FF7 Early File - Cloud's True Nature (3/3)
Gaw, sorry it took so long to get to this. School has been crazy XD;

And here we go - First Post and Second Post to catch everyone up with what's going on.

This is the last section of this story where, after Tifa's brillant rescue of Cloud from an afterlife with a spookily nice Hojo, the party discusses and explains what the hell was going on earlier. This is realitively close to the finished game but there are still a few interesting changes.



ミディールでパーティーに復帰後
After the Party returns to Mideel

ティファ「なぜ、村に帰ってきたよきに私にさまっていたの」
Tifa: Why did we end up back at the village after I woke up?

クラウド「自分が情けなかった。
ソルジャーになると言って約束して出ていったのに、俺はだの一般兵。
故郷の人にそんなみじめな姿は見せたくなった」
Cloud: I acted so shamefully.
I said that I had kept my promise to go join SOLDIER, but really I was a normal trooper.
I didn't want everyone back home to see me in such a miserable condition.

ティファ「そんなことはないわ。
ソルジャーになれなくとも一生懸命やったならば」
Tifa: That's not the issue here.
I'm sure you gave it your all to try and get into SOLDIER.

クラウド「でも、そんな自分がイヤだったんだ。
そして、それを隠そうとしている自分もよけい情けなった。
俺の存在はセフィロスが消してのではない。
幼なじに自分の姿を隠しているときから、せに俺の存在などなったのかもしれない。
セフィロスはただそれに付け人ってきただけだったんだ……」
Cloud: But still, it was wrong of me.
And, hiding everything about myself really was shameful.
But Sephiroth couldn't erase my true self.
However having a childhood friend lie to be about my true self, that might be why I lost it.
Sephiroth could only do what he did because he had an assistant......

(Oh! PWNED! Cloud finally tells Tifa that it was partly her fault for not facing up to him. I always thought that she was partially to blame.... >>;;; Too bad that her response was cut off... I bet it would have been a massive guilt trip.

And yay for Cloud using "ore"! That's back to your real self.)

ユフィ「さっき、クラウドはセフィロスに精神を乗っ取られた、と言ったわね。
そんなオカルトの世界が本当にあるの？」
Yuffie: So some time ago, Sephiroth captured Cloud's heart, like we said.
Does that mean there really are occult things in the world?

ヴィンセント「思い出したよ……クラウド……その名前。
キミはジェノバ覚醒セフィロス・プロジェクトの実験台……」
Vincent: Remember......Cloud......that name.
You are an experiment in the Jenova Awakening Sephiroth Project......

(Now there is something interesting. In Japan, the Niblehiem Incident is refered to as "Sephiroth's Awakening" so this is probably where the term originated.)

クラウド「そうさ……。俺はソルジャーを夢見てミッドガルのきた。
そして宝条の実験の洗礼を受けた……。
それがジェノバ覚醒セフィロス・プロジェクト」
Cloud: That's right....... I left for Midgar with the dream of being in SOLDIER.
And I recieved my baptism as one of Hojo's experiments.
That was the Jenova Awakening Sephiroth Project.

ヴィンセント「セフィロス・プロジェクト……それは僕が昔調査した事件」
Vincet: The Sephiroth Project......That was the case I was formerly investigating.

(In the original version, Vincent was a paranormal investigator who went undercover to investigate Hojo's work which is what he's refereing to.

And he's using "boku!" How cute is that. ^o^ (Boku is a rather cute male pronoun, usually used by younger guys.))

クラウド「ソルジャーとは魔晄のエネルギー注入されるだけではないんだ。
ジェノバの遺伝子をも合成される」
Cloud: Someone in SOLDIER isn't simply exposed to Mako energy.
They are also combined with Jenova's cells.

ヴィンセント「ソルジャーなみな、なんらかの形でジェノバのエネルギーを注入されるんだ。
その完全な成功例がセフィロスなんだ。
でも我々は猛反対した。人の生命をもてあそぶことに……
そのためセフィロス計画は表向き中止となったが、神羅は秘密裏に実験をつづけていた。
それは成人した人間にジェノバ遺伝子を組みこむというものだった」
Vincent: All members of SOLDIER, take in some of of her characteristics when injected with Jenova's energy.
The perfect example of this is Sephiroth.
But we savagely faught against her. Even though our lives were treated like playthings.....
For some reason even though it seemed like the plan with Sephiroth had been stopped, Shinra was continuing to experiment in secret.
And as you said, that was why they were combining Jenova cells with adult humans.

クラウド「それがソルジャー。俺もそうだった。
だが、セフィロスとちがい、すでに人間の成人の身体になっていたため、
セフィロスほど完全なジェノバ生命体はできなかったんだ。
どうしても人間の精神が打ち勝ってしもうんだな。
だから俺の心のなかにセフィロスと同じ心が潜んでいたのだか、
クラウドの人格によって押さえつけられていたんだ。
でも、コンプレックスがいまのクラウドの人格を覆い隠した。
そこで昔の記憶……セフィロスが俺の意識を支配し出したんだ」
Cloud: That is SOLDIER. And me too.
But Sephiroth is different, he was already experimented on before he grew up,
but not to the extent that he could perfectly meld existences with Jenova.
Nevertheless, what was in my heart was the same as what lurked in Sephiroth's heart,
and thus he was able to repress the personality of Cloud.
But, it was also a complex that was masking the Cloud persona.
However, with the old memories......Sephiroth was able to control my consciousness.

ヴィンセント「自分の意志に弱さを感じた人間は徐々に心の内のセフィロスが目覚める
……すれがあの計画の副作用だったんだ」
Vincent: My will has felt weaker as though the humanity in my heart has gradually diminished since Sephiroth awoke
......this is probably a secondary effect of his plan.

※当初はリユニオンの設定はなく、「クラウドはセフィロスの分身」という話だった。
クレーター内部に眠るのも、星の兵器であるウェポンではなく、
セフィロスが生み出した邪悪なモンスターになっている。　　　　

※When we first created the Reunion concept we said the story would be "Cloud is Sephiroth's other self."
While he was asleep in the Crater, he would use the planet's power to create WEAPON,
and Sephiroth would bring forth these sinister monsters.

(The term "other self" is a bit hard to translate. x_X; It can also mean his "offshoot" or even his "child" O_O! Now there is a freaky thought, huh? Of course, Sephiroth isn't old enough to possibly be Cloud's father..... in the finished version. *cackles like a dork*)


Anyway, next up is the bonus Rufus scene, which I'm looking forward to 'cause it's fun to translate Ruffie. XD
