Am I insane to believe this? I hope not…

I’m sorry if my writing skills lack the “gen-say-qua” needed. I know that is a French word and I’m sure I’ve misspelled it, but my understanding of it’s meaning comes from family tradition. You do know that the Native America people of Appalachia learned French long before they learned English. I know this means style, technique and something that is beyond words, but writing is about words. I hope my skills as a wordsmith will grow as I continue to tale the story that was given to me by a ghost.

The love of my life moved into this old house in 1985, I moved in with him in 1992. He called it the Boat House, because seen from the side, this huge house looks a lot like an old steam driven paddle wheeler. Only a foolish captain would run his ship aground so high up in the mountains.

It was like living in another century, fetching water from the spring house, keeping chickens, minding the landlord’s cattle, heating with wood, growing a year’s supply of produce and putting it up in cans. We no longer live there. We did not want to raise our children in a two-story tent. The house is rotting into the damp ground and is a cold and drafty place filled with angry mean ghosts from a horrible knifing that happened there during the late 1920’s. I can blather on about this all day, but I won’t now…

In 1996, a good friend of ours received a commission from the Rockefeller family to travel to Ireland and do water colors of some of the old properties and landmarks that their first immigrant ancestors always talked about, and paint portraits of a few of their family members who still lived in the old country. Walt Hewes needed a place to store his winter clothes, boxes of printed paintings and unsold works, and other things he would not need on his transatlantic adventure. In exchange, he promised to paint the house and I DON”T mean put a fresh coat of latex on it either…

I’m working my ass off. We’ve been out of town for days, seeing Grateful Dead shows and traveling and it hasn’t rained a bit so the garden is just this side of dead. Also, the electric water pump is dead, again, and it will be awhile before we have the cash to replace it. So, it’s like living in the previous century, toting water up from the spring box by hand, carrying it the full 200 feet to the kitchen, up at least 20 feet, then up a crookedy flight of stairs to the grow room to water the indoor plants, all in the burning heat of the day.

Okay, I’ve got that chore down, now on to the garden plants, a few less steps, so I’m hauling more, and going faster. I want my tomatoes and hot peppers to be happy. Hell, I might be able to pay off a bar tab if I can harvest enough of these green fruits of fire. But, I’m slopping water everywhere, and I’ve made my path a muddy mess. I’m also getting lightheaded, working in the burning sun, not eating, stoned as can be, slipping, muddy, hot, the world grays out, the buckets of water go everywhere, cooling, I’m unconscious…

As I come to I realize I haven’t fallen so badly, and the buckets haven’t rolled off into the poison ivy or the briars. I sit up, stars sparkle in my eyes and fade. No…I’m not going to pass out again. Someone is handing me a cool glass of fresh spring water and patting my back. I look up and see…

The girl in the icon…ghostly pale, no, real light, her curly hair turning golden at the ends, I look in her eyes and I can see the spring house. She laughs, and I can see the branch flowing away past the little shack. Yup, I can see right through her. My world starts graying out again, when she says, “Don’t be fear’d. I didn’t step out here t’ hurt ya none.” I shake my head, trying to clear my thoughts. “I’s slipped on dis path many a times myself,’ my ghost says, “an’ if’n ya cares to know, I’ll try an’ tell ya all about my life, why I stayed after da rest done left wit’ da Yankee army, why I still cares about dis here garden.”

I try to form words, to voice the thousand questions that are racing through my mind, when I hear the rattle a truck and trailer crossing the cattle grate. It’s the lawn service guys leaving the cemetery. They got a contract to clear the grounds and open up the sight above, to expand the old cemetery for more graves. I’ve rescued a few perennial flowers from the old slave graves; unmark sunken spots in the weedy side of the graveyard. Now they’re all mowed over, and new plots are marked out with ground paint and little numbered pegs. The guys are pointing at me and laughing, I realize I’m sitting in the mud still, my wet t-shirt clings to me and I burn with embarrassment.

