Seamus in Evita

I've just got back fromm watching the touring production of Evita in Woking, which was absolutely fantastic - and was starring Seamus! Somehow this was a complete surprise to me...I knew that Seamus was going to be starring in a production of Evita but for some reason my brain didn't make the connection at all until we were arriving at the theatre and I saw a poster much like this one and thought 'hmm, I recognise that name. ...and that face... OHMYGODOHMYGODOHMYGOD',

He was really good anyway. The beginning seemed a little dodgy - maybe because he'd decided play the role as a cynic making fun of proceedings which I wasn't expecting, and I also felt like he was overacting a bit...but that could easily be because we were RIGHT AT THE FRONT YAY and he was trying to give gestures and expressions that would still be clearly visible from the back. As the show went on he really seemed to settle into things though, and he really commanded the stage. I could hardly stop watching him, although that may be because he's cute as well. Though surprisingly short (I assume that this is the case, and not that the rest of the male cast were unnaturally tall). I can't help thinking that is must be a pain to have to be on stage pretty much the entire time, every night, watching, reacting to and commenting on proceedings even at points when you're not meant to be the centre of attention but he definitely seemed really in character.

As for Louise Dearman playing Evita, she was absolutely amazing - beautiful beautiful voice. I almost cried during her death scene. If you're in England and have the chance to go see it I'd definitely recommend it anyway - my mum's seen the show three or four times now, including when Che was being played by David Essex, and she reckons this was the best one. And I'm on a musical high right now :)

I love Connie, I've got tickets for Cardiff due to knowing in advance that due to combinations of three days of no sleep and running around like a blue arsed fly (with added raging hangover all that weekend), I couldn't make the London one.
Anybody got any idea why it's being promoted with Craig as the main lead or why he was chosen for top billing? I'd have thought Lewis was more high-profile than him due to the West End understudy/holiday cover job for Lee. (also, for those who've bought it, was it any good? didn't buy due to not liking the song choice - I like the lads but I don't like them enough to buy any album sight unseen.)

Is it because he's now Bill's golden boy and he's decided to really back him and raise his profile? (in which case, we'll probably be hearing about him landing a high-profile west-end role - either helming a new show or coming in as replacement on one of the really big ongoing shows)

I'd also have thought Keith, who came second, would've been more of a first choice for an album given his voice and image as 'cute as a button and therefore grannies and teen appeal'

Right, round-up of the Josephs for christmas...

a bunch of 'em'll be on When Joseph met Maria or whatever it's called, which is broadcasting christmas eve or christmas day on BBC1, which is Barrowman, Van Outen and the Lord presenting xmas show-type thing of songs with added Lee and Connie stuff as well, appearances by some of the Marias and er... I think it was Craig, Daniel, Lewis, Keith, and Rob (Ben was in the middle of the Royal Variety when the show was filmed).

Lee's messing around with the dreamcoat. is Lewis still understudying?

Craig is also dreamcoating. Last I heard, Chris B and Keith're in the show as well. (any verifications on this? reviews?)

Daniel is playing with muppets in Avenue Q. Anyone seen him in it yet?

Ben's in Hairspray. Anyone seen it yet?

Rob's in panto. (tries to remember which one and where but I think it was Cinders) Anyone got tickets for that one?

Chris Crosby and Johndeep are doing Cinders in Windsor - Chris is Prince Charming, Johndeep is Dandini, and first review from The Stage says they did a great job.

soooo.... news on Antony? Seamus?

Oh, and in *further* news, JB leaked on Wossy's saturday radio show that there's going to be another 'open audtion on tv' spring next year, but was keeping utterly mouth closed on which musical it'd be for - all we know is it's *not* Gypsy and probably not West Side Story or Jesus Christ Superstar (or at least JB was making enough 'oh my god, the puns would be *terrible* - 'you really nailed/cruficied that song' comments that indicate it's probably not. But he did point out he might be lying through his teeth so you couldn't trust him.) If you want to hear it, it'll be up on Listen Again on radio 2's site til this saturday - JB is about 1:20 in for about 35 minutes.

So... would we be making a different comm for discussion or would we be just stay on this one or is it too early to start talking?

Just back from seeing Daniel playing Anthony in Sweeney Todd on the South Bank. It was a semi-dramatised concert production, with Bryn Terfel as Sweeney, and Philip Quast and Maria Friedman also in the cast. Those are some pretty big names, and I'm happy to say that Daniel didn't let the side down at all. Not that I had imagined he would, I always thought he was destined for better things. I'll look forward to seeing what the next best thing will be!

