Challenge 17 entry
Title: Exaltation
Prompt: #17 - Upward
Rating: G
Characters: Holly
Points to: The Unofficial Jade Princess Fan Club
Words: 100

-----

All around her, Holly could hear shouts of joy from the other fairies. They were gamboling, skipping, rushing to the surface. The war was over.

Once, Holly had dreamed of a day when the humans and fairies would live together, up above. There had once been someone waiting for her. But war had come, with all its hardships and intense situations, and all those did to humans. Something had happened. He wasn't waiting any more.

As a tide of other people's happiness swept Holly towards the surface at last, she thought bitterly about the irony. He had already gone upward.

-----

I actually wrote this about two weeks ago, but didn't post it until now because I wasn't feeling so well. I was going to write another one for this theme only now I can't be bothered.

And so I shall be off to close the challenge.

Nice! Clear, yet says so much. I particularly like the doubled upward!ness. :D

Actually, I was surprised at the line "He wasn't waiting anymore." I was expecting Jolliet...

Thanks. :D I normally do try and get a themex2 into my drabbles, or at least let the title have two applicable meanings. (As it does here.) Somehow I feel it lends something extra to something so short.

Heh! Well, don't forget, I am also an H/A, A/J, H/R and H/F shipper. XD; Besides, how could I have notworkingout!Jolliet?

Oh, I liked that. At first I was thinking that the Ineviable War had gone on long enough that the crew up Above had died of old age by the time it finished. I like the 'tide of other people's happiness', especially.