“Don’t worry none about them, they’re just fools,” my ghost reappears to me once they go down the highway, gunning the engine of the big diesel pickup truck. “You remembers dat daylily you moved, da one dat blooms silvery an’ pink? Dat was mine, it marked where my love laid me t’ rest. Our boy built dat house. Oh, I wish’t I’d lived to see it, him treated just like white folk…”

and she faded away again…only to visit me in random dreams, sharing snippets of the toil and strain of her life…

Hi,
My name is Hannah. I'm new to Livejournal and I was researching into topics or communities that I could be apart of.
I am a member of a paranormal group and ghost hunting is my favourite hobby. I have always believed in spirits, ghosts but I have also always been frightened of the unknown. There is nothing more exciting then investigating haunted buildings and to be able to communicate with spirits, definitely fills me with adrenaline.

strange things occuring

Hi all,
I joined this community several years ago, cos I'm fascinated with ghost stories, though i have always been pretty much of a skeptic myself. I can say though, that, I have leant towards believing in ghosts as oppose to not; in other words, was 90% believing in them. -- I've had a few things happen to me when I was younger to make me wonder, however, now, I have got quite a few things happening in my place and, I am wondering what you think. and I would like some answers as the events that have been occurring lately have been getting quite annoying.

OK, first a bit of background I guess is always a good start. I live in a two-bedroom unit which is one of eight that were built in 1980. I believe there was a pretty big house on this block which was knocked down for the purpose. -- I am unsure about anything to do with the house; the history or whatever. I aim to ask a neighbour or see if I can find some history of the street online. - I feel so weird talking this way, as it's just not me but anyway. things have certainly been happening around here which I just can not explain.
I have been living here for six years now. and maybe about three years after I moved in, I woke up one morning to find the back door wide open (when I had shut it the night before.) what was even more fascinating about this was the door handle was still in the locked position. Even if I had of opened the door, I would have left the leaver thing on the handle unlocked; it makes more sense hey?!
I wondered about that for a while, then dismissed it.
Then, fast forwarding til about two months ago now, I had a couple of friends boarding with me. I was at work, and as we'd planned to go swimming at a friends place, I had asked one of my friends if they could bring my swimmers with them as I'd be meeting them there that evening. After trying to remember where the pair was that I liked, and couldn't remember, I just told them to bring my new pair, which i told them where they were.
That night, I went to get into bed, and, I found my old pair of swimmers; the ones I couldn't find anywhere, nor get them to find. (I am unsure how long they'd been there because I am blind, so therefore, just found them as I climbed under the covers.) course my friends said that they hadn't put them there.
Then, all was normal again up until a few days ago. My friends left about a month ago so I'm on my own. Last friday, I got home from work to find my back door, again, wide open. I was slightly annoyed about this, since it was hot and I had wanted to keep the house cool. What was even more annoying was the fact my screen door was also unlocked, meaning, that anyone could have just walked in; luckily they didn't.
Weekend was fine. Monday morning though, back door was wide open again. I shut it during the day as it was hot and wanted to keep the heat out and cold air (from airconditioner, in.) Alas it wasn't to be. Every time i went to the back door, it was wide open.
I spoke to a friend about the happenings and he suggested I make sure the door and locks were secure. I rattled the door for him, and a couple of times previously, had done it to make sure the lock was firm; it was. there is no way the door could open in the wind or whatever.
Monday night, I shut my door and said out loud "I want this door shut. it's still very hot outside." but the door, again, was wide open the next morning; with the lock in position on the handle as usual.
The next time I went out, I decided to get my big heavy perkins brailler to put near the back door; against it.
nothing more happened til today. I had a friend here last night, and we had been talking about the situation and occasionally making jokes like "everything from now on, is the ghosts fault. all those dirty dishes are the ghosts fault" etc etc.
This morning, my friend went outside the back to toilet her guide dog, and found the container for my new Dycen vaccum cleaner outside on the back step. The last time my cleaner was used, the container was put back on the cleaner, once emptied. and here it was, outside, for some reason. No-one had touched it since a couple of weeks ago when I had my grandmother do some vaccuming for me. When my friend brought the container in, it was all dusty from being outside; something I wasn't impressed with, as it's a new cleaner.
so, what do I do? I've had to rule out any perfectly simple explanations here. If this were a ghost, which it would have to be (at least some non-human force I don't know about), what are they trying to tell me? Furthermore, by opening my backdoor all the time, do they not care about my safety? Any suggestions? How can I get this ghost/force to help me, as it did when it found me my old swimmers, instead of annoying me?
I should point out too, I also have a guide dog, and she hasn't noticed anything. I hear of animals sometimes having a sense for ghosts and things, but I haven't noticed Heartly acting any different really at all.
(cross-posting to my personal journal as well as aghostlyvoice and I'm doubting very much some on my friends page are going to believe me, but, such is life; I need answers!
Thanks,
Cheers! :)

Apologies for running this advert a second time, but I'm still looking for lots of participants for this study! This in genuine research and is not intended as spam.(Just a note for people kind enough to have done this study before - it's only possible to do it once, but please pass the info on to friends! Thanks).

