Je suis perdu [Apr. 21st, 2007|07:27 pm]

[Current Mood | lonely]

Really, I haven't found an RP home since Aether.  How sad is that?

:(

Where are you folks at now?  I'm desperate for almost anything to waste a few creative hours each week.

Dusting off the bunnies? [Oct. 18th, 2006|02:09 pm]

lilwolfe
Long story short.  I had a brain worm today.   I was trying to remember the terms used to address the Empyrean uppity ups.   So I started looking on the internet and find the Aether main site still up with all sorts of great links.

It's odd how even in a world so big that you can talk to Taiwan and chit chat with Cairo, that you run into people through people you know from this once place you've been on the web.

Just today, I read a friends page on here, to find one of her friends was astra.   And of course, there is the other friend that I've run across on lj too that ended up being rl friends with a person from the place I play on now, but they played on aether.  Whew.

So much for short story.   Reading the page got me really nostalgic and brought back SO many fond memories.  I wanted to hop on here and say hey there, and find out if people are still playing anywhere.  In the least, it gives me a chance to thank everyone again for getting me into writing and roleplaying and being a part of my life that really warms my memories.

Tumbleweed on the prairie... [Mar. 18th, 2006|04:16 pm]

aether_dar
I live in the U.S. southwest, so I have actually seen tumbleweed cross the dusty paths before.

Sometimes they get really big and in strong winds come careening towards you on the highway.

Anyway, this place has been rather quiet for almost a year now.

To break the silence, I present various OOC quotes I picked up over the... months.

Hope no one objects.

Dar arrives in a swirl of aether from IC.
Dar waves
Niviah pokes
Dar pokes back
Niviah pokes back harder
Dar cries
Niviah cackles!

[Atlantean] Dar is almost done with his thesis, by the way.
[Atlantean] Dar says, "relatively"
[Atlantean] Achelises Kekipi says, "Nifty :)"
[Atlantean] Charon says, "Thesis? as in... graduate school thesis? Doctoral thesis? (;"
[Atlantean] Dar says, "Thesis on how Aether would be different if the sun rose in east and how
it would be different if it rose in the west."
[Atlantean] Charon says, "For what reason? (;"
[Atlantean] Dar says, "Insomnia gives one a lot of time to organize one's thoughts"

[Atlantean] BlueerGirl Nymosyne looks at the +census and sniffs, "Those nasty Sylvans have no reason to outrank us! That's mean!"

Kedar nods, "It is the best place to be weird, after all."

You say "You might as well work your "disappearance" into a scene"
You say "Something /dramatic/.... fighting a family war and losing a lover, or something"
Dar blehs
LightHope nods. "Someplace, perhaps on the edge of town?"
Elanus says "France."
Dar whaps Elanus with a dirty noun.
Elanus cries.
LightHope says "Dirty Noun?"
LightHope says "is that like the girl dog word?"
You say "Well, you can't hit someone with an adjective."

Circling Wind says "See. Riverdance would be a lovely Sylvan name, save for the association with clogging and riverdancing and half-clad irish men stomping the stage."

Aether Site [Jul. 21st, 2005|12:55 am]

astraether
I updated the intro page for the Aether site, since it'd gone kerplooie after mux.net got hacked. Just figured I'd do something nice and simple, ala [info]silverselene's previous splash page. If anyone's got any links to add at the bottom, let me know.

And yeah, there may be more stuff up there soon (well, "soon" being rather relative). I've had projects on the backburner for a while now, and it'd be a shame to let 'em just sit on my hard drive gathering the proverbial dust. No new games, but hopefully some fodder for the imagination. Though lord knows, Dar doesn't need any. ;) (nice pics on [info]aetherian_rp, Dar!)

You know you're bored when you spend the last hour or so at work trying to remember the names of all the Decemvirates. I got nine, but the tenth eluded me.

Which was the tenth? Organil. Did we ever even use that one? Sheesh. :P

Including [info]aetherian_rp.

I don't expect this to be a high-traffic community, but I'd like to invite anyone who wants to post short stories or the like about their Aetherian characters. Mostly, I just like the idea of Aether's stories continuing in some form or another.

