Introducing: MoodRing for LJ
Huzzah!!! My moodtheme display generator is now complete! *skips around room like a 4-year-old*

MoodRing for LJ

So this is actually something that's been in the making for about a year now. Last spring I started fiddling around with the idea and the code, life happened and I subsequently abandoned it, and then after the end-of-year holiday madness subsided, I decided I was going to plod through as much of my many unfinished projects as I could, starting with this one.

Simply put, it's a form you can fill out that when submitted will create a lovely full preview of your moodtheme, complete with a title and credit line and customizable settings.

MORE @ [info]agentbristowart

Deepest thanks to [info]euterpeslullaby who graciously allowed me to use her moodtheme as an example!
If you like this moodtheme, you can find it here @ [info]crackified.

I'm relatively new to *real* PHP coding, and this is my very first "script" of sorts, but I'm hoping to add more customization features to this in the future if people want them. I would really love any feedback on this that people have-- good, bad, whatever-- just be kind, please! :)

So here's the script (again)-- complete with full instructions. :D

MoodRing for LJ

Please leave ALL feedback on THIS post.

Thank you for posting this! This seems like it will be an absolutely lovely tool and I definitely will use it in the future, if I ever finish that moodtheme I've been working on for months. :)

You're very welcome. :D Thanks for your kind words!

I know what you mean. I currently have THREE unfinished moodthemes-- I keep getting worn out with it and have to walk away for a while. Plus I've got a short attention span when it comes to projects, so... :D It's actually rather amazing that I was able to get myself to finish MoodRing, haha!

Thank you! :D

I know it seems lame but when you've worked so hard on something, any word of approval is SO nice to hear. Thanks for taking the time to comment! :D

This is cool! You should know, though, that the 2 previews you posted to [info]_fandom_icons_ now have white boxes that read "HI! I'M STEALING BANDWIDTH FROM RED-UMBRELLA.ORG! PLEASE FEEL FREE TO HARASS ME!" where the previews should be. You might want to switch the code around before the mods of the community delete your post.

Not trying to harass as the boxes suggest; just trying to help. *hugs*

I don't actually remember posting to [info]_fandom_icons_. Could you link the post?

This is interesting. The pix are showing up in the post in the actual community but not on my flist. Let me reload my flist page....

Well, it's showing up, now. Go figure. Sorry to bother you! *conks forehead*

Oh. Duh. I just saw the community name in the link I gave you. Sorry about that! I am going through things to relax in bed before going to sleep. Maybe I should just read fic, huh? *conks forehead again*

Really, really sorry!

Fic is *always* a good idea! :D

Don't feel bad. I figured out what happened. The images are hosted on my server, but a little ways back I decided to prevent hotlinking via .htaccess. Thing is, I have to go in and list every single site I want to allow hotlinking to, which of course included my personal journals and the comms I'd posted to, but not anyplace else. So when you tried to view my images from your f-list (which is located at YOUR journal)... it wouldn't allow it. When you viewed them at the comm, though, they were allowed. Then the images were cached either on the site or in your browser which made them appear on your f-list. I think, though, if you tried to reload your f-list it would go back to the hotlinking message.

Basically, this is kinda the final straw with the .htaccess blocking for me. I think I'm just going to take off all the restrictions, monitor my bandwidth and traffic, and only ADD offending sites to a BLOCK list.

Sorry if this isn't coherent. My brain is mush and this whole thing is giving me a headache, haha.

But THANKS for letting me know about the problem! I hadn't thought about the f-list issue until now (mostly cuz I just like to visit the journals themselves and don't really use the f-list feature myself). I'm gonna take off all the restrictions now. :D

I never really used the flist thing--just the notification e-mails thing--either. I was just doing so last night because I was on my laptop and didn't want to have more than one window open at once because the laptop has lower memory capacity.

Glad I helped you discover a problem. Usually I cause problems because I get confused easily. It's nice to be on the other side of the coin for once!

I gotta say, I'm really glad you were kind enough to drop a message before reporting me, since it would've thoroughly sucked to get kicked out for hotlinking to my own server! ;D

No, I said I wouldn't have reported you because that's not the kind of thing I take the time to tattle about. Sorry if I didn't make that clear enough. I deleted the comment, though, because it revealed something that I didn't want revealed about my identity. I just hope I did so in time.

All I meant was, I'm really glad you're obviously NOT the kind of person who shoots first and asks questions later. Someone else might have just pulled the trigger, which WOULD have sucked.

But seriously, don't worry about any of this. You helped me uncover a problem, and for that I am very thankful! :D

I've been wondering how people make the lovely previews for their moodthemes! Wow, this is an excellent tool! Thanks!

Yeah to my knowledge there aren't any other scripts out there yet for this, so I think a lot of the people who've done displays have had to just do it all by hand. (As if doing the whole moodtheme itself wasn't time-consuming. So much work! And all for us, the greedy-- but grateful!-- downloaders.) So hopefully this will take a small part of the work out of it.

BTW, love your icon. Very cute. :D

Damn, all the praise for my CB icon really makes me wish I'd made it!

I've only made one moodtheme so far (and not a very good one at that). I think I'll try reposting it in my journal using your preview sometime and see how it looks! Thanks again for the handy code!