If you enjoy answering questionnaires, please consider taking part in a study of paranormal, religious, and spiritual experiences, being carried out online by researchers at the Experimental Psychology department of the University of Bristol, UK.

If you have had one or more paranormal/supernatural, religious, or spiritual experiences (no matter how small or unexciting!) in your life, and you are over 16, you are eligible to take part. You don't necessarily have to be spiritual or religious, just to have had an experience that isn't easily explained by current science!

The study involves filling in questionnaires at your leisure online, and takes less than 30 minutes in total.

First off... I just joined so obviously this is my first post.
I was reading some of the earlier entries before I decided to post anything.
Quite a lot of topics/stories caught my interest, since I often experience the same thing. One of the stories which made me decide to post is the one from gipsy. Asking about if ghosts/spirits have the tendency/habit to follow us around or attach to us. I would like to share my own experience with that sort of thing, or rather, my boyfriend's experience.

Note: Shadow plays a major part in this experience. But since spirits sometimes manipulates (I believe they can) lots of things, I've decided to post this.

My boyfriend has been staying at my place for almost 4 months now. Before he moved here we would constantly talk to each other on the phone and sometimes he would share stories on how spirits seem to "like" him and follow him around.

I have my own business (Computer Rental Business) and he basically helps me out. Our building has two floors. The first floor holds different business establishments (aside from mine) while the second floor serves as our "living quarters".

One afternoon, at about 4 PM, my boyfriend took a shower and decided to go down (to the comp shop) to check on our other friend (who is also helping me out). I was still asleep. There were just the two of us at that time. On his way down he heard someone call him. Not by name, but by uttering "Pssstt..."

"Psstt.."

My boyfriend, thinking it was me, turned, and walked back to our room. He saw me still sound asleep. Bewildered, he shrugged it off and went down the stairs.

Now, you have to walk a bit (from the stairs) before reaching the back door of our shop, and most of the time it's dark since it's a closed area. So, it is possible for your shadow to get mixed with a lot of other shadows which can cause lots of crazy shapes.

For some reason, my boyfriend glanced at his own shadow.
And there he saw...
Another shadow.
It could be his. Another shadow caused by a different angled light.
Yes, that could explain it.
But then... at that time, there was only one source of light. A Fluorescent on the ceiling.
And the second shadow wasn't just a "replica" of his...
What was that second shadow? It certainly wasn't his.
Because, as my boyfriend is walking in full height, the second shadow was crouched (in a hunchback sort of way), and was walking behind my boyfriend's shadow. As if stalking him. Its steps were much smaller and quicker compared to my boyfriend's slow stride. My boyfriend didn't dare stop, he just kept walking, his eyes glued on the second shadow, until he reached the shop.

As soon as I woke up and went down to check on them, he told me what happened.

I shivered, despite the weather, because, I realized, that before I went down someone called me as well.
Not by name... but by uttering "Pssttt..."

"Pssttt..."

The only difference is, I didn't look at my own shadow.

Now I wonder, if at that moment I did look... will I see the same shadow stalking mine?

I have always been into the whole paranormal scene, and I've had this sort of "sixth sense" since I was really little. Ever since my dad died, I've been expierencing a lot more crazy stuff. Most recently, I was in the bathroom washing my face, and I hear what sounded like footsteps directly above me. They were very loud and kind of intimidating, but I went upstairs to check it out. I saw nothing. But as I walked down the stairs, I listened to my own footsteps, followed by someone elses. We were definitely walking at different paces.

And also, my mom saw a figure appear in front of her, but she was sitting down as they were standing, so she only saw the bottom half. When she was describing it to me, I told he I saw the same thing earlier this year next to my bed. The gray-green tint that layed apoun the sort of foggy exterior was eerie enough, but I told her I saw them wearing kind of shorter shorts and she was describing it to me perfectly.