The end? [Jul. 3rd, 2005|10:30 pm]

Well, considering the status of Aether is in limbo (not that good kind of limbo, either), and it seemed if not sudden then at least unfortunate, it's time for some closure... for me.

Major Game Announcement [Jun. 20th, 2005|05:27 pm]

silverselene
This announcement has been a long time coming. I’ve tried to put it off, thinking things might improve, but I’ve reached a point where I cannot do this anymore. I am sorry to say that as of July 1st I will be retiring as Goddess and will be closing Aether. There is no one single reason for this, but rather a few that have led me to this decision, and it was not one I’ve made lightly. I simply do not have the amount of time or energy to devote what is needed by a goddess to keep it running.

At this time there is no intended plan of handing the game and theme over to someone else, for that is not my decision to make. The theme belongs to Astraea and if she is willing to allow someone else to take a stab at the Aether theme, that would be her decision to make. I have emailed her about the closing and if she is open to someone taking over, I will let you know that, if anyone has an interest in doing so.

I believe that Aether Odyessey was a new game format with a great deal of potential and I am sorry to see it go. I have had a lot of wonderful RP with a group of very talented players and I thank each of you for your contribution to the game, both in Parnassus and out on the Odyssey. If you have something that you’d really like to RP before we close, please let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Feel free to @decompile anything of yours that you would like to keep for after July 1st I can’t promise you’ll sill be able to access it.

As always, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to @mail or page me, I’ll be glad to answer your questions. Once again, thank you all for your participation, it truly has been fun to RP with you all.

Looking for someone ... [Jun. 20th, 2005|02:12 pm]

[Current Mood | hopeful]

I'm trying to find the player for Wanderer/Apollonius from Aether I. If anyone knows how I might get in touch with him/her I would greatly appreciate it. I used to have an email address, but it doesn't seem to work any more. I know that Wanderer is a very private person in RL, so alternatively if someone can just pass on the information that Ranjeet/Demetrius is looking for Wanderer, then she can get back to me if she wants to.

Many thanks!

Game changes [Jan. 20th, 2005|02:40 pm]

silverselene
This is a copy of the post made on the game and the game's website:

The Staff at Aether have given a great deal of time in order to combat the malaise that seems to have infected Aether of late, and while we do appreciate those who have stuck with the game and maintained their activity, we have reached the conclusion that it is time for the game to switch gears.

The playerbase is no longer capable of supporting a grid the size of these two cities and surrounding forest based on the fact that we often have less than ten characters logged on a night. So, we are going to take Aether into a new direction; a direction that was hinted at way back in Aether I. In the first game, we were introduced to new cultures, including the Aesir and the Najada, among others. We have chosen to expand a bit on the Discovery aspect of the game. Because of the small playerbase, we will be narrowing the game down to two exploratory ships which will sail the seas of the world and learn about new peoples and revisit some familiar ones.

Some of you are probably asking, 'How does my character fit into this?' Well, that is the question we, as the Staff are going to present right back to you. We are inviting all players who would like to help in this endeavor and keep the world of Aether alive to create or bring along their characters for this venture.

There are, however, some rules that we are going to have to enforce:

- All characters must remain in Theme. That one, I think is a given

- All characters must have a reason to be on the ships. There are no passengers. Everyone must have a necessary duty.

- All characters are going to be required to maintain at least 2 hours of PUBLIC RP a week. This can be within a plot, this can be spread across three days, this can be RPing social events.

- All players will be expected to contribute TP/event ideas and see them run. One person will not be responsible for running all events.

The character process is going to work a couple of ways: If you would like your current character to be on the ship, we will need a blurb as to why they leave the cities and what job they see themselves doing on the voyage. Remember, everyone must have one, even if they're Sailor #5. If you would like to create a new character for this, then you will need to send us a little, mini-app which would detail a bit about the character you want, his/her background, and...of course, what he/she does on the ship and how they joined up. The points from Chargen will remain and if you want more, or if you want a Special character (Halfbreed, Two magics, Empyrean with magic, Darkling) you will need to send us a full application. There will be a limited amount of slots for these characters still.

