to your local paper is a great way to make sure voters understand that. The opinion pages are the most widely-read pages of the newspaper. Write today, and your letter's a lot more likely to get published because it's so topical. It'll help sway the editorial board too.
Here are a bunch of points you might want to include in your letter:
* Palin recently said that the war in Iraq is "God's task." She's even admitted she hasn't thought about the war much—just last year she was quoted saying, "I've been so focused on state government, I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq." 1, 2 * Palin has actively sought the support of the fringe Alaska Independence Party. Six months ago, Palin told members of the group—who advocate for a vote on secession from the union—to "keep up the good work" and "wished the party luck on what she called its 'inspiring convention.'" 3 * Palin wants to teach creationism in public schools. She hasn't made clear whether she thinks evolution is a fact.4 * Palin doesn't believe that humans contribute to global warming. Speaking about climate change, she said, "I'm not one though who would attribute it to being manmade." 5 * Palin has close ties to Big Oil. Her inauguration was even sponsored by BP. 6 * Palin is extremely anti-choice. She doesn't even support abortion in the case of rape or incest. 7 * Palin opposes comprehensive sex-ed in public schools. She's said she will only support abstinence-only approaches. 8 * As mayor, Palin tried to ban books from the library. Palin asked the library how she might go about banning books because some had inappropriate language in them—shocking the librarian, Mary Ellen Baker. According to Time, "news reports from the time show that Palin had threatened to fire Baker for not giving "full support" to the mayor." 9 * She DID support the Bridge to Nowhere (before she opposed it). Palin claimed that she said "thanks, but no thanks" to the infamous Bridge to Nowhere. But in 2006, Palin supported the project repeatedly, saying that Alaska should take advantage of earmarks "while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist." 10
The plain fact of the matter is that Sarah Palin did a bang-up job delivering a Karl Rove-style political attack speech last night. That makes her a skilled politician but it doesn't make her views any more palatable for voters. Americans don't really want another far-right, anti-science ideologue in the White House.
Please help get the word out about where Sarah Palin really stands on the issues. http://pol.moveon.org/lte?campaign_id=95&id=13709-3986597-_.73jQx&t=4
Thanks for all you do.