I don't know, just decided to post a couple of odd things that happened to me lately. Figured it'd be a nice icebreaker for this newbie ;D

I ain't afraid of no Ghosts....

I posted this in my journal earlier today and thought I would share this with you all...

This is absolutely true.

I don't like poltergeists.

Well okay I like all spirits equally, except demonic ones and malevolent ones, they can go back to Hell but yeah, I still prefer to be left alone. But I've resigned myself to pretty much putting up with being 'contacted'. I'm not like my father for nothing...more psychically in tune. But when said poltergeist takes to STEALING things, it's absurd. Before Miriam and I moved back home, myu father had placed a pair of glasses on the bed, well they disappeared and he swore they fell behind, case and all. That was over a YEAR ago, they hadn't found glasses nor case, well until 2 months ago. I was helping do some arranging in their room and my dad was cleaning this cubbyhole behind the entertainment stand, it's only accessed through the back and the tv stand is huge, pushed against the wall. Well, he found those damned glasses THERE. Where no one, at least no human could just stash them. And the case is still missing, even though they were definately together.

Well last night, this, or perhaps a different spirit struck once more. This time the item stolen was none other than Meow. For those of you who don't know Meow, it is Miriam's FAVORITE stuffed cat. Courtney, my girlfriend, gave Miriam Meow when they came to visit like 2 months ago. Roger had won her that cat but she gave it to Miriam, being the selfless person she is. At first, Miriam wanted nothing to do with that cat, but then it went everywhere with her...even though at first she called it "doggy". She's since stopped calling it that and just calls it Meow. Well, my mom, took Meow last night because Miriam was being "mean" to him (which pissed me off cuz then for hours I had to hear her cry over Meow), and we went out to eat and Miriam didn't eat much, still pissed i assume. Well after our shower, I got Meow back for her and we had no sooner went to our room then my mom asked if I wanted something in the kitchen. Miriam still had Meow, and as Meow is not allowed in the kitchen, I placed him on the bed, grabbed our water cup , turned off the light and closed the door.

When we got back, Meow was gone.

Now I know most who read this will be "oh, your mom or dad took him back", um, no. My mom was in the kitchen the whole time and my dad was too preoccupied looking for something to bother with some toy of Miriam's. Miriam herself was with me the whole time, and she can't open the door. And no one else lives here, at least not in breathing form. My dad and I have sensed other spirits before so we know a few hang around. Like Radar and Gidget, our previous pets. So I was pissed, Miriam paced our room crying out "Meooow" in a pitiful voice and I was helpless...I searched everywhere for him to no avail. My dad and I took to trying to make contact with the spirit. he saw them at Taps (Ghost Hunters on Sci-Fi) use a K2 meter to make contact with a spirit of someone killed at Sharon Tate's house so he got his out but it didn't feellike making contact. So for 15 minutes I sat here in the dark and talked to it. Told it it made it's point and that we want Meow back. I barely can last 2-3 days without that cat because it breaks my heart to hear her cry over him. I don't think I could take a whole year of this. Course I know she'd forget about him eventually, but we don't want that.

But somehow I think the spirit did make contact, I'll have to wait until Dad gets up to find out for sure. I remember looking in his old work room for Meow and his computer wasn't on. Well, passing the room on my way to the bathroom, I noticed it is now. Sometimes my dad goes in there to verify shipping in emails but I don't recall him going in there. He was in there a few days ago but he always shuts his computer down because it draws too much load, which is why we both, being internet potatoes, use laptops. So I'm not going to think much about it until I know for sure if it's a sign.

Why can't I ever live in a semi-normal house without being overrun by mischeivious or downright malevolent spirits? Lord, I hate being such a magnet. Too bad I can't be a magnet for more pleasant things.....

Since I posted that though, we've found Meow. He was in my bedroom closet, behind a TV that is stuck in there, and no one could've possibly thrown him back there other than this entity because like I previously stated, no one went into my room and I myself, having been the last one to touch Meow, didn't throw him. The weirder part was, my dad definately did not leave his computer on. So we went in there and it had an error message saying that a program had stopped responding. Now any computer buffs know, the program that has stopped responding is usually mentioned in the bar at the top of this window, but there was no program name. So he hit 'end task' and his computer shut down. Now, a little history. My dad has a book about the astral planes and such that had gone missing, he wanted me to read it, and we couldn't ever find it. Well it was sitting there in plain view on a box next to my dad's computer, and my dad had searched that room plenty of times, in fact he had just been in there last night looking for something, and never found this book, until today. It's aptly titled "When you die, what's next?" So apparently this entity saw fit to turn on the computer to get us into the room, so we could see that book that it decided to return and have me read it.

