Hello, my name is Courtney. I've only seen the movie so far and I thought that it was pretty fantastic. I'm excited about reading the graphic novel because my friend who's into Vertigo said that it was better. I live on the outskirts of Tampa, Florida.

Hello, and welcome. I can understand why you have to read the novel again. I'm still in the process of reading it, and it's going very slowly because I'm trying to make sure I understand everything about it.

Book or Movie:
I am a staunch advocate of reading the book any movie is based on, this stems mainly from my involvement in the Lord of the Rings fandom and Arwen and Legolas Fangirls and their oppression of the more literate masses. I did see the movie first, mainly because I know Hugo Weaving from his work in Rings and my boyfriend knew portman from his respective love, Star Wars. It also looked like a good movie. And I loved it. I love movies that make you think, and have themes and well, things that go BOOM.

So of course I went and bought the graphic novel and read it. I'm currently trying to re-read it so as to facilitate better discussions. And I'm also going to read the movie novela so to understand that better.

Do you prefer the movie or the graphic novel and why?: I really enjoyed the depth of the graphic novel. It was able to explore more than the movie could since it runs just over two hours. But I enjoy the movie as well. I think that the updates to the movie, (ie - not setting it in the nineties), made it feel more immediate and personable than the graphic novel did. I've also really enjoyed the work of the Wachowski's previous to this, and I've been a fan of Natalie Portman for quite some time. So I can honestly say that I like both. It's hard for me to really pick one or the other and claim superiority.

Do you prefer the movie or the graphic novel and why? Like so many others, I've only been able to see the movie, though I am incredibly interested in reading the graphic novels. It's a pet peeve of mine to have seen a movie based off of anything else, and not to have seen/read the original. So, hunting for the Graphic Novel is on the top of my 'to-do' list!

Do you prefer the movie or the graphic novel and why?:

I love the movie, I have seen it once and have plans to see it again. I just knew I would love it, even if the critics hated it. Hugo Weaving was wonderful, I think I fell in love with his voice a little. That man needs to do Shakespeare.

I think the movie had a message for everyone, a lot of movies have been lacking of late. I have the movie novella, and have been trying to read it ever since the movie, but my daughters wont let me keep it long enough to read it, as we fight for possession of it lol

Do you prefer the movie or the graphic novel and why?: I only have opinions about the movie now since I haven't read the GN yet. I am studying for my MCAT and working, so that's why. It will be read as soon as April 22nd passes. So I can't participate in any critical comparative discussions just yet; movie discussions, though, are completely fair (and fascinating) game.

Do you prefer the movie or the graphic novel and why?: It's a toss up really. I am a comic girl at heart, which is why I went to see the movie, but the movie made me want to read the novel.

It was the first time an action movie made me cry, and I dare anyone not to sniffle when V passes away.

Hiya everyone! The name is Rebecca but most just call me Becca! I am 18 years old I will be turning 19 in June yay! Ummm...I recently saw the movie so I had no idea that there was even a graphic novel that came before the movie! So I really want to read the novel now...I'll have to go buy it at the bookstore near where I live now. But...I guess for now, I'll say I really liked the movie. I live in Virginia--nothing exciting ever happens there. I guess I can say why I really liked the movie on here too? Can I? I don't know if I can...but ok I really liked the movie, because I love the type of movies that make you think and question the world in you live in. The Cinematography was really cool! And even though it was futuristic they didn't take the whole 'future' thing too far out of proportion like with something out of the Jetsons. lol! So...wow I think I'm the youngest on here that's...wow! hahaha
i'm out...

Do you prefer the movie or the graphic novel and why? I'm currently reading the graphic novel, and, while it's a bit early to say, so far I like the movie better. Firstly, Natalie Portman, even as Queen Amidala, could kick Evey from the book's butt. She's just that badass. Also, I feel as though the movie somehow had more depth, more direction, more energy- It seems better thought through (the author even says in the intro to the comic that the begining of it reeks of inexperience).

I really love both the movie and the book, though... I feel like the movie just improved on near perfection. I think that this film could become so popular in the US is a sign that this country is finally starting to wake up from the slumber it's been in since September 11th- Can you imagine a film where someone bombs a government building being a hit back in those dark days?

There were times when I felt like the film was talking to everyone, everywhere who feels like there is something very, very wrong with their country- Watching it somehow felt like a revolutionary act (yeah, cheesy, I know). It instantly became one of my favorite movies, one that I know I will watch over and over again.

