The White Sox rallied to get Scott Podsednik into the All-Star Game last year as the "thirty second man." After the Manager, Players, and fans vote, five people are selected to be the third second man. That was good Spod Almighty last year. This year, it's AJ Pierzynski. AJ has helped bring a World Series to Chicago. He plays the game hard, and gives it his all. He's been derided by some as the most hated player in baseball not named Barry Bonds. Who cares what those people think?

Go to WhiteSox.com, and cast votes for AJ as the thirty second man for the AL. Do it for me. Why? Because I asked you to. Whether you like baseball or not, cast a dozen or two votes. That's all I ask. If you did more, that'd be great. I, and several friends, will be voting every spare moment we get, as there's no vote limit. If you can put in a few, that'd be wonderful. But help me help my team. Let's get it done. Let's stuff those ballots. I'm from Chicago, and even if you're not, you've gotta experience one of these events before you up and croak.

If one of your players were in the race, and none of mine were, I'd help you. That might sound cheesy, and it is, but it's sincere. Help me out here. Pierzynski plays solid ball.

I, on behalf of the Chicago White Sox, need a favor.

Tadahito Iguchi is in third place amongst AL second basemen. Iguchi has been an excellent second baseman, and that isn't pure fandom on my part. From making superb plays at his position to moving the runner over when Scott Podsednik is on to blasting grand slams off of Brad Lidge over the left field fence, Tadahito is a great ballplayer.

I am asking you to vote for him for second base in the American League.
A brief defense of him, before anyone compares his numbers to those of others: he bats second in a lineup that emphasizes a mixture of "small ball" and power hitting. Our 3-4-5 leads baseball in homers and RBI, but we can still get it done without huge homeruns. Scott Podsednik gets on base, and it's Iguchi's job to move him over before anything else. He doesn't have the most RBI of second basemen or anything, but this is a case where the numbers mislead.

That all said, his numbers, homer-wise and RBI wise, are nothing to scoff at.

Please vote for Tadahito Iguchi when you're voting for the all-star game.
And, if you haven't been voting or aren't, then get on it. Voting ends tomorrow.

But, if you don't want to vote, please do, if for no other reason than to help Iguchi out. I'd appreciate it muchly. Remember, it's easy to pop in hundreds of ballots in a short amount of time, as after your first ballot, it saves your choices and then you can just click submit.

As far as email addresses go, well, let's just say that you can put in whatever and still vote.

Join me in pushing a candidate who deserves it forward. And, hell, give Ichiro Suzuki someone to talk to in the dugout!

Let's get Iguchi into the game as a starter,
Or die trying.

What will fix the M's?

Well, the season is over for the divsiion, although the Angels made a valiant effort. My team, the Seattle Mariners, were lucky to avoid 100 losses this year, but some exciting new talent (like Bucky jacobsen) emerged over the course of the season.

They fired Bob melvin, which was inevitable but maybe not fair becuse he;d been handed a team whose core all got old at once. We said goodbye to Edgar Martinez, one of the Northwest's most beloved sports icons. And we marveled at ichiro Suzuki and his combiantion of intellect and ohysical skill that drove him past geroge Sisler and into the record books.

Now, the question of everyone's mind in the Northwest -- what do the M's do to rebuild and salvage 2005? "the oregonian" suggested they go after free agent center firleder carlos beltran, who right now is busy trying to get into the World Series with Houston. I suspect beltran will want a lot of money -- I just hope he doesn't end up as a Yankee. But what can the M's do to build a team that can climb back into contiention in one or two seasons?

Hi, I just joined. I'm a big time Phils fan, but try to get involved in as many sports communities as I can. You might have seen me in other sports communities under lateralus_, but I doubt you would know me by name. Anyway, I just created this new name and discovered the community in the process so I thought I'd join and if I could pick anyone to win in the west it would be Seattle, but maybe next year.

Hello. I'm new to the community. I'm a Seattle Mariners fan 100%. I understand that they aren't doing well this year, but I think a lot of it has to do with MAJOR changes in the past couple of years. Lou leaving, Pat stepping down, Edgar's possible (most likely) retirement. Not only is it hitting hard on the baseball team, but the fans as well. In a couple of years or so, they should be winning 90 games again. Well, I hope.

~A hopeful Seattle Mariners fan
(Bre)

So far, I am reminded of 2002 where it doesnt matter how well one team plays they just cannot shake the other team. The Angels have won 8 in a row and 14 of 16 and the Rangers own the Angels in head to head competition. That year in 2002 the A's won 20 games (21?) in a row and only picked up something like 3 games in the standings on the Angels.

Here's hoping they both win 100+ games with the Angels winning just one more than the Rangers. ALCS between these two wouldnt be too shabby.

So, the Angels have the best record in the league, has anybody noticed who is the 2nd best team? Yup, the Dodgers! It's a great time to be from Southern California! Even the Padres are doing well! Together, Southern California is 59-32!

My wishes (keep in mind just this fan's WISH) for the end of the season:

AL WEST: Angels
AL CENTRAL: White Sox
AL EAST: Red Sox
AL WILDCARD: Rangers
NL WEST: Dodgers
NL CENTRAL: Astros
NL EAST: Marlins
NL WILDCARD: Padres

AL Division: Angels over White Sox, Rangers over Red Sox
NL Division: Dodgers over Marlins, Padres over Astros
AL Championship: Angels over Rangers
NL Championship: Dodgers over Padres

World Series: Angels over Dodgers (in 7!)

A boy can dream...

Ok, it's about time to get this party started. I haven't announced the existence of al_west to the LJ world at large yet (although I did mention it in seattlemariners) because, honestly, I'm not quite ready for an open house. There's no layout to speak of, and the community info still needs a lot of work. With that in mind, I'm asking for any volunteers with mad design skillz. I would like a layout that features at least a logo from each team in the division. Can anyone help out with that? Also, I need suggestions for community interests. I would like to see each team represented more or less equally.

And while I'm here, feel free to introduce yourselves. My name is Brian, and I've been a Mariners fan since my family moved to Western Washington in '84. Yes, I saw a lot of bad baseball.