Talk about getting a point across...

I need help with a haunting.

My house is not an old one. My grandmother and grandfather bought it in the late 1960's to accommodate their family, which including three children and one on the way. They were the first to live in it. For years it was a normal, peaceful home; but lately it's become something else, and I'm not quite sure how to deal with it.

After finishing kindergarten, my mom and her husband split up. As a result, her, my baby sister, and I came to live at my grandparents house, along with my uncle. When I was in second grade, my uncle died suddenly of an undiagnosed heart problem. He went peacefully in his sleep without displaying any symptoms.

Afterwards, odd things would happen from time to time. I vividly remember my lamp shaking violently one night and a jewelry box flying off my dress. By the time I was in fifth grade, I was given my first computer. Every night, at varying times, the computer would turn on by itself. I checked for alarm settings on it, and found they were no set. I even had two different techies look at it, but they couldn't find the cause.

Yet another incident occurred in the home's kitchen. My grandmother and grandfather were having a verbal spat. A plant there flew off the shelf and conked my grandfather in the head.

After that, there was rarely activity. Then, on June 6th of last year, my grandfather died after suffering from cancer for two years and heart failure. My grandfather and I were exceptionally close. I was his 'Princess' and he was my 'Prince'. We were so close that he'd even tell the other grandchildren that I was his favorite. He always watched out for me, and even to his dying day, I was his concern. He used to play little jokes on me by tapping on my wall or door as he walked past. On the day he died, I was distraught. That night I curled up in my bed sobbing. Then, I heard the tapping on my walls for the first time. The wall it came from is on the outside of the house, and seeing as how my room is on the second floor, it couldn't possibly be a person unless they had a ladder. I still heard it periodically.

Since he's died, we've also had issues with TVs in the house turning on and off by themselves. All four of us have heard disembodied voices coming from nowhere. I have a picture of my grandfather and I on the second shelf of my desk, and if I leave even for a minute, it will be turned completely around when I get back.

These little things have been nagging me. I'd told my best friend about them, but she didn't believe me until two days ago. She was sitting at the kitchen table having a conversation with my grandmother and I when she paused. She had seen a figure in white coming down the hallway and then disappearing.

The frequency of the events in my house has increased and I'm not sure what to do. I don't know if it's my grandfather still watching over me, my uncle, or something else.

Should I just leave it be? Is there something I should do or someone I should call? Are there any experiments anyone could recommend? Please, I need help.

In July, a co-worker's daughter (and friend of mine), a bunch of other people, and I are going to Waverly Hills Sanitorium in Kentucky. It's an abandoned hospital where people with TB were sent pretty much to die in the early 1900s. We may be able to upgrade to the guided tour/overnight stay (hopefully!). My friend, who is an avid ghost hunter, has all the really neat gear -- sensors and whatnot. I already have a good digital camera/camcorder and a few 1 GB cards.

So, is there anything else I should bring? I was thinking about looking into a really good voice recorder. I'm sure my friend has one, but I want my own.

Thanks,
~Kris

Here's a link:
http://www.waverlyhillstbsanatorium.com/

Well, these all occured awhile back but I am just posting now because I'm bored.

So, my friend Michelle and I were in the back bedroom that
a lot of spooky things have happened and we heard a bicycle horn being honked
right outside the door. weird.

And I think I might've posted this story before but whatever.
So, in that very same hallway a couple months before what happened above.
Me and 2 friends were the only ones awake in the house and just hanging out
and we all got up to go get popsicles and as I walked past a door that was open
in that hallway I thought I saw a white figure standing there and I just ignored it.
But on the way back all the hairs on my neck stood up and I started walking
really slow and my friend Michelle was right behind me and as I started walking
past the door I looked it in and Michelle shoved me into the room we were sleeping
in at that exact moment and as I looked into the room I heard what sounded like a chair
being moved across a wooden floor but that room has carpet, and michelle said the reason
she shoved me was because she saw this big white thing coming towards us really fast.