I was very happy to find this community... It's great to find others who loved this film, and aren't silly 14 year old fangirls. Nice to see so many New Englanders represented, too :-)

It's a tough call between the comic and the movie. I'm leaning toward the movie, simply because it's more appealing, emotionally (through use of visuals and music). However, the plot of the graphic novel was probably more cogent, if a little innoncent and dated (surviving beyond a nuclear holocaust, anyone?). The relationship between (a younger) Evey and V, the political machinations of V, the absolute chaos of the opening stages of anarchy rather than a unified uprising, all of these aspects of the graphic novel are certainly more realistic than the movie.

That being said, I think the movie did nearly as good a job as it could have, and the emotional side of me likes the warm fuzzies the movie induces. Oh, this really belongs in a separate entry - I'll just have to go with the movie for now. :)

Movie or Graphic Novel: At the moment, I'm leaning toward the movie. Or quite possibly the novelization. I haven't finished the graphic novel yet, so I'm withholding judgement... It's hard to choose because I think each depiction has something different to offer. But I really think the story works best in film. Certainly there are aspects of the story that are better in the graphic novel or even in the novelization, but overall I think the film works best. If for no other reason than the fact that you actually get to hear the "1812 Overture" as those bombs are going off. You can't beat film for a moment like that...

Do you prefer the movie or the graphic novel and why?: At this moment in time, the movie. I've read the graphic novel once through so far and didn't understand it very well (it's essentially the first comic book I've ever read, so I'll need to read it a few more times to really understand the nuances of the plot). Both are very good, I just understood the movie more... and I've seen it a good number of times as well (probably 4 or 5 by now).
Favorite Character: Definitely V. Partly fangirl-ish reasons behind it, but I just love the intellect and basically everything about him.

So greetings!

Do you prefer the movie or the graphic novel and why?: The book. I read it first four years ago and in the times I've read it since I've discovered more and more levels of complexity and meaning in the major and minor characters, the art and the ideas written in the pages. While I haven't seen the movie the more I hear about it and the changes that have been made, the more disapointed I get. Invented romances, the flattening of personalities and plots and characters to cut it into a shiny screen is just... depressing. And as an artist and a writer, I feel very strongly about the whole issue of the rights of a creator to be able to have control of their own work.

The basics:
Erin, almost 20.
Melbourne, Australia.

I haven't yet read the graphic novel (ordered it from the local bookstore though), but I have seen the movie, and whilst I'm sure this claim will be disputed, feel compelled to suggest that V for Vendetta is the 1984 of our generation. The call to arms to protect ourselves from authority taking away our freedom.

I also like that it's one of the most intelligent films to come out of Hollywood for what I think has been a while. We weren't treated like infantile morons, no one said "Huh, speak English?!" when V used a string of words consisting of more than three syllables. We didn't need to follow that romantic convention of revealing the mask.

I came out of the movie, and it took me a moment to catch my breath and realise the world hadn't changed.

Do you prefer the movie or the graphic novel and why?: I prefer the graphic novel far more. I feel it more in depth and it made me fall in love with V as a person and a character far more then the movie. The graphic novel, for me, gave the chracters much more life than actors. Plus, I feel the movie, or any Alan Moore movie, never does his graphic novels justice.

Do you prefer the movie or the graphic novel and why?:
I bought the graphic novel the exact same night I saw the movie. I saw the movie for the first time last week. Thus far, I have seen the movie four times in two weeks.

I was just absolutely blown away by the movie. I love 1984, Animal Farm, and Brave New World. I felt as though this movie encompassed all three books...and then threw in some allusions of Shakespeare, Faust, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Phantom of the Opera, and The Count of Monte Cristo.

I couldn't help but absolutely adore this movie, considering I am a HUGE fan of the references and allusions. I loved the symbolism. Etc etc etc. I can honestly say I have never been so moved by a movie before. It pretty much encompasses everything I am interested in.

On another note....Considering all of the wonderful feedback I have heard about the graphic novel, I look forward to recieving my novel from ebay soon. Very very much.

I'm stoked to be here.

Do you prefer the movie or graphic novel and why?

I prefer the graphic novel because it is more in-depth than the movie. In fact, the movie and the novel are completely different, the first espousing governmental change while the other proffers anarchy as an alternative to government. While the movie is more up-to-date, I feel that the issue of class struggle, central to change in any society, is more important than the issues presented in the movie. There is an old saying, "Any country is three square meals away from revolution." I do not feel that an action such as the one at the end of the movie, however beautiful it may be, would not happen otherwise. People who have little are afraid to lose it; people who have nothing will do anything to attain what they need.

The issues presented by the movie are, however, undeniably provocative and important. We see our own freedoms being trimmed and overridden by our elected officials; we see the fears of the masses being manipulated to further the purposes of a priveleged few.

Furthermore, in the comic book, Moore presents ideas as characters interacting with each other. There is much as much symbolism as allusion.

That said, I did enjoy the movie; it was perhaps the best comic book adaptation ever made.
