I just got this from the CMU alumni office:Recently, you should have received a letter outlining many of the exciting accomplishments achieved this spring by the Greek community at Carnegie Mellon. This letter also notified you that your annual contribution to Carnegie Mellon may now be designated to any fraternity or sorority in good standing.
A contribution made through the university is tax-deductible, will directly benefit the designated organization, and will help boost the university's alumni participation rate which, as you probably know, impacts rankings and the value of the Carnegie Mellon degree.
To make your contribution now, go to http://www.cmu.edu/giving/give.shtml?AID=0000138278&PCH=637, and from the pull-down "Designation" menu select "Other" and then type Alpha Epsilon Pi in the "Comments" box.
Financial support of Alpha Epsilon Pi through Carnegie Mellon's Annual Fund not only enables current student members to continue initiatives that make them leaders in the campus community, but will also carry on the traditions you knew as a member of the Greek community at Carnegie Mellon. Contributions from you and your fellow members will reside in a special fund created especially for Alpha Epsilon Pi, separate from operating funds, which will be used to pay for scholarships, facility enhancements, leadership initiatives and general member development opportunities.
Thank you for your consideration of this request and best wishes for a relaxing summer! Does anyone fully understand this? What exactly is this special fund? If i give this way is it really the same as giving directly to the chapter?

We still have the house on the corner, SAE still has the lions, and people still sit on that wall. I half-expected to see Dan Goldstein sitting there, since it seemed like he was always out there. Some of my fondest memories are sitting on that wall, talking to Dan and Handy, or just watching everyone.

| Carnival 2007: 2nd place Booth, Chairman's Choice Buggy! |
[23 Apr 2007|09:37am] |
Rather than just posting this in my personal blog, I figured I'd update here.
This past weekend was Carnival. AEPi had a great Carnival, taking 2nd place in booth with Pinball. Most of us were just hoping we'd get 3rd, as we felt we were neck and neck with KDR's human body booth. Taking 2nd place (over Phi Kap's Cuckoo Clock) was definitely a pleasant surprise. SigEp took first with an awesome old school Nintendo booth. Our booth had a lot of games on the inside (Plinko, a Labyrinth maze game, and a non-working Lights Out game) and the exterior was a gigantic pinball machine with the CMU campus as the playing field, including the UC, Purnell, Wean, CFA, Hamerschlag, and even incorporating the fence, the "walking to the sky" sculpture (if you haven't been back recently, you don't know what that is, sorry), the library, the clock near the fence, and even Pitt's Cathedral of Learning. The game was REALLY fun to play as well, and even mostly worked! It was definitely an AEPi kind of booth, the kind that people really enjoyed and kids came back to repeatedly. Even President Cohen loved it, spending 10 minutes playing the game! Kudos to the brothers who built the booth and the alumni who came back to help, including (at least) Sparky and Yeckel.
In Buggy, the guys rolled our new buggy, Zepherus, for the first time. We were technically DQ'd (no hand on buggy when it crossed the finish line), but our time was 2:31, way better than the times from previous years. For our large improvement in time, we were given the Chairman's Choice award. We also rolled Barak/Red Lightning/Camo with a B-team, finishing in about 2:50. The next day, we rolled Camo again during the Alumni Exhibition races and finished in about 2:47, barely edging the Fringe team. 8 different people pushed the buggy, as 6 alumni split the back 3 hills. The AEPi-AK wikipedia has lots of details on buggy already.
Saturday night we had our 20th Anniversary Banquet at the Pittsburgh Athletic Association (right near the bowling alley, site of our past intramural glory), which was a real blast and thoroughly enjoyed by everyone in attendance. We had 5 or 6 old-chapter alumni in attendance who shared some amazing memories of the earliest days of the chapter. Lots of stories were told about our chapter throughout the years including some hilarious stories from old chapter's Mark Hollander and of course Mike Gutenplan, as well as more touching memories from Evan Indianer, Jason Herman, and yours truly. It was clear that the old chapter and older alumni were very proud to see something they started so many years ago thriving so well today.