And another instance that happened in a different part of the house that was
more recent was about a month ago and I was just sitting alone in michelles
room on this computer and her door just swung open.

But that's all for now.
Peace.

I don't see a reason not to believe in them, i mean after all we all have souls don't we? an energy that keeps us going, and after we go the energy must continue. any way. I have many ghost encounter stories especially from when i was younger. I shall post those up later. until then i would suggest looking for a book called
"hell house and other true hauntings from around the world" by Alison Rattle and Allison Vale. This book is pretty awesome and it only cost me 10 Bucks at barnse and nobles.

Hey there!

I'm Caity, and I'm a new member to this community. I've been looking for a good supernatural based community for a while, for simple interest-sake, and to maybe get some suggestions on a problem my boyfriend's been happening (since a few other communities I've tried have turned up nothing). I'm 18 and from Canada, and have had an interest in the supernatural since I was about 7 or so. It both scares and intregues me.

Anyways, I guess I'll present my issue below, as snipped off another community I've posted to (to save having to type it all out again)...

My boyfriend lives in a small town just outside of the city I live in, in a house his father's owned for years (we're both in Canada, btw). He's been telling me stories recently about supernatural happenings in his old house out in the country. I'll re-tell the story here to the best of my memory.

He tells me that when he was little, when his parents were still together and his brother was naught just a baby, he'd spend time in the master bedroom (now the unfurnished guest room), and while he was in there, he'd see faces in the wall. He described them to me as being contorted in several expressions, some of fear, some of something else. He tells me he also saw this in the room that's now his father's office (and formerly his bedroom, I believe).

He's 18 now, and since the first sightings in his house, there's been a garage and brand new master bedroom added on. The rooms have been switched around, and he now resides in the basement in the room that used to be the office when he was younger. He tells me he sees the same faces in the upper corner of the room opposite the head of his bed.

I've tried to tune myself into the energies within his house, the most I've come up with being a white mist in the kitchen, near his father who was cooking dinner one night. I've also felt chills - sudden drops of temperature in the room near where I'm sitting, even if I'm on the couch in their basement rec room which has the wood stove going and heating the room to a very comfortable 25 degrees C (approx). I've also tried seeing if I could contact whatever may be residing in his house by placing myself into the former master bedroom. My attempt didn't work, and my boyfriend informed me he thinks whatever it is has moved from that spot.

The same day I tried this communication, my boyfriend informed me that while I was readying myself for bed and he was tending the fire in the next room, he saw a black figure - a shadow, perhaps, that appeared near the door to his room (which was closed for my own privacy), and quickly dissapeared, perhaps into the furnase/workroom or up the stairs. That occurance happened twice. I still haven't seen this figure, or even the faces in the corner of his room.

None of his other family members have experienced anything similar or have mentioned anything like this happening to them, so I wonder...

...Any suggestions, thoughs, ect, would be HIGHLY appreciated. Thanks very much!

I'm not sure if I dreamt this or if it was real:
Okay, well, I was sleeping over at my boyfriends last night and he starts his first day of working at 5am today, so he accidently woke me up at 4am, I spent almost an hour trying to get back to sleep. Well, I finally managed to and a few minutes later, I feel this immense pressure. It's sort of like when you start to feel your legs going to sleep from sitting on them too long (and you don't want to move them), but this was from my chest down to my knees and I couldn't move. Well, I start to nearly panic going "It's like that thing in my dad's room!" (incident below) and I start thinking I have to yell at this thing to get off. I can't do anything, so my breathing becomes rapid and I'm thinking "Please let tubby wake up now!" so that maybe if he sees me in distress, he'll get me to move. I figure I can't just lie there and do nothing, so I get myself to move my arms and I just jolt my entire body. I'm guessing it was like 5am or 5:30am by then, so I'm just lying there, terrified, since I can't tell if I dreamed it or if it actually happened. What freaked me out more is as soon as I calm myself down enough to try to go back to sleep, I hear this growling practically next to me. That jolts me awake for a few minutes. I try again and next I hear someone walking over chip bags (I left an empty one next to my bag). It didn't help that everytime I tried to go to sleep after that, I felt the same pressure either on my arms or my legs. I finally had to curl up into a tight ball before I could go to sleep.

