Favorite Character Taint/Power

Been getting back into it.

What has been your favorite taint manifestation, either in your character, the characters of others in your group, or of NPCs?

Taint example: I had a music-based free-agent one-man-band DJ with extra limbs. His taints manifested in that he was Faceless, Spoke Using Audio Clips, and Perceived All Sensory Stimulus As Sound (as a low-level mental quirk).

Power Example: Extra-Dimensional Stomach ~ similar to Matter Eater, but can swallow and hold huge amounts of things in an pocket universe stomach

Getting some discussion started...

Has anyone seen the show "Metalocalypse" on Adult Swim?

In a nutshell, it's about a metal band called 'Dethklok' that gets into adventures while pursuing their music.

The reason why I bring it up is because this is a band that in their universe is so influential that the suicide rate rises when their new album is late, important government (public and secret governments) figures meeting secretly in worry over their every move, and they can actually get away with making their fans literally sign their lives away to attend their shows.

It's almost like the band personifies everything that a band consisting of Novas with Mega-Social Attributes would be doing in the TU. Does anyone else see that, or is it just me?

Eight years ago in another universe, the Galatea space station exploded in space, and shortly thereafter, people with extraordinary powers manifested themselves. These individuals were later termed Homo sapiens novus, shortened to simply "nova" by the media.

It's also, incidentally, André Corbin's twenty-first birthday.

Discuss your favorite nova. Or something. Let's just get some discussion happening, mmkay? (:

Aberrant Question:

Hey, I have a big question about initiative. I don't know if it was made clear enough in the rulebook, but a lot of my players seem to think that initiative is declared in reverse, as in the player with the lowest initiative declares his action first, then the next lowest and so on. Is this the correct way to do it? It seems like the slower characters should be forced to react to the quicker characters and not vice versa.

And about the whole declaration thing, what should happen in this situation?

Character A declares he's going to attack Character B.
Character B knocks Character A across the world.
Would Character A be allowed to move and proceed with his or her attack, or would the action be lost? Or could he or she do something else?

I'm just curious about how other people deal with this. Thanks in advance for the input.

Last year, the UN granted Project Utopia's Science and Technology department authority to monitor, approve and regulate new technologies.

Today, Pope Benedict XVI issues Ad Dei Lucem, a bull declaring that novas have immortal souls.

Three years from today will be the default starting date of the Aberrant game line.

In celebration of all that, I've done up an Aberrant character sheet using the nWOD system. It's not a finished copy, of course, there's still some stuff I need to change. But it's fully usable.

Many Aberrant fans are aware of the game's shortcomings, both actual and perceived.

What changes would you make to the game, if you could make any changes you wanted?

I'm making myself an Aberrant conversion based on the new World of Darkness, and was looking for ideas and concepts. See what I wanted to change and what I didn't. So was looking to bounce ideas around. (:

Cripes man, it's been nearly impossible for me to find some NPC's stats. I mean, you'd think ONE of the source books would have the numbers for Caestus Pax or Divis Mal. It's not so much that I'm unimaginative, it's just that I'm REALLY lazy. If anyone has a sheet for them, official or home-made, I'd be really happy to see it.

The last thing I want is to put my players in a position where they can beat someone like Divis Mal or Geryon. That would SUCK.

Biological Absorption?

Okay, so I'm working a little to revise the Clutter concept.... a woman who can turn into a clutter of spiders...

I'm using the White-Wolf Bete splat-book for the Ananasi for inspiration here.... One of the key things I'd like to model here is that if the character loses some portion of her mass in clutter-form, she can call to the spiders (insects, etc.) in the area and absorb them into her the same way she'd absorb her own homunculi to reform her physical body...

The limitations I'd want on it are such that she can only absorb up to an equal amount of mass as that she had lost--that had died while she was in Clutter-form. In addition, each non-native (ie, non quantum-homunculi-spider) absorbed alters her just the tiniest bit. If she's taken substantial damage, she might not look quite the same, might not remember things, and will inevitably become more emotionally detached from her memories...

I don't see any quick and easy way to do this with the existing power-sets... But if you've any suggestions, I'd love to hear them...

X-Posted to aeoncontinuum.

