In the World of FFX, Spira, the Al Bhed are somewhat outcast from the rest of society. Between the three humoid species, the Al Bhed are the only ones that do not follow the teachings of Yeveon and use ancient machina (machines) to live and to defend against Sin. This is the reason why a majority of the others dislike, even prejudice, against the Al Bhed. Sadly, the Al Bhed do not get much recognition for their achievements; such as helping maintenance of Blitzball machina.
The Al Bhed language is actually very simple for those that know English. Although the language is just jumbled-up letters, the pronunciation is a mix of a few other languages; Hawaiian, Russian, French and the original format; Welsh.

And we are the Al Bhed (fans)! If your favorite character is Rikku, all the better. :)
