My friend and I use her voice recorder to record EVP, when we ghost hunt.
Together we think we may have caught some voices one time. But I think she has had more success when she has used it herself.

Honestly, I'm pretty sure you could go to any Futureshop and take a look at some voice recorders or sound recorders or something along that line.

you will need a recorder(preferably the ones with the little tapes, not digital) and external microphone. the external microphone helps cut back the sound of the recorders motor, which in turn will make your evp clearer if you get one. i've had the most sucess by first introducing myself outloud, and exlain what you are doing. then ask for a name, a date, whatever you want to ask. you usually will get a name if you ask. dont expect to get a full sentance. the best places to go are places that someone would be drawn to after death, like an old church they went to, a home, sometimes you can get them at cemetaries. just experiment and have fun. OH! its also recommended that you get a computer software that will allow you to filter the recording so you can hear them better, alot of times they are faint, or hard to decifer. good luck.

Well, I've never had any luck because I have a crap recorder and I'm too lazy to go out and get a better one... That's pretty much all you'll need - a good recorder, one with clear playback and all. I think you can get good ones at places like RadioShack or Best Buy for under $30. And then like the people above me were saying, say who you are and why you're there, ask if you can help, ask who's there and why. Also, make sure there's nobody else around and you're not just picking up an argument from next door. Good luck!

PS - on a side note, Ensiferum is an awesome band :)