Maybe I had a vivid dream and it affected me physically when I woke up, and then that triggered my imagination whenever I tried to go back to sleep. Or it was one of the spirits in the apartment (there are 2 shadows and another, who's a peeping tom). I'm not jumping to any conclusions as to what happened.

A few years ago, I was taking a nap in my dad's room. As habit, I had both doors shut. I heard my mom walk in a couple of times, to open the safe, but she closed the doors when she was done. A while later, I feel the end of the bed get pushed down. I thought it was my mom pushing herself up from the ground, so I dismiss it. But things start to get weird. I thought my cat was in the room, and walking on the side of the bed. I figure I might as well get up and get her out of the room before my mom sees, but I can't get up. I wanted to, but I couldn't. It was like someone was lying on top of me. I would have thought it was myself (Sometimes we don't want to get up, even when we have to), if not for the fact that it felt like someone was lying on me. I'm not sure how long I lied there, but I didn't start to panic until I found I couldn't move any part of my body. When I felt a hand grab my knee and it's grip tightened, I made my resolve to call for help. The only thing that came out was a whisper. I talked myself out of panic by focusing on my breathing and then just yelling at myself to move and get out of there. I managed to get up and I couldn't help running from the room. I told my sister first, and she just looked at me and said "You shouldn't have run", before telling my mom and tried to convince her to get the house baptized. She didn't.

I guess that incident didn't register in my memory well, since I wasn't scared afterwards, but I think twice before taking a nap in my dad's room. In fact, I still can't take a nap or study in his room. I'm not sure why it happened or what exactly was going on, besides something trying to pin me down.

We didn't dismiss this, though. It just added to the stories in my house. We do have a little girl in a white dress that likes to be in my dad's room and an older woman there.

This one left an impression on me, although it terrified me at the same time. About a year and a half ago, maybe a little more, I was alone in my house, using our PC. Out of nowhere I hear static. I turn around to check the TV, but it's off and so is the DVD player. I turn back to the computer, shrugging it off, but as soon as I do so, I start to hear crying. At first it's low and I think it's coming from outside (I tend to shut the windows when I'm home alone, except in the summer), but it starts to get louder. It sounds like it's coming from all round me, through the speakers of our DVD player ("surround sound"). And then it's right behind me. That's when I cave and run out the door. When I got the courage (and my dog) to walk back inside my house, the crying stopped. I then decided to turn on a radio for noise.

But it left a strong impression on me since, not only could I tell it was a man, but it sounded so much more sad than anything I had ever heard. And now I'm just curious as to who he was and why he was so sad. I sort of wish I had stayed and talked to it, especially since that was the first and last time I had ever heard him.

Any thoughts?

This'll probably sound real stupid and made up... I was standing at the end of my hallway contemplating getting a drink from the kitchen. I looked down the hall and saw it. Dark, standing no higher then 4 feet. Just standing. I couldn't make out a face. It was very dark. A little light shown in from the window behind it and it blocked nearly 90% of it. That's the only reason why I knew it was there. I couldnt move. I hate that. I hate that so much. What if it came forward? What if it moved? I don't know what I'd do then. I guess I could run into the bathroom. But then what? stay in there till Mike (my boyfriend) woke up? yeah right... How stupid I would feel... I couldnt blink. I kept thinking of this little movie I saw on the computer once of a face that kept getting closer and closer. It was creepy. But I thought that if I blinked it would get closer and I wouldnt even notice it until it was to close for me to run. But then there was the light. The light from the window was there again. It was gone, and I actually watched it disappear. Even tho I could see the light again and I knew it was gone I could still feel it for some reason. Usually that feeling, the feeling of a presence the feeling of eyes watching, goes away but this time it didn't. I didn't want to see it again so I ran. Not backwards but forward into my room (a few feet away). I don't know why I feel safe in my room. It's just as dark. But unlike every other room in that house I never once got those feelings. Never. Well when the sun comes up everything will be back to normal and I won't even be sure it really happened. I'll tell Mike and it'll sound really stupid and made up even to me. Not that it doesn't already. Oh well...... I wrote this a few days ago and thought i might share since i havnt posted anything before. The weird thing is that I have seen other things before in this house (mikes house) but the feeling always goes away almost immediatly after whatever happens is over or gone i should say. But for the past few days I've been ok in my house but when I get in my car those feeling start again. The scared feeling... the feeling of not being alone, even while I'm driving! who the hell gets scared in a car...lol... I have seen alot of things in my days growing up but this is the first time I've ever felt that way outside... I wonder why? ... feel free to comment if you have any insight...

