Weet enigiemand van ’n goede Engels-Afrikaanse Woordeboek? Ek het aan Amazon deurgesoek maar ek het nie >impressed< waarmee hulle het gehad nie.

Interesting... After seeing this, I suppose met wat does not combine into waarmee because wat is being used here as a relative pronoun and not interogative pronoun, no?

Actually, it might be easier if you looked at the sentence like this: "...ek was nie beïndruk deur wat hulle gehad het nie."
Literally, "I wasn't impressed with what they had</i>."

Using "met" in that context, it takes on the same connotation as "deur". Does that make sense at all?

I'm sorry, I'm not very good at this. =P I'm not a teacher or anything, I just know from being a first-language speaker... so I'll try to help out as far as i can, but I can't always explain why certain things are they way they are. Sorry...

Thanks! I had seen that book and wondered about if it were any good or not. The only dictionary they had with reader reviews got slagged.

Oh, no worries! We had to use that dictionary all through school, and I still use it even now! It's really helpful.

Persoonlik is ek nie beïndruk met die Tweetalige Sak-woordboek nie. Ek besit dit en dit gee net die direkte vertaling maar dit verduidelik nie die konteks om waarin die woorde te gebruik nie of enige verklaring nie.

Probeer die Afrikaans-English/English-Afrikaans (Hippocrene Practical Dictionary) wat baie goed en goedkoop is. As jy ryk voel, kry die Pharos Afrikaans-Engels/Engels-Afrikaans Woordeboek - ja dis duurder, maar dit bevat meer as 100,000 woorde in elke taal!
