Atra Viscus, an AU anime/videogame roleplay.

The world is plagued with everlasting night because of the constant darkness that shrouds the people's hearts.

The vampires feed on unsuspecting humans as means for survival, but constantly search, spurred by strange rumors, for a way to become humans themselves. The hunters try very hard to get rid of the vampires based on orders from their leader... orders which are not to be questioned.

The character you apply for is required to be in one of four sects in Atra Viscus: Vampires, Half Vampires, Hunters and Humans. A constant battle is going on between the vampires and hunters and it is up to you to decide how your character will affect this battle.

Which path will you choose? ...Will it even be the right one?

Life's been busy over the past year or so, but I'm glad to see that this place is still thriving. I want to thank members of the community that are active in it and are looking out for each other's well-being. With that being said,

I had been so sure. . .so sure that you were the one, that you were incapable of betrayal. Hell, I'd always thought if it was gonna happen it'd be the other way around. Walking in tonight, though. . .seeing you stretched out with my own mother moaning under your bulky frame, I felt like I was just gonna shatter there. I wasn't even gonna ask why, I know better than ta ask why, because the answer I get would prob'ly be one I wouldn't like anyway, so what good would it do? Not a damn bit, really.

So as I pack up the things that I've accumulated in the 10 years we've been together, I hear you ask me why, why I can't give you a chance, just not understanding, I guess. What is there really to understand though, aibou? You broke the heart of a man that has always been thought not to have one, and only you knew different. Only you knew the heart of Reno of the Turks, and I thought you considered it a priviledge. Guess I was wrong, ne? Not that it should matter, I seem to be wrong a lot nowadays. I hear the little girl we'd adopted after the city had broken into chaos when the Remnants came asking me why we were leaving and where we were going, and I'm not even sure what to tell her.

I finally told her Papa Rude did something bad and that Papa Reno needed to get away for a while and think things out and then maybe we could talk things out after, but I'm not sure anymore. I love you, aibou, never ever doubt my love for you, but I can't live with someone I can't trust. And I can't trust you right now. I hate to say that, when I trusted you with my life as well as my heart for so long, but it's true. I can't trust you now. It hurts to know that, but what can I do? Not a Gods be damned thing, not now.

And as I drive away with Rhianna belted into the back seat, like YOU always taught me a young kid should be, I look back, and the look I see in your eyes almost weakens me to the point that I turn around and go back and forgive you for all of it. But if I did that I would be weak, and Reno of the Turks is anything but weak. So instead I keep driving until you disappear from sight, my heart breaking a little more with every passing minute. Maybe I was wrong, maybe I am weak, or maybe being strong is just stupid when it comes to this. Not that it matters now.

Water lapping up against the sides of creaking wood resounds from all sides, and an itchy burlap blanket scratches what skin is not covered in dirty and ripped clothes. When your eyes are opened, all you will see is darkness - and then from above, there is light.

It is day above the deck of the ship you are apparently on, you will find, if you choose to stand and walk up the rickety steps. You move along with a hundred other individuals that had been down there with you, all of them looking as disheveled as you do. If you do not budge, rest assured that one of the guards standing off to the side - those tall men in elegant uniforms reminiscent of 18th century naval officers armed with bayonets - will be more than happy to force you above.

And when you do come, the salty sea air fills your nose, strong enough to sting. The air is heavy, damp and hot. Gulls caw above, and to the east, there is an endless expanse of water, the occasional island in the distance, but to the west... to the west, there seems to be a grandiose and elaborate coastal city. With a colorful melange of people bustling to and fro across the docks and on the mainland, elegant Victorian architecture, wrought iron fences and rickety shacks side by side, all of it dappled and framed with various tropical flora of impressive beauty. It's like a painting.

It is the New World. At least, that's what you overhear, if there's a language you manage to pick out, from the bustling crowds as you step off the ship, that you can recognize.

But what are you here for? Where's your world? The Child-Queen Immaculada will tell you it is but the will of God that brought you here, but whether that is true or not is for you to discover.

Two houses, both with very different ideas of dignity: Monacello and Vescovo.

When: the future. Where: in a new-world Italy, a city known as Reggio Calabria. The setting is two parts steampunk, one part dystopia.

The streets are a constant battlefield, ruled by two major families, now bitter enemies in the struggle for territory. The new don of the Monacello family has all but declared open war upon the old don of the even older Vescovo family. It is a struggle for power, for territory, for pride, in which all have become pawns, and only a handful have been able to distinguish themselves as important players. Life is less like a game of chess, however, and more like a game of cards. The deck has been shuffled and the hands have been dealt. Whose side will you be on?

In an instant, lifelong enemies can become allies, and even family will betray you. Chances are, they already have. Those who are neutral—who have chosen not to affiliate themselves with either family—are not necessarily civilians. They can be opportunists, mercenaries, guns for hire; or perhaps they are innocents, caught up in the crossfire of something far bigger than individual needs and desires. Drug lords, prostitutes, pimps and assassins: all stand to profit from the chaos that would follow outright war.

But outright war is not yet upon Reggio Calabria. Slowly but surely, the lines are being drawn. Those who are neutral, those who are traitors, those who are bound by time-honored loyalty, will all find themselves a part of the coming storm.