Re: Concept Challenge #001: Clutter

Well, just to get things started.... here's my take on it. Done in the Storyteller version, and within the standard 30 Nova Point setup. Originally, I designed her as a 40 Nova-Point character, so I had to leash her in a little...

CodeName: Clutter
Birth Name: Michelle Van Effries
Aliases: Colony
Nature: Explorer
Allegiances: DeVries Intrusion Expert

Nova Form
In her Nova form, Michelle appears as a writhing bundle of indistinct insects, crawling all over each other--but in a humanoid shape. Her flesh is smooth to the touch, though. Her eyes glow with an unearthly, luminous white...

Aberrations:
When she uses her Homunculus, her pupils disappear and her eyes glow with an unearhtly white light. Where a chunk of flesh is removed from her body to fund the homunculi, her body also glows with that same unearhtly glow--as if her insides are spilling out in forms of energy. The glow does not, however, pass to the severed elements.

In addition, when in her Nova form, Michelle is extremely sensitive to touch, and too much physical contact can overwhelm her easily. As a result, she tends to wear the Eufiber bodysuit continually, as a buffer between her and the outside world.

Attributes
Strength 3, Dexterity (Coordinated) 4, Stamina 3
Perception 3, Intelligence 2, Wits 3
Appearance 3, Manipulation 1, Charisma 2

Mega Attributes:
Dexterity (Perfect Balance) 1, Stamina (Regeneration) 1, Wits (Multitasking) 1

Abilities:
STR: Brawl 2
DEX: Drive 1, Firearms 2, Martial Arts (Capoiera) 3, Stealth 3,
STA: Endurance (Long Distance Endurance) 4, Resistance 3
PER: Awareness (Keeping Watch) 4, Investigation 2,
INT: Computer 2, Intrusion (Security Procedures) 4, Linguistics (Spanish) 1,
WIT: Arts 1, Rapport 1,
APP: Intimidation 2, Style 1,
MAN: Seduction 2, Streetwise 3, Subterfuge 3,
CHA: Carousing 2, Etiquette 1

Backgrounds:
Attunement 2, Cipher 2, Contacts (Streets) 2, Dormancy 3, Eufiber 2,
Node 2, Resources 3, Followers 1

Quantum Power:
Homunculus 4 (Tainted)
Premonition 1

Advantages:
Willpower 5, Quantum 4, Taint 4, Quantum Pool 22

Derived:
Initiative: 8 (dormed) 10 (nova'd)
Soak (Bashing/Lethal): 3/1 (dormed) 4/2 (Nova'd)
Movement (Walk/Run/Sprint): 7/(16 dormed, 17 nova'd)/(32 dormed, 35 nova'd)
Aberration: Glowing Eyes and glowing homunculus-affiliated wounds

Merits & Flaws
-1 Overconfident
-2 Vengeful

History
Michelle Van Effries was an unknown actress and a small-time crook in Los Angeles who specialized in second-storey break and enters. To her, it seemed that winning the part of an up-and-coming Quantum research-scientist on the daytime soap, "Eruption Boulevard" was the big break of her career. Her minor celebrity status gained her a small following of day-time soap-opera fans and a burgeoning heroine addiction.

She erupted when Eruption Boulevard's plotting department decided to drop ehr character unceremoniously. The loss of a regular income sent Michelle over the edge into an eruption all her own. She withdrew into a needle and emerged a Nova.

Shortly after her eruption, she checked herself into a Rashoud Facility. Since then, she's returned to breaking-and-entering using her own unique methods of intrusion... It's hard to stop a wave of spiders from gaining access to your house if you don't want them...

What do you call a group of spiders?

A Clutter.

Michelle Van Effries, Carefully messing up your ordered world.

Welcome!

Hey, everyone. Welcome to the Aberrant Discussion Community. We'll discuss both ST and d20 here, so no one feels left out. Common-sense rules apply. I'd also like to steer away from d20-bashing. We're inclusive here, not exclusive. More Aberrant fans is good. Scaring away prospective fans is not.

I've cleverly named the community page "N!tre Nous," and have some links listed on it labelled "N! the news," "N!tertainment," and so forth. And each link is actually relevant.

I'm going to be messing with layout, probably, since I'd like something that at least looks like the N! webpages within Aberrant books, but at the same time I like custom Mood/Music text.

Anyhow, let's get some discussion going.