I don't usually hang around stage doors or bother with autographs, but I made an exception this time, and got a (rather sweaty) hug out of it. He was quite adorable, and I wanted to put him in my pocket (he's only little, hardly taller than I am) and take him home, but I suppose that would have been bad. They'd have had no Anthony for the evening performance, just for one thing.

I was down in London to go to the theatre this afternoon, and bumped into Lee Mead outside Pret a Manger in the Strand. And by 'bumped' I may or may not mean 'molested'. (Well, not quite. But I did find I sort-of had to give him a kiss on the cheek. Which I'm sure was more fun for me than it was for him, as I'm old enough to be his mum, my hair looked like the wrath of god, even if I hadn't had my sunglasses stuck on top of my head, and I suspect I had rocket leaf in my teeth. Because that's how you want to look when you met a celeb.) He was very sweet, and made all the right noises as I gushed about how I'd voted for him and how happy I was that he'd won, and that I was sure he'd be marvellous in the show. And he is just as pretty in person as on the TV.

The ADWD website has posted what the guys have been up to :)

Antony
"I have been doing lots of public appearances and school concerts; have also been away surfing and out enjoying the sunshine. Hopefully I will be off to Mountview in the summer - fingers crossed!"

Ben
"Being part of Any Dream Will Do has been such a great and precious experience. It's really given me a path to follow. The journey I've been on has been something I've never dreamt of experiencing in my life. I've worked with some of the best people in the business and it's been something that money can't buy.

"I'm just about to sign with an agent and I've got a lot of auditions going on. It's very busy at the moment. Hopefully I'll get to the West End as that's what I want to do. I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the people involved in the show, at the BBC and everyone at home who's been watching."

Chris B
"Well I've been kept very busy. Got myself a great agent and got lots of exciting things lined up. Hope to be on that West End stage before long. Oh and going to try to go on holiday if I can. Hehe!"

Chris C
"Since I left the show a few weeks ago, firstly I went away on a short break holiday, relaxed and chilled out. Then spent time following up all the leads I had. I'm now working on a project within the music industry, following a career in music. Hopefully will be recording an album in the near future"

Craig
"I have had a nice time back in Scotland with my friends and family. I have some offers of work in the pipeline including a tour and a recording deal. Watch this space! Love Craig x"

Daniel
"Since leaving the show I've been busy meeting agents and casting directors etc. I've signed with a fantastic agent and have been offered a new musical which opens in the West End later this year. There are a few other things in the pipeline including a panto in Guildford."

Johndeep
"Since leaving there are talks of appearing in "Silversteet" for BBC Radio, I have been involved in various concerts and charity gigs including the concert at Great Braxted for Missing Madeleine with the other Josephs. I will also be leading a musical cabaret called "Never Mind The Broadway" which tours London soon. There are other things in the pipeline so watch this space!"

Rob
"Since I left the competition I have taken a role in a professional panto; I'm still looking for the right agent. I'm doing lots of charity gigs involving lots of children, which is really nice."

Seamus
"My band, Mosquito, and I are releasing an EP on iTunes on Monday 11th June and have gigs coming up. I am also speaking with agents and managers about potential roles in TV, film and musicals.

"Significantly though, I think it is important to tell everyone how hard all of us have been working since being on the show: being on TV may open doors, but you quickly learn that it takes talent, courage and passion to walk through them! Huge thank you to my family and my girlfriend, to everyone on the show, all the crew, the panellists and the coaches; but especially to the people at home for all their overwhelming messages of support. Thank you, truly."

I can't let this comm die! I'm still in denial about the show being over... And I pick the best times to de-lurk. lol.

Last night this came to me (in a dream...). I was listening to all the versions of "Close Every Door" and even though the singer *may* have been ... well, not very good at the song they did during the show, they all are REALLY good at CED. Maybe because I'm tone deaf, but I don't think there's a single "bad" version of it. (Except Seamus... Don't change the words!) Antony's "Patience" was pretty painful, but I liked him doing CED. And Rob, I was like "plz, Rob go, Rob bad" and then he did CED and I was all "noooo! come back! all is forgiven!". But yeah...

Oh and I was wondering how someone would go about <strike>stalking them</strike> sending fanmail now that the show is over. Presumably you could send it to the Beeb, but what do we do now there is no ADWD... thanks to anyone who knows ^_^
