Current music:AFI - Six to Eight

Note to posters and mods:
I need to send you guys stuff about what I think you should post (I was thinking of something like a system so that each poster need only worry about posting one thing, like discussion or news, for example). As for now, though, just post what ever you like.

News
Not too big of a deal, but it has come to my knowledge that Davey and Adam were at the Emmy's! How about that! Here's a picture of them, along with who I wanna say is Davey's brother for the last name, even though I wasn't aware he also took the last name Havok when Davey did :S

Discussion
Davey often says that his songs are not written to have one solid meaning so that his fans could interpret it as they pleased because he knew from experience the disappointment of being wrong when it comes to the understanding of lyrics. For discussion, post what you think "The Great Disappointment" and/or "Six to Eight" means, or rather what you get from it. (the reason I set these songs was so that we could see how our opinions differ on the same topic). Have fun!

I doubt Michael took "Havok" as his last name. I'm sure they probably put that because they either think his last name really IS Havok, or it's so they don't give out "Marchand".

Someone once told me that they thought The Great Disappointment was about marriage; I think it's about suicide over a betrayal. Like .. he's waiting to die and the "soft creatures draped in white" and the "cherished ones" are angels; wasting away as in his time on earth fading, and the great disappointment being when he actually doesn't die.

Yeah, the Michael "Havok" thing is sorta weird. Maybe the photographer was gullible and thought that was Davey's real last name? Hah.

Sorry for the lack of originality, but I think "6 to 8" is definitely about touring and the fans.

Thanks for these lovely, organized updates.

I love that picture.

I think the Great Disappointment is maybe about getting older and realizing that the world sucks. I always picture a little kid finding out that Santa or the Tooth Fairy isnt real. :(

As for 6 to 8, I also think its about that fans and touring. I think that would be an awesome song to see them do live.

Yeah, I was kinda wondering when you wanted me to make a post.

I don't know about the songs. I try not to read into them too much. I just take what I can from them.

My theory is more than likely wrong, but oh well. Here it is.

I think "The Great Disappointment" may be about a point in Davey's life that made him lose his sights on what's going on around him, and retreat into himself. He was in love, or so he thought, and that person left him for naught. He tried to escape this world of betrayal, to get away from the pain he felt, and then suddenly everything altered. He's lost in his own reality, and hope no longer exists. This person promised him the world, and they just as easily took it away. He doesn't want to be there anymore, and he never meant to disappear in such a fashion, but there's no escape. He's made himself a ghost.

I think "The Great Disappointment" is about religion. There actually WAS an event that took place that is known as the Great Disappointment - members of a cult were certain that Jesus would return on a certain day, and they were prepared, and he never came. This hit me right between the eyes last week: chysanthemums represent nobility (the trait, not the people), and the color white represents truth. Noble truths. What about the four Noble Truths of Buddhism?

"6 to 8" is a song that I really hope reflects their views on fans and touring. :)