There will be another option for characters as well. We will have a small pool of Pre-Gen characters which are mostly meant for those who cannot commit to the 2 hours a week RP requirement or those who just want to try this new setting, or even those who may want to try out the game for the first time. These Pre-Gens will be passworded and the password will be given to those who have sent us mail requesting said Pre-Gen. There will be more detail on these NPCs as we re-build.

Chargen will be closed immediately, no new alts will be allowed to be created. Players that want to continue RPing through the next month will be allowed to do so, but staff will not be running any plots.

We will be taking a month to transition to the new setting, and after that month will will be rearranging the Grid and resetting locks for IC entrances. Those characters who have not transferred to the ships will be set in the OOC room as the current Grid will no longer exist for IC Roleplay. We hope to see everyone as crew on one of the ships but if not, we would like to thank you all for helping to bring this game back to life. We are hoping that this paring down of setting will help the game to grow once more.

Discussion about the new direction and updates about the game's progress will all be done on a temporary EZBoard rather than here on the game. This will also include further information on character creation, character types needed and any other policies that are brought up. Feel free to visit and ask questions, offer suggestions or just keep yourself updated as to what is going on.

Staff will be around throughout the next month as we work on building and re-structuring if you have any questions of us. If you have a question that we think is useful for everyone to hear the answer to, we will post the question and response on the EZBoard where it can be added to the discussion.

The board can be found here: http://p066.ezboard.com/baethersodyssey

New ad for Aether II [Dec. 3rd, 2004|01:12 pm]

silverselene
As promised, here is the new ad for Aether II. Feel free to post this on other games you play on, if they allow other games to advertise, of course.

Aether II is an original-themed fantasy MUSH set is a world not unlike our own. With races and cultures that echo our vast mythology, the basis for this game is a world separate from ours, yet inexplicably entwined; where those who once might have been mistaken as "gods" and "goddesses" still walk; where "angels" and "demons" wage a battle between light and darkness; and where magic, in all its varying forms, still exists.

Aether II is set in the two cities of Parnassus and Irha-Esh, twin cities grown from a single one that was divided after the treaty that established it was determined to be an impossible dream. The longtime enemies – Empyreans and Varati – are separated by an estuary in which the peace-loving Atlanteans dwell. But they are joined by a wide bridge which serves as the center of commerce in the region. To the west in the great forest dwells a Sylvan tribe, their knowledge of earth magic and healing have been of great value to both Varati and Empyreans. They have all learned to adapt and live in a new kind of peace.

But things are changing. The Varati God-King, Khalid Atar, is now absent from his people, leaving the kingdom in the hands of his Pashas and Warlords. Can this war-like nation keep the peace in Khalid’s absence and what will become of Irha-Esh, the Varati city in Empyrean territory? In the Empyrean’s Republic there are whispers of an impending civil war between those who wish to keep a Republic government and those who wish to see a wind-mage once more placed on the throne of the Emperor. How will Parnassus – a city that itself might be torn apart from within as the Aegians and Praetorians vie for control – be affected by a conflict that will not set nation against nation, but House against House? The Atlanteans have always been seen as passive and peace-loving, but are they truly as passive as is believed? The Sylvans, always thought to be uncultured and uncivilized, seem to be living a carefree existence on the edge of the two cities, but there is something to come that could change all of that and make them question who they truly are.

Aether is currently in a period of ‘soft’ RP as the holiday season gets underway so this is the perfect time for new players to come and join the game before large-scale TPs get underway just after the New Year begins. Create a character now and have time to get comfortable with the setting and your character’s place in it. We are looking for chargen-level characters as well as a variety of features, providing potential players with a wealth of opportunities to get involved with this new direction and make decisions that could affect the future. Staff members are available to answer any questions you might have, so feel free to stop by for a visit.

It's been a long time since I've logged to Aether, but once I found this LJ community, I figure I would drop in and say hi.

So, uh, hi. ;)

I used to play Zephyr and Tenmou on Aether, as my two primary characters, in the Empyrean and Atlantean spheres. :) For those who want to get back in touch, I am over at Firan right now as Zaridos. :)

Hi there - don't know if anybody is checking or reading this at all, but if you are could you post to the OOC Bulletin board that Sebastian has lost net access and likely will not be able to log in for a week at least? Our system got hacked by a root kit and we are way fucked.

Very very not happy now. :(