Do you think it's possible for a ghost to attache itself to you and follow you?

The reason I'm asking, is because this morning while I was upstairs, I heard definite footsteps coming from downstairs. Usually it wouldn't surprise me because for some reason when you walk through the kitchen it's very loud, except I was alone in the house. It lasted several minutes and then stopped as suddenly as it started.

My husband confirmed that he was indeed at work at that time and now I'm just wondering what other explanations there could be...I've had my share of paranormal encounters but nothing like that has ever happened in this house. Now, I did go babysit for some guests at the hotel I work at last night, and it is haunted. Could it be that one of those ghosts followed me? Why now? I've worked there for 2 years...

This brought back memories from when I was a kid, so I thought I'd share

I was at my boyfriend's apartment a few weeks ago: I was talking with his neighbor about culinary things and out of nowhere we start hearing the dishes in the kitchen move around (like someone was putting the dishes away or moving them around), but no one was in the kitchen. He gets scared and asks if I heard it and I say "Yeah. There are ghosts in here." He's just a bit freaked out because he's never seen or felt a ghost before. I've practically lived around spirits since I was a kid, so it didn't bother me as much.

So I told him this:
When I was a kid (and this happened every time) we heard the dishes in the kitchen sink being moved around...even when there weren't any dishes in the kitchen sink. At first we assumed it was my dad, since he always played pranks on us, but this happened even when he wasn't home...and mainly at night when few of us were up or alone at home during the day. We assumed it was our neighbor next, but we quickly changed our minds. Whenever one of us would look at the kitchen, the noise would stop, but as soon as we turned our heads, they would start again. Sometimes we heard a light laugh come out when we turned our heads away. The funny thing is, it didn't feel threatening at all, but it was still enough to get us to shut off all the lights in the kitchen from the farthest light to the nearest...and still run out of there to this day.

(cross-posted, possibly.)

I was in my office listening to the radio, and my girlfriend was in the bathroom getting ready to take a shower, listening to the same radio station. Suddenly, I heard an unnatural scream from my living room. At first, I believed it sounded like a small child, around 1-3 years old. But, I quickly realized that the sound had come from my living room, and that was completely impossible. The two cats and dogs were both walking around the living room looking confused and concerned. Even in my position close to the living room, I could not be sure where the noise came from. It seemed to have come from the whole room.

(As I am naturally a pussy) I burst in the bathroom and told my girlfriend what happened. She mentioned that often serial robbers or killers make noises like young children to draw people out of the house. So, I was double scared, and grabbed a knife.

However, I am quite sure that the noise came from my living room. It did not sound completely human. If anyone has heard an alien die in the "Alien" movies, that is sort of what it sounds like, with a young human child twist. I know it's hard to comprehend. It was definitely not human, yet in some aspects the cry mimicked a human baby, with a slight electronic tone. Since me and Amy were both listening to the radio in different rooms, I know it couldn't have been the radio, because she never heard it.

We didn't hear anything for the rest of the night, besides a low buzzing noise resembling the noise of a personal plane, for about two hours. I don't believe this was related.

Any related experiences?

I haven't experienced any ghost hauntings in quite a while, but I would like to share one of the many experiences I've had with the paranormal. I am seeking advice and opinions.
Years ago, I was sitting on my bed writing in a journal, when I suddenly felt like I was being watched. I looked up from my notebook and saw a greyish mist directly in front of me. I felt threatened by this apparition. It suddenly rushed at me and I felt pressure of a hand over my face and it slammed my head repeatedly into my bed's headboard until I blacked out. When I came to the apparition had vanished. I don't know where it came from. I had never seen it before or since this happening luckily. It is an experience I will never forget. It was just very scary and confusing.
What I'm seeking advice about is, has anyone else had an an encounter with a violent spirit? How did you cope with it? And is it common, or a work of the Devil? I'm sorry if these are silly questions, but it's been something I have been wondering for years. I just want to understand my experience better. Thanks.
